  1. A year ago, I posted about ABC 33/40's 24th anniversary. September 1st marks their 25th Anniversary serving as Birmingham's ABC affiliate. James Spann posted about it on his Facebook page, and the main difference between this year's post and last years, is that he threw in some good words for Sinclair (in addition to the prior owners, Allbritton) for allowing him to serve Central Alabama with severe weather coverage whenever warranted.

  2. Also …. CBS now has a Black woman, a Greek man and Black man who was a former NFL athlete all anchoring a morning show in Times Square. Sound familiar?

  3. I also spot three of my O&O’s meteorologists; Dan Henry, Evan Andrews, and Ali Turiano, as well. I wonder how the local aspect of Fox Weather is going to work. Are they gonna go by zip code?

  4. That would be OVERKILL for Natalie. This was only for storm coverage.

  5. Man, those late 90s Ackerley Group graphics were so good! Here’s some from WIXT (now WSYR) in 2001. And here’s the music that went with this package! It’s a Frank Gari production, I think. As a bonus, here’s the station in 2006:

  6. Too bad Raycom let WUAB's former UHF home on 28 go in the spectrum auction (which they probably got a handsome return on). So now that leaves Gray with the always problematic channel 10 allotment that both WOIO and WUAB share, and their gaggle of low power repeaters, including the recently acquired WOHZ in Mansfield and the former Franken-FM WLFM in Cleveland.... Is there any hope of WOIO/WUAB moving off of 10 onto a full powered UHF facility in the area? Even on one of their translator stations?

  7. Janice Broach retired last night after 30+ years with WMC in Memphis. Given how sudden the announcement was and the fact that she wasn't at all involved in the story (they kept saying she had already "signed off for the final time"), I do hope this was her decision. Either way, the station put together a nice retrospective: https://www.actionnews5.com/2021/09/02/janice-broach-signs-off-action-news-5-after-more-than-3-decades-telling-your-stories/

  8. Didn’t they do that in early 80s? What they should do is rename CBS morning news to cbs early morning news and changing cab this morning to cbs morning news. That why it’s closer to their other broadcasts and still ties into Saturday and Sunday mornings

  9. And an unexpected sighting with one of the sports reports filed by a young Brad Sham (better known as the longtime radio voice of the Dallas Cowboys)

  10. I didn't ask that, but I totally agree.

  11. During bad weather they have done this before including a couple of weeks ago (including using Gilma). No way would Natalie working 4,5,6,7 and 11 become permanent.

  13. So they're moving Jane into the new studio as well? I get the "marrying" concept they're doing, but I'm still a fan of "If it ain't broken..."

  14. I hope WVUE sticks with their Raycom package.
