  1. This is the same outlet that made it seem like Norah O'Donnell was on her way out at CBS, before she wasn't. It seems like this may be based on a single source, described as an "insider," but that doesn't even necessarily mean this person works there. I don't even see this "insider" describing a situation they witnessed or citing a person he or she heard this from. The Post has a political axe to grind and this story is perfect for them. Take any Post gossip with a spoonful of salt.

  2. And why would two different stations in the same state do this? Kinda pointless for one station to be Ohio News First if another station in the same state adopted the same brand.

  3. Considering the network's muddled direction (not quite Fox News, but also CourtTV), this is more just turf protection for their FNC brethren than a political axe to grind. I do take a few things seriously here (especially the whiny timeslot hysterics). This is just more a case of an impatient media divo not understanding the days of his show getting 1 million+ are over and he has to rebuild an audience week by week and month by month with patience. If he wanted instant gratification he should've started a Twitch channel with Mr. Beast or something.

  4. Honestly I like everything but the intro. The end looks like something made in SketchUp without any sculpting with too many shadows.

  5. So far I like the feel of CNN This Morning. The way the CNN part of the logo animates in the open reminds me of CNNI designs. The rest of the look feels a lot brighter and "more airy" than the previous red and black New Day look, which used a lot of black and white photos and had a dramatic theme that did not feel at all designed for a morning show. I like the teaming of Poppy, Don and Kaitlan. All are familiar faces to CNN viewers so it's not like anyone has to get used to new people. They all seem very eager to remind people that they have to wake up early -- feels like a tired comment, especially to make several times in an hour. The set, if it is indeed temporary, looks pretty nice, even if it is mostly "flat." I like that the backdrop behind the anchors isn't just another NYC skyline -- it has the Brooklyn Bridge on the right, the Golden Gate on the left, with the White House, Chicago and the Hollywood sign in between (and I'm sure a few others that I missed). (I remember when Chris Licht's CBS This Morning debuted in 2012, they also tried to include shots from around the country next to the logo bug, and they even made sure to include farmlands in the photography in the lower-thirds -- didn't spot any farms on CNN today.) As far as substance, it feels a lot like New Day the last few months: Not dominated by political panels debating the same few topics all hour every hour. Not sure if it hits the promise of informing viewers if they only have 5 or 15 minutes, as mentioned in the promo, but I didn't expect this to be the old CNN Headline News. It's just amazing how much brighter colors and music can affect the feel of a show.

  6. Well it's a new day at CNN... -CNN Newsroom International at 4am Eastern debuted with with an updated open and sound. Interestingly there was a lot of co-anchor chit chat between stories which is unusual for CNNI. -Early Start was trying a few new things, one of which was a bad start. Christine Romans was standing at a monitor for pre-show teases. Then they rolled the open, which is only about 4 seconds, and apparently expected her to race back to her seat in that time.....which didn't happen. The open revealed to her just about to sit down. Story count is also higher with dedicated segments to hit stories around the nation/world. (It had a funky name but I can't remember what it was.) -CNN This Morning....overall a pretty good debut so far. A bit of a chat off the top talking about the show's debut. (In contrast to New Day's almost non-existent goodbye). I'm liking the color pallet. Light woods tones. The show open is unique for CNN. Though I'm not liking how the "This Morning" text renders as a result of the 3D lighting effect. The sound is piano based and much more calm than New Day was. The CNN logo has an interesting texture on it. Almost like snakeskin. They have custom post-open tease graphics which are ugly and do not match any other part of the new look. They have also been leaving the anchor mics open as they toss to break letting us hear them chat or whatever. I don't see that effect lasting long. The studio is nice but it's my understanding this is temporary? They did a segment standing at a rectangular counter in an area that I would call "kitchen inspired" with props and such. Dr. Sanjay Gupta was there with a model brain to illustrate a story.

  7. Don't get carried too away. They'll only do this on their flagship market so that this sucker can succeed. Also, WXIX is #1 in Cincinnati. Why change that?

  8. CNN needs a graphics overhaul badly. That looks horrible.

  9. Apologies for being late to the party, but I wanted to say thanks to those of you who advocated for changing the thread title and followed through. It’s a small thing, but it matters to some of us.

  10. A good rule of thumb that’s worked well for me: If it’s a sensationalist piece from the NY Post/NY Daily News, there’s a 50% chance it’s horsecrap.

  11. Exactly. Good Day is where they know they have people and that’s where they focus. They got lucky with Lori but now they’re back to where they were.

  12. My theory has always been that Fox 5 evenings competes well enough with PIX11 that there isn’t an emphasis on investing there. Everything about the 5,6 and 10pm lacks inspiration. Aren’t they one of the few Fox owned stations that have never invested in an 11pm addition to the 10pm? It’s probably not entirely fair but they simply do not seem to take their evening side serious.

  14. Nexstar has been so successful with NewsNation you would think they would keep people who really know what they are doing in place.

  15. Very GMA with the opening shot and angle of the three anchors. Very CBS This Morning with the shape of the table and the tri anchor formatting which also has GMA undertones. Sometimes the constant mentioning of working life and kids can come off as forced efforts to make the anchors seem like friends or relatable to the audience.

  16. Are you talking about Steven Walsh? That guy gets on my nerves (and as someone who speaks with Ntropolis regularly, I can definitely confirm Steven grinds his gears as well). Yesterday on my classic video channel, 31 Rewind (shameless plug: please subscribe, as I have lots of unique content on the way), I uploaded a set of KSAT breaks from 1988. Not even 10 minutes later he had the legal ID up from that video on his channel. It was a late night post too so it makes me wonder if this guy even sleeps. His titles all follow the same formula: “(CALL) id (YEAR)” and have nothing in the description. Not even a credit/courtesy to the original upload. THAT part frustrates me the most - does not take much effort to credit the original uploader if you feel the need to do this, considering that it costs money to source the tapes, buy the right equipment to digitize them, actually digitizing them (a 6 hour tape will probably take, gasp!, 6 hours to digitize) and then time editing and uploading them. People like him and KLMO (I have no shame in calling him out - it’s VERY well known here in the community I despise the guy since the day he ripped off my main channel branding on one of his secondary channels) get on my nerves and frustrate me, but ultimately there’s little I can do. Those two are also THE reason I watermark my videos now. I hate doing it, because it takes away from the purity of the content. But I also don’t regret doing it, as it’s easy now to keep track of where my stuff gets used, and I’ve been surprised to see where some of it has ended up too!

  17. YES! Stealing videos from other accounts should result in a community guidelines strike. Why should I see the same sign-off clip posted on THREE different channels, just with different descriptions or title names?

  18. All the more galling as there are a certain few channels which refuse to credit anyone uploading 100+ videos a day (most of them swiped from ntropolis and RetroOntario and the like) and which attract only the annoying 'channel number/current owner' comment crowd. They've been polluting my algorithm as of late, and it drives me crazy.

  19. WVUE Chief Meteorologist David Bernard is stepping down to continue pursuing his master's in social work at Tulane University. Noon and 4 pm meteorologist Bruce Katz will take over David's position at the end of November. David has a similar separate message for viewers.

  21. Definitely speaks volumes as to how seriously CBS is taking this revamp; Yuccas is a bit of a rising star at CBS News and she'll be continuing as a west coast correspondent as well

  22. No answer on that one, but I Hope they’re doing better than ever. If they are, maybe there’s potential for WOIO in Cleveland to rename itself as WONF, Ohio News First, and potential for WXIX in Cincinnati to rename Themselves as WCNF, Cincinnati News First.
