  1. Not a fan of the graphics. The sound effect for the “forecast first” is annoying, the clutter underneath the lower thirds is unnecessary, and a lot of elements give me $34 VideoHive vibes. I’m mostly fine with the other Nexstar packages, but this one just isn’t great IMO.

  2. Looks decent…for 2010. Maybe it’s just me, but imho both the graphics and music are a downgrade from what they replaced. They both look/sound well past their expiration date, and they just debuted. If only Tribune’s creative services team was kept…

  3. I agree, I feel like the space underneath the L3 might be for a ticker? Open is definitely a downgrade, this almost looks like an in-house open like WJET.

  6. r I remember that logo and watched WRIC TV8 News in the mid90s while visiting Richmond. However down the road Young seem to do some investing. It got to a point WRIC & WTVR were tied in some newscast and WRIC beat WTVR for #2. That logo made it for two decades and I don't know how it survived without changes, but Young Broadcasting, wasn't like many groups.

  7. This looks FANTASTIC!!! I hope the complete package is just as sharp...

  8. Funny you should say that. The outgoing graphics were created by Ruth Dial, former partner/cofounder of Giant Octupus' and Nexstar's graphics creator (at LinearDrift) Rey Rodriguez. These new graphics have been 3 years in the making, created by Vivid Zero, a subsidiary of the clueless media consultants SmithGeiger who have no business owning a graphic design firm. Principle: Michael Vamosy (formerly of Stun Creative)

  9. Adam Verdugo has been named the new executive producer of the CBS Evening News. He replaces the retiring interim EP Al Ortiz.

  10. Not too impressed. On both the weather graphics and on the open, the text seems to just get lost into the background. This is what happens when you use plain white text with no outline / no drop shadow on a busy background.

  11. Bill likely has a very close exposure and needs to be separated if he’s not able to wear a mask. That’s a WABC policy.

  15. Not only that, they have brand new music: Aerial by Stephen Arnold Music (yeah, the theme that most of TVNT hates, lol...).

  16. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/good-morning-america-tv-ratings-news-today-1235283664/ GMA winning in the 25-54 demo, attributed in part to getting anchors out of the studio and to locations of major stories.

  17. I’ll go as far as to say that the outgoing package looks better than some of the newer graphics packages being churned out by Gray and Nexstar. That said, the new Wx graphics look fantastic. If they are a harbinger for a group-wide package, that will be a welcome development, especially for WABC and other stations with aging/less than stellar graphics.

  18. Agreed. This station has always had one of the best graphics in this market, if not, the country, next to Hearst. The outgoing graphics were 7+ years old and they aged well.

  23. Shawn Hoder didn't do well in Tampa with WTSP being TEGNA's experimental station. New GM Chris Cotugno has already stumbled with saying that Pittsburgh isn't a sports town. I'm very worried about Pittsburgh's long time ratings leader due to these two new hires. According to many people I know at the station. Moral has plummeted since Kathy Hostetter became the GM of WJZ in Baltimore. This is not good for KDKA.

  24. I totally doubt it. Considering he worked closely with her many times during his decade+ with CBS (as said in the linked article), my guess is she more than probably won't and he'll last longer than that.

  25. How will Norah mess this EP up? Inquiring minds want to know. I say he lasts 6 months.
