Knowing the way revivals are big these days, I wouldn't be surprised to see Whose Line come back eventually, plus of how cheap it is to produce. Maybe ABC can give it another go alongside its other game shows.4 points

I wonder if they’re preparing TV3 for election night? GMA weekend coming from Times Square the last few week where it should always be in my opinion.2 points

Whose Line will film its 20th season in January, and 11th and final season for The CW...surprised at this one because it was reasonable and cost-effective to film, but obviously it wasn't going to stay on the Perry version of the network unless it filmed in Branson or some other cheap tourist hell.1 point

The WCNC Real News open sample on the NMSA comes from an open digitaldave1982 uploaded to YouTube years ago - I think it was dated 1990 or so, it's long gone unfortunately. There are a few clips of them using Real News on YT if you dig around.1 point

Here’s the link to the original KCBS full newscast- and the date is July 8, 1991, not April 4 (the Christopher Commission started in April 1991, and there’s no way they’d have everything wrapped up in a couple of days…) https://archive.org/details/kcbs-070891-11pm1 point

A few things I noticed. One; I think this might be the first time a full newscast from the WOR era has surfaced (at least, that I'm aware of) and why does Bear look like he's about to...relieve himself in the image that the algorithms at YouTube have chosen for the thumbnail? Also ran across this today (mostly a group of commercials from an episode of Family Ties, but starts with a WAVY special report on a 3 alarm fire {don't recall seeing any local "special report" graphics from that era before})1 point

Revisiting the final years of the Oprah show, it's amazing how well produced it was in terms of aesthetic. Talk shows today look so washed out and cheap. The bright lighting has not helped declining budgets in the age of HD at all. Outside of the quality of the show Oprah generally had the best aesthetic look of all the talk shows at the time. The video walls here blend in nicely. I like how the producers use the portrait effect to blur the background. The lighting isn't too harsh and the high definition looks smooth. It's amazing how far things have gone downhill since 2010 for daytime TV.1 point

The list of locally-produced sitcoms is, unsurprisingly, short. A lot of people in the TV business know of Park Street Under, the sitcom produced by WCVB that's believed to have inspired Cheers and is still remembered by Bostonians of a certain age. On the other hand, you have this: Hamtramck, a production of WDIV in Detroit. A disaster according to almost everyone, it caused the station to be inundated with phone calls from offended viewers, mostly from the Polish community. In fact, according to Mort Crim's memoir, word of the show and it's portrayals made it to Poland itself, and those Poles who heard of it also hated it. In fact, when Crim was on assignment there, his interpreter nearly deserted him when she learned that he worked for WDIV. She stayed on only after Mort and crew convinced her they had nothing to do with Hamtramck. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IZiVLneyHRpQqQuEXlUgRZW8tasZIaEt/view1 point

I'm not positive, but I think The Disney Channel had their once-monthly maintenance periods for several years after going 24/7. Not sure if that remains the case today, but I know all the other premium networks still shut down for their maintenance once a month. The other day, I found this one from Showtime circa 1985/86 (not 1987, as in the video description):1 point

Bumping this up: long before social media provided the storylines of the daily serials at the click of a mouse or the press of a phone key, the networks then did their own promos for what was to come on the daily serials, and you never knew what would happen unless you followed those serials very closely. Here's a promo from May '81 for Another World (using NBC's Proud N and Serif Gothic promo font of the time):1 point

We all know the classic 'HBO in space' theme but did you know there was an extended instrumental version of the said composition? This version was based off a cassette that was sent to radio stations to promo upcoming movie showings on HBO. There's also a vocal version of the said theme. To hear that, if you have a TVPMM account, you can log in + listen to 'HBO - feature presentation' under category "Movies". I feel like certain TV themes always had some sort of extended CD-esque releases in the 80s. Recently at work I heard (read: figured out) the full version of 'the greatest american hero' thru the sound system.1 point
