  1. An hour of true-crime investigation programming every night? Hard pass. In fact, I doubt affiliates would like it, either.

  2. If I wanted to watch Dateline I would watch it in syndication or on MyNetwork TV.

  4. CNN should be trying to woo Shep Smith. He’d be an excellent addition. And given all the current turmoil at FOXnews, I wonder how many of their journalist on and off camera are considering a jump to one of the other cable news nets.

  6. The difference is though NBC wouldn't be adding a late night talk show in primetime, they'd just be moving the local news up an hour. Fox has had local news at 10 for years, so it's not implausible that it could work for NBC. I do agree that NBC will be at a disadvantage from CBS and ABC. All big three networks however need to consider this because it's clear they're struggling to fill programming.

  7. Most likely that. That sounds like a "the competition is doing this, therefore we must do it too" directive from somebody locally. That graphic also looks like a rush job from the hub which is typical of station-specific requests. This is not a thing on other O&Os nor would I expect it to become a thing.

  12. They used to have four with KCOP in the mix, and KCOP struggled for years before Fox ultimately subsumed everything into KTTV. Los Angeles is almost an anomaly with three 10pm English-language newscasts battling it out against each other. If such a thing were to be tried out in Memphis or Jacksonville or Omaha, the results would be beyond disastrous. There is such a thing as too much local news in Anytown, USA. When you gripe at operators “cheapening out” on news and graphics and music, muse about off- and on-air talent resigning and getting out of the industry, or insist MMJs are a pejorative for Something Bad, maybe it's because the economics of More Local News doesn't exactly add up the way you want it to.

  14. Over the past few months, I noticed KYW-TV phasing out "Eyewitness News" in favor of "CBS News Philadelphia". It was very gradual, but now it seems like the Eyewitness News name is completely gone after nearly 60 years. The news opens I saw last week said "This is CBS News Philadelphia". As recently as last month, the news desk still said "Eyewitness News".
