  1. Hopefully it doesn’t become a trend. The expansion to 4:30 a decade ago is already ridiculous enough.

  4. I learned that the CSD’s have been shown the new package at a recent meeting. Apparently some of them tried to take pictures and they were made to delete them. Still no estimated launch date.

  5. I was watching WABC recently and the one thing that detracted me were how in your face they were, the constant use of transitions and animations.

  6. Or none of the explanations or comparisons bandied about here has any basis in reality. You guys are treating apples and avocados as a fair comparison thus letting some idiot in Spanish language marketing pull a fast one on you... this topic repeatedly gets serious attention around here as if it’s really an oh wow truth for god knows what reason... One audience (English only) doesn’t have a choice and another does (bi-lingual) and still another can only speak Spanish... regardless of language is a terrible statistic to bandy about and it makes the Spanish language stations look better than they are. The English language stations are at a significant disadvantage in this game. Many of the bi-lingual have English as a second language... if I started off with Spanish and learned broken English and had a choice I would go with what I knew the best and could completely comprehend... so many of these folks are joining the bandwagon out of necessity. What good does this stat do for someone who only speaks English? I could watch Telemundo I guess... a majority are evidently... but I’d be watching people appear to me to be uncontrollably babbling... what good is a measurement of success that has a limited reach? It’s similar to what WABC does with “most watched in America”... by households sure but in the market with the most households... not a hard feat for whoever is number one. However by share it could be a station in Fargo that could claim it or in Fairbanks... one could make a compelling argument that share is a more important number... Three kinds of lies...

  8. I think the combination pool / ice rink is a nice added touch to the set. Those Disney folks sure know forward thinking set design. Beats the hell out of that CBS News Roomba.

  9. Looks like they did a Mid-Cycle upgrade. Kinda like what they did when they were in the previous studio when they went from the Cockpit Styled Backdrop from the 90s to the Duratrans backdrop in the late 2000s up until when they moved to their current studio. The studio current studio is really nice, to me nothing is wrong with it and these upgrades add new life to whats already really nice. This is hands down their best studio they've ever had, and as with WABC long standing tradition, if it is not broken, no need to fix it terribly lol. The only thing that WABC has always struggled with is their graphics in my opinion.

  10. Nope. They’re moving downtown within the next 4 years or so. That’s when a new studio and set will happen.

  11. Almost eight years (9/24/11). They're moving to a fresh new (yet-to-be constructed) building in a few years. Might as well keep what they got until then.

  12. The weekend anchors are back downstairs for the 11. And it looks like they've replaced the video wall behind them (no longer see the lines).

  13. It might not be things the viewer ever sees. “Technical upgrades” could include replacing or updating cameras, robotics, lighting grid or lighting panel, etc.. Any of those can be time consuming to remove, install and test. Setting aside a weekend to do it is not unusual, since it displaces a minimum number of shows and people.
