  1. I tend to agree with that argument, and if CBS even goes with the CTV-style branding at all, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made exceptions for their market leaders. WCCO, WJZ, KDKA, etc are known by their longtime brands on social media, billboards, a weather tower (in CCO’s case), and their vehicles. That’s too much successful brand familiarity to change overnight for the *chance* that the other markets improve. That said, we likely won’t know anything for sure until we see station promos in August/September. Some signs point to brand standardization, other signs point to keeping the call letters, etc. We’re all making guesses at this point, and none of them will be reliable until we see more.

  2. That's actually a pretty cool wrap as far as news vehicles go!

  3. Especially after the paint on their vehicles, black and yellow nor KDKA ain't going nowhere any time soon.

  4. The new graphics the CBS O&Os debut this fall will be uniform across the group. That means say goodbye to the Steelers/Pens/Pirates colors.

  5. Spoke too soon Starting this Monday. KPIX will be launching an hour long 7am online newscast on CBS NEWS BAY AREA. one of the anchors IG story mentions that there will be more fun…we’ll see if they loosen up their sleeves like KGO does because ABC7 @ 7 literally screams KTLA. Especially with the lower thirds when they go to break. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2022/7/6/someone-is-cranky

  6. I will disagree on this for now and believe KDKA-TV will modify it to match the current package when it launches. I don't see them getting rid of the Steelers/Pens/Pirates colors yet.

  7. Everything is pointing to CBS using these DFW-hub produced newscasts as what will subsume all the existing brands. (NewscastStudio isn’t exactly a reliable source, tbh, I could barely read what Michael Hill wrote.) Outside of WCCO, KCNC, WJZ and KDKA, the CBS O&Os are laggards. WFOR, KYW-TV and WBBM have nothing to lose by becoming CBS News Miami, CBS News Philadelphia and CBS News Chicago, respectively. Ditch the current number and call letter brands and Enforcer, too. Besides, it’s all but confirmed that WWJ-TV will be rebranding as CBS Detroit/CBS News Detroit when their news operation launches.

  8. WAVY 6pm news from August 1990. My first time seeing a 6pm open with Wall to Wall/The Team!

  9. Probably. I wish CCO hadn't ditched the "weather watcher whistle" for the CBS 5-note tone. I still argue the "If it isn't broken..." argument. WCCO desperately needs a graphics refresh like all the CBS O&O's; but they have done a good job going with what they know works in the market- a set that has aged shockingly well for being 10-years old (minor updates, of course), iconic branding, and recognizable air staff. On the other side of town, KARE11 used to be #1 with that same formula, and now they're just happy to be in the Top 5 (as of Nov 2021).

  10. I wonder if they'll incorporate the little 5 note ditty that WBZ and WCCO are using for their weather

  11. Next. It’s a no for me. It’s as bad as when KTLA used “MetroVision Weather” back in 2006

  12. Couldn’t agree more @ThunderJay27 , NBC10 was amazing last night. Glad everyone at the station is ok. They finished airing the fireworks then went to a 30ish second promo for their storm ranger, then came back on for the breaking news with Keith & Tracy at the desk in studio live at 10:03PM, so they were on it right away. NBC10 stayed live til 12:35AM, and had the best coverage by far. Going to Jim & Jaqueline on the parkway and other reporters they already had in the area gave them the advantage over other stations who were left scrambling to send resources. Hearing the NBC10 reporters describe how they laid down on the stage, hid under a food truck, crawled under the platform and other stories of seeking shelter reminds us how dangerous this job can be, yet they continued to report and share essential information that kept people safe. Honestly, it was award worthy coverage in my opinion. I have a clip of them breaking in but the file is too big so I’ll figure something out.

  13. The current WRIC-TV 8 logo is bland compared to WRIC-TV's "twisted 8" logo...

  14. WMTW and KOLO have better designs for a logo for an ABC affiliate featuring the number 8. Even WGHP's Sottsass-Memphis art movement-inspired "triangle 8" logo survived the switchover from ABC to Fox in the big TV affiliation shuffle of 1994-1996 before it was unceremoniously ditched in the late 1990s, was a better logo...

  15. I don’t get the hate for that old logo. It’s better than a generic 8.

  16. Looks decent…for 2010. Maybe it’s just me, but imho both the graphics and music are a downgrade from what they replaced. They both look/sound well past their expiration date, and they just debuted. If only Tribune’s creative services team was kept…

  17. I'm keeping an eye on weather brandings. Outside of Weather, First Alert Weather is the most popular brand in the country and continues to grow. I know because Gray's WGGB/WSHM just adopted First Alert Weather within the last two-three weeks. CBS saw the name as an opportunity for some of its markets.

  18. Breaking News : WABC-TV News Director, Rehan Aslam, passed away in Ohio this morning. For nearly a year, Rehan had been battling an aggressive brain tumor. He fought with bravery and optimism until the very end. https://www.facebook.com/100044295403305/posts/pfbid02h8nkCLcMZFxJxvNTLV6pEoSC4nmzQe3pCnUvdMy7cCmjnS3CSLo15ZYNeNQEXqyAl/?sfnsn=mo
