  1. WBBM is bringing back the streetside studio and jumbotron.

  2. Kelly & Ryan is cleared in the 9am hour on too many ABC affiliates belong to different owners with different contracts. That’s one hurdle. The next hurdle is then getting affiliates to give the 9am hour to the network. Ripa was upset that Disney/ABC and Michael Strahan came to a deal to move him full time to Good Morning America and didn’t inform her until hours before they issued a press release. “Live” makes too much money for Disney/ABC and their flagship station for them to tinker with moving it or canceling it in favor of Good Morning America. What actually was under consideration at one point was Regis and Kathie Lee replacing Good Morning America in part or in full. This was in the late 90s after GMA ratings nosedived when execs made the decision to replace Charlie Gibson and Joan Lunden with Kevin Newman and Lisa McRee, and before they decided to bring back Gibson and pair him with Diane Sawyer.

  3. The article to me reads like they're only building a "state-of-the-art weather center" in the space and not trying to replace the current news set. Weather is something that wasn't given much attention on the current O&O sets, so that makes sense.

  4. It's been 5 years since they debuted the group-wide set, so one would think that they could opt for a new design. That said, if it were laid out like the original 2008 set, they could totally fit the current set pieces into that area, while expanding the weather center, like Lyons is promising. As for what value there is in making this move, ultimately it's an investment in the visibility of the product, but only because they couldn't get any takers for the space. Because they have it, they're going to use it. I doubt it's much more complicated than that.

  5. They’ve always filmed GMA3 even on days where they both filled in on the main show. My point is that oftentimes the show’s news segment includes outdated news since it’s filmed at 9am and aired at 1pm. Most days it’s not so glaring but on days like today it’s a huge weakness and I’m always surprised that they just go with it. /rant over

  6. MSNBC showed off some updated breaking news backgrounds, the in-studio elements have been used before but they swapped the standard blue & yellow Reports background for a red background with an added “breaking news” vertical crawl. I wonder if it’s the new look or just used for major breaking stories since they, like everyone else, overuse the breaking news banner. Either way it looks sharp. Old/Standard breaking news look:

  7. Didn't that get rumored once and caused one of the infamous Kelly Ripa freak outs?

  8. Weather Center, but there would still be space for a small set. And with Brad Edwards reassigned to CBSN Chicago, they could put a small enough set in to give the OTT a different look from the traditional news set?

  9. I’m very happy about this decision but also wonder what they expect to get out of the move.

  10. Wow, how about that. As far as set design goes, are they restricted to following certain CBS O&O design elements? I wonder how much creative liberty they'll have with how they use the space.

  11. Shiba Russell signed off for the last time at WXIA 11 Alive. I have a feeling she will be a network correspondent in the DC area or an anchor in Philly. Sad to see her go. Atlanta viewers seemed to have taken a liking to Ms Russell. Best of luck to her!

  12. Hopefully one of the requirements is the new information is part of the public domain; the Nielsen maps being under copyright has always been frustrating.

  15. I'm sure THIS is finally the time a WBBM anchor change will make them #1.

  16. Days like today are when GMA3 is pretty weak. Significant implications from the SCOTUS decision on Roe v Wade and they’re airing an encore presentation of a recent episode dedicated to cooking. Any and TJ anchored GMA this morning too. I’d love for ABC to find a way to make GMA 3 consecutive hours. The show has been performing pretty strongly lately coming in at #1 and beating the 4th hour of Today and other competition.
