  1. I bet this is less about a rigid programming schedule for their staff and more to do with cable operators agreements. As news programming has grown, the "general entertainment" programming from WGN America's original format has shrunk. Most old school contracts have a minimum number of hours that must be dedicated to the channel's stated programming purpose. So while I think NewsNation probably would have liked to cover it - and certainly had the resources to given the availability of a clean feed - I bet they couldn't afford to lose 3+ hours of their entertainment schedule. Ultimately this is one of the biggest problems for this channel. The need to still fulfill old carriage agreements while trying to take on a new mission. At some point they need to go all in if they are going to try to be a full-service news network.

  2. I know, I'm just shocked that Window to the World put all this work to keeping the license active, and then just turned it back in without any rhyme or reason? I think we'll find out more in the next few months, as there's always something odd going on with WTTW. And I could've seen VCY America pay plenty for the license to extend their programming into Chicago.

  3. The contract was originally awarded to Stun in 2019 (Yes, folks, sometimes graphics do take three years to develop).

  4. they’re not even back to having everyone in the actual newsroom fully in person. There are still people working remotely, some not even in the NYC area and some reporters who haven’t been inside the station more than two or three times since the March 2020 lockdown.

  6. Wow... their better option would be 8pm ET. Run their live programming through the day and then at 8pm is the rebroadcast of Pattrn then they can run their deep bench of reruns of shows. This also gives them an option if Pattrn didn't air that day due to severe weather they can run a show if severe weather isn't happening at 8pm or continue with live coverage. I actually like Pattrn. It's a really neat show and I like where they're going with it. You'll still get updates on weather across the country. The climate stories they are doing are quite interesting and informative.

  7. New Petition. RNN has filed to have Norwell, MA's WWDP to vacate VHF 10 and move to UHF 36. I would've rather see WGBH (RF 5) or WSBE (RF 2) move to this allotment than a station that only shows wasteful infomercials and shopping channels.

  8. Effective today, TWC has permanently moved the rerun of Pattrn from 1pm ET to 4pm ET. Are they STUPID? The 4pm ET hour is typically when severe weather starts to explode on any given day, and now they're going to remove most live weather coverage from that hour. Unreal.

  9. "Oh sorry, the news isn't happening during our regular news programming schedule, so we're not covering it." lol

  10. Since the current PBS begathon is running, it puts things in a different perspective. You left significant money on the table and you turn around and beg money from me? Weigel might have wanted it for their LPTV.

  11. The Tony’s are for stage plays which is a vital part of NYC’s entertainment industry and economy. That might be why WCBS has their A team tonight even if other CBS stations don’t.

  13. First weekend with the new look, and Phil Schwarz hasn't screwed up the logos...yet. I've gotten to know him, over the years, and I enjoy his work, but the logo and font distortion always puzzled me. He had to know that it wasn't right.

  14. He's done this on and off during the pandemic. It's a nice touch, especially on Fridays, and he has a beautiful backyard from which to do it. I do wonder what the contingency plan is if there are signal or connectivity issues. Not sure if there is another meteorologist in the newsroom on those days, or if they would have Lee call in via phone and talk over the maps, or if they'd just put up the 7 day forecast and have the anchors read it.

  16. (Feel free to move if this isn’t the right thread) Live PD is coming back, this time as “On Patrol Live” on Hubbard’s Reelz. Dan Abrams will return to host, but it looks like he’ll still be with NN. I wonder why Nexstar wouldn’t bite and let the show go to another broadcaster. It could’ve been a shot in the arm for NN or (probably soon to be acquired) CW. https://deadline.com/2022/06/live-pd-return-on-patrol-live-reelz-dan-abrams-1235040651/amp/ https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/live-pd-return-reelz-dan-abrams-1235288210/amp/
