  1. It looks like Rob Nelson has found a new home pretty quickly, and for the second time in about a year he'll be one of the launch faces of a new news endeavor- he'll be anchoring weekdays on the new OTA version of Scripps' Newsy network. Here's a TVNewsCheck article, and one from TVNewser. Good for him. I wanted NewsNation to work so badly, but it feels like they've done so little to harness the power of their vast local station presence. Instead they devote an entire hour... to Leland Vittert? Here's hoping Scripps takes note of how how badly Nexstar bungled this. I'm looking forward to the new Newsy.

  2. Nexstar is waiting for syndication rights on the shows and movies to run out, which could be a while. That's why its taking so long for shows like In The Heat of the Night to stop airing.

  3. Many people often associate the theme from KIRO's News Out of the Box era as a composition by Gerard Schwarz. It is not. Although the Seattle Symphony recorded the theme package under Schwarz as conductor, the themes were composed by Mark Haffner, as shown in this newspaper report from the Morning News Tribune: Haffner would later compose the more traditional News Now package, used during the NewsChannel 7 era, and which had the same sonic logo as the News Out of the Box package.

  8. I saw the breaking variant of their L3s this morning at a glance and thought for some reason someone at work had changed the TV to CNN. Imitation is the best form of flattery (though I do prefer the CBS take). Still, you'd think someone from CBS would look at it in ideation in say "let's try to not look exactly like CNN."

  10. Fair enough. My family has watched GMA for as long as I can remember and the quality today is nothing to write home about despite having one of the strongest anchors (George!) at the helm. However I have to say comparing anything with Gayle King to the great days of Jane and Bryant is an insult! /s

  11. Are you all watching the same show that I am? The reporting is in depth and layered and smart. They have great chemistry and the set is stunning.

  12. After they've spent years re-integrating Viacom back into the fold, I don't see that happening.

  15. Yep! Exactly. CBS has lost control. I honestly think it's time for National Amusements to sell. It's a mess.
