"I don't like something, so instead of just not tuning in, it shouldn't exist for anybody."3 points

Keep in mind, the era a lot of these are coming from was when it was still entirely possible for a station's in-house graphics department to create an entire news graphics package on their own. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that's where a lot of these unknown ones came from, especially the larger stations (i.e. WPIX and WGN) You see a lot of TVbD knockoffs because a lot of stations looked at their work and went "we can do that ourselves for much less". You don't see it much anymore because most stations barely have a graphics department, and unless you really like working in local TV, most decent designers jump ship to different lines of work.3 points

Aside from the Dodgers, I’m sure his famous moment came when he was the play by play announcer for the 1986 World Series on NBC, Especially when it came to game 6. After Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner botched that famous catch resulting in the Mets winning it, Scully uttered a more famous quote three minutes after that moment that went: ”If One picture is worth a thousand words, you have seen about a million words”, and there’s more to that quote.3 points

If anything, I'm surprised the news program didn't adopt the Today brand, could have easily been called "TODAY in the Afternoon". Looks like GMA3 has some competition. Days and GMA3 seems like they were neck-and-neck in the ratings: https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2022/07/daytime-broadcast-ratings-for-the-week-of-july-11-15-20222 points

Actually YouTube TV is their first pay TV provider. Verizon would be their first cable provider. Considering FOX Weather is streaming first, I don't think they'll lock it down anytime soon, or else they'll lose most of their user base. Also, look at Newsmax. Their stream is completely free despite being on many cable providers.2 points

Here’s the thing, we should know when the new graphics will launch if/when CBS News Detroit launches.2 points

According to Vulture, NBC is moving Days Of Our Lives to Peacock this fall, and replacing it with a new midday newscast, NBC News Daily.1 point

Considering that KVVU did not start doing regular newscasts until 1998... that's a long way from the initial half-hour 10pm show they launched back then. Fox must have lit a fire under them to get a newscast going, because the way Vegas was growing, it was likely one of the largest markets without a Fox station airing news at the time.1 point
-
Its not a surprise. One, its Vegas. Two, Gray is converting KVVU into what KSNV wanted to do under Jim Rogers. So now, its 4-10am, 1-2pm, 3-7:30pm and 10pm-12am. That's 13 and a half hours if your keeping score at home, LONG and away THE most hours of produced local news hours in Southern Nevada. I recorded the open and close to the first 7:00 p.m. newscast from that night:1 point

Well said. I'm guessing that Comcast wants to make MSNBC a full political channel (similar to Fox but in the other direction) and use this as a "Real News" alternative. If they were that concerned about Chris Jansing, she would be part of this "NBC News Daily". I also believe that many affiliates could also lose Kelly Clarkson to other stations as well (WPXI lost Kelly to WTAE for example). I wish they would have just given this spot back to the affiliates.1 point
-
You have to assume there will be a number of affiliates not happy right now to learn their schedule is incompatible thanks to NBC giving an hour over to news, and since Kelly Clarkson is a lead-out from DOOL in some markets, her flow is also screwed up. There are still NBC affiliates that have never recovered from the Santa Barbara hour going back to them and having to fill it with a C-level talk show (or now Dateline), which is why NBC couldn't give up the Another World/Passions hour when they expanded Today the second time. And now the affiliate base has to take the brunt of the 'what is a Peacock', 'can't you just air it anyways just hook up your TV to Peacock and broadcast it' and 'I will never watch your station again' calls. If this was announced a year out maybe it would work out well. Now it just seems like a panic 'follow the leader' move because ABC lucked into a good thing with GMA3WYNTK and NBC itself has such a deep hard news vacuum between 7:40 a.m.-6:30 p.m. outside breaking news days. And oh God this is inevitably gonna have a 'deal of the day' segment like GMA3WYNTK and The Talk isn't it? And...(LeBron timeout pain GIF)...MSNBC. You already have a news channel. You're basically telling Chris Jansing you don't care about her 1 p.m. show. ABC at least gave plenty of notice All My Children was ending and had the 'we don't have a news channel' excuse to cover the move.1 point

I feel like FOX views FWX as their version of the big 3's streaming news outlets. The news market was saturated (and they already launched FOX Nation), so this is their entry into the FAST realm. Their spots on the streamers have been firmly established, so now they can work on getting their way onto cable lineups.1 point

Logopedia counts WGN as a client with WGN-TV dating back to 1991, so I believe its them.1 point

CNN Headline News from September 22, 1985 (joined in progress): A 90-minute block of CNN HN from April 20, 1988 (not 1985, as the video title incorrectly indicates): CNN HN w/Lynne Russell from Dec. 29, 1992: CNN HN joined in progress, with the top story being Michael Jordan's first retirement from the NBA on Oct. 30, 1993:1 point

Lollllllllll! Why isnt Bianca included in the 9am hour? Unless Fox 5 wants to keep the rotating guest host format?1 point

KYW launched those with their new set. Given the projected fall launch and the fact that we’ve just hit August, it makes sense that they’re all starting to transition now.1 point

That or a way to repeat hours more easily. Fox Weather sure seems very much in the experimental stage.1 point

@Spring Rubberand I are both huge watchers of FOX Weather ever since this channel came out. Yes, I have noticed this as well. Is this the start of live 24/7 weather? I don't think so but the changes are really noticeable. For now, the program guide on The Roku Channel still says the program names and the times it airs.1 point

That's not a "mock", it's an actual graphics package offered up by our very own @cxd7346. It is NOT the new O&O graphics. While the package is well done, this thread is not the appropriate place to talk about it.1 point

I completely agree, and I would certainly hang on to local identities at the top-rated stations if I were running the joint. That said, Wendy McMahon isn’t exactly a stranger to this industry. I imagine that if CBS really is going full-Macy’s, she and the rest of the management team have taken all of this into account. Local stations in Canada used to identify with channel numbers like their American counterparts. However, as the national networks in that country expanded their footprint, the local stations began identifying by their network, rather than “Channel X.” Even though leading stations like CFCF, CHAN, and CFTO dumped their longtime monikers, they still lead their respective markets, and they also contribute to the success of their networks’ national news operations. If I had to guess, CBS concluded that at worst, standardizing their stations’ brands won’t change their current ratings positions. Granted, these moves would not be “innovations” or ratings game-changers by any means. KYW, WFOR, and WBBM aren’t going to shoot to first place because of a brand change, and it’s unlikely that KDKA, WCCO, and WJZ will drop to last. However, standardizing station identities could give a relatively weak national news brand (CBS News) a much-needed boost. And besides, with the growth of streaming, people don’t tune in to “Channel X” anymore. They tune to the network. Will it work? Dumping established identities risks throwing away a station’s legacy, and established local stations usually help boost the national network (see WRAL.) However, if people are tuning into WJZ/KDKA/etc and turning off when the Evening News comes on, that doesn’t really help CBS. I highly doubt it will change anything at all on the local level, but there’s a chance it will improve the reputation and ratings of their national morning and evening news programs. Time will tell.1 point

That's an actual package that stations can use. It isn't a mock of anything.1 point

I'm on the fence when it comes to CBS experimenting with that Now newscast concept on its Independent, CW, and My-Network-TV stations. I came across an interesting video on YouTube of what could be described as a mock CBS O&O intro. I doubt we'd be seeing this show up on CBS O&O stations. I'll admit that it looks great and could easily pass for CBS O&O graphics and opening package. We'll have to wait and see what CBS rolls out to its stations in the Fall.1 point

Yup. People love having some kind of local connection. Lazarus here used to have 10 or 12 stores in the area. Once they took the Lazarus names off the buildings and put Macy's on them, they've dwindled to three stores, soon to be two.1 point

I'm not liking this CBS News Now on CW Philly at 10PM. I prefer just the local news given by my local newscasters. I know it has some local news, but If I want to see that much national news, I'll watch the evening national news at 6:30PM or CNN/MSNBC.1 point

CBS oughta check in with the brain trust at Macy’s about how well standardization works.1 point

All the evidence is overwhelming at this point. Say goodbye to channel numbers on CBS O&Os this fall.1 point

It shouldn't be too much of a surprise, as that set design seen elsewhere, while obviously attractive enough and totally serviceable, is over 5 years old.1 point

Looks nice. I'm surprised they didn't get the same set everyone else has gotten.1 point

I love the news desk! I'm glad they chose not to do the trendy standing anchor desk! Something about them make me so uncomfortable/unease1 point

Also, the phrase "CBS Philadelphia" was uttered a couple of times throughout the newscast.1 point
-
A few comments on the branding side of things: FWIW, there isn’t a single 3 in sight on the set itself. However, you’ll notice that the desk and one of the big screens have “Eyewitness News” logos imposed over what looks to be the new graphics. These details aren’t indicative of anything (and they could very well be temporary,) but they’re interesting to note. As far as the set itself, it’s a massive improvement, and it feels much more spacious than before.1 point
