  1. Looks like KOVR just switched.....

  2. I’m aware that Philo has an unlimited DVR and recordings last a year. Still, personally for me, Comcast’s 20 hour capacity is not enough. I tend to procrastinate and I record a lot of shows, so by the time I get around to watching it, it’ll probably be gone with a 20 hour DVR. I don’t have to worry about that with Philo, but that’s just me

  3. I’m from the Sacramento viewing area. The channel is using the new black/white CBS 13 logo bug for its syndicated shows on air at the moment.

  4. You're confusing the amount of storage space and the length of time any given program can be kept on the DVR. Unless, of course, you really do want to record 8,760 hours of content and not watch any of it till summer of next year. (Is fast-forwarding through commercials that enjoyable?) 20 hours has proven to be plenty for me, though I don't watch much linear TV these days.

  5. The job is Mike Marza’s to lose, unless someone they rotate it has undeniable chemistry. That’s how Ken Rosato got the job (over Jeff Rossen who became the primary sub, and an auditioning Don Dahler), and how Steve Bartelstein moved in from sports to replace Robb Hanrahan as morning news anchor.

  6. Really, what is their deal, over there? BY MY COUNT (let me know if anything has changed), KTRK puts out 9.5 hours of news, each weekday, as do KABC and WPVI, and yet they have way more anchors. Outside of the morning shows and whatever role Simon is taking on at 10pm on 13, note that 3rd anchors (looking at you, 6abc) are in contributing roles. The question mark count is also for where there are apparent vacancies. I know some of the KTRK folks have other on-air roles, like Winkler and Rivas, but goodness, they're an insanely bloated operation.

  7. That isn’t a bad idea but channel 7 is such a traditional station in every sense that I can’t see them experimenting with their wildly popular morning program. Especially when they have a deep and talented bench ready to go.

  8. The “wake up with..” is not too new, but updated to have Ken edited out. A more recent promo (“a new day is a new start! Start new with…”) has also been edited to remove Ken. crazy idea: I think WABC shouldn’t replace Ken and should instead elevate Heather and Sam to co-anchors. Go the route of GMA with three anchors and just have Heather and Sam trade off some of the stories with Shirleen being the main “news” person.

  9. KTRK’s anchor line up is ridiculously chaotic and all over the place. Erica Simon is moving to 10pm M-F but Gina and Erik don’t seem to be moving off the 10pm show.

  10. I'm interested in them too. I'll buy them. Talk is cheap. Sinclair obviously saw its stations as being more lucrative than the Tribune stations, or it would have gotten rid of them and completed the Tribune transaction.

  11. I really think Tegna needs to lay low on any future M&A takeovers for a good while.

  12. What’s odd about the initial lineup is that, whereas the European versions of NOW include networks owned by Sky (which Comcast owns), none of Comcast/NBCU’s networks (MSNBC, CNBC, USA Network, Syfy, Universal Kids, etc.) are included in the lineup of the U.S. version.

  13. Hmm...Comcast has elected to bring their NOWTV service to the US. Yeah, 20 hr DVR? Are they out of their minds? I don't know if this is a viable option for me as the lack of sports channels (outside of Peacock and what's offered on Xumo) is inadequate. For non-sports people, even Philo is superior

  14. Rather Breaking News in Alaska.... https://www.ktva.com/story/42439484/gci-sells-ktva-to-gray-television GCI sold its CBS programming to Gray and Gray immediately moved the CBS affiliation to their already owned Channel 5 to create CBS 5 Anchorage. Note to point out that Gray already owns NBC station KTUU. https://www.ktuu.com/2020/07/31/ktuu-expands-into-southeast-alaska-and-kyes-launches-cbs5-anchorage/ Gray also bought the CBS Southeast Alaska stations and NBC Southeast Stations from GCI as well. Quote from the Gray produced article. "Through these separate agreements, KTVA’s local news operation will be preserved and enhanced under the stewardship of a pure-play broadcaster that owns leading local news operations in over 90 markets across the country, from Fairbanks, Alaska, to West Palm Beach, Florida." This also means that (from what I can tell) Gray now owns all NBC and CBS in the Alaska.

  15. Did Gray get their lawyers from the Dollar Store? I can't see how getting fined for grabbing this station violated 1st amendment rights. Of course, they should argue for FCC picking and choosing who to punish for transactions like these

  16. Across-the-board in multiple markets, anchor lineups are getting very chaotic and confusing. Back in the days it used to be Team A: Mornings & Noon. Team B 5pm. Team C, 6pm and Night. With the advent of excessive newscasts, lineups have gotten odd including switching every half hour.

  17. One of the issues that Gray contends in their suit is that the fine “…violates [the] First Amendment because it “penalizes” Gray’s programming choices without furthering the “legitimate” government interest that any such regulation of speech must further.” There are other corporate-filed lawsuits against government actions that resulted in apparent First Amendment violations (e.g., Disney’s challenge to Ron DeSantis and the Florida legislature’s efforts to strip the company of its oversight autonomy over the Reedy Creek district encompassing Disney World over the company’s criticism of the “Don’t Say Gay” law, TikTok’s challenge to Montana’s recently signed law that seeks to prohibit from operating in the state starting in January) which make strong arguments that the motives behind them violated the company’s 1A rights. Unlike those cases, Gray’s argument equating the KTVA-KYES affiliation transfer doesn’t seem like it makes a good argument of a 1A violation, since it doesn’t seem to meet the viewpoint/content-based discrimination criteria that would be considered a definite 1A violation. I fail to see how transferring a network affiliation is a programming decision meets that threshold. They’re better off trying to argue that the FCC was selective in issuing the fine by not making similar decisions regarding similar non-license asset transactions, including those that have happened around that time and since (like those involving Sinclair and NPG). In challenging the fine the first time, Gray cited its 2014 acquisition of the former KHAS’s NBC affiliation and the transfer of the network to KSNB, which it necessitated by its purchase of Hoak and Gray’s existing ownership conflicts with that station in Hastings–Grand Island–Kearney, to form a Top-4 duopoly with KOLN/KGIN, which the FCC didn’t fine.

  18. Understandable for some affiliates above market 100 (the most prominent is WISH unless WTTV-DT2 gets it as originally planned), but... Why would any Plus group affiliate opt their stations out of this?! Maybe your Coastals and Allens will consider it, but most of these groups grab The CW affiliation mainly to have a respectable backup in case of breaking news and not have to bother with scheduling much. Why would they want to opt out on that coverage and deal with the VMVPD's alone? For most of these affiliates below 100, The CW+ sub is a rounding error.

  22. One of the plus sides of an anchor suddenly leaving a station is you get to see different faces in new places. At WABC, it’s been nice to see Sandra Bookman and David Novarro in the morning on some days.

  23. That may be it. Of course, I'm in no rush to see that man go. He's part of my childhood and he can still go. Let him break the record and then ride off the sunset after. He's only doing one newscast anyways per weekday...

  24. CNN's new graphics seem fairly mediocre to me, but I'll wait until they debut on TV to give a more detailed opinion.

  25. That's what CNN does, compromise it's little integrity for a temporary rather than long-term ratings bump. MH -370 is the prime example. Is that the best CNN could do graphics wise??? SMH. Right now MSNBC has the best sets and Fox News has the best lighting. None of the three cable networks have strong graphics.

  27. The Pittsburgher in me is coming out saying: Can some of yinz stop complaining for once? Yes, WBBM pulling a WCBS isn't as exciting as exciting as them using call-letters would be. Just because the verbal branding hasn't changed doesn't mean the product itself is. And the mish-mash of the font for the 2's between the bug & website and the open is driving my graphic designer brain up a wall.

  29. Just hours ago (on the penultimate day of its 2023 session), the Oklahoma Legislature overrode Stitt’s veto of H.B. 2820, the OETA authorization bill, with the necessary two-thirds votes in each chamber. The State House passed it, 73-23, and the State Senate passed it, 38-6, allowing OETA to continue operating through 2026. (It was among 13 bills among the so-called “tantrum 20” vetoed by Stitt that were overridden in today’s session.) I should note that this is actually the second OETA-related bill that Stitt vetoed in the past year. He also vetoed H.B. 1009, which was passed by the legislature during the 2022 session and would have allocated $8.1 million in funding for upgrades to OETA’s Warning, Alert and Response Network (which relays EAS alerts statewide in the event of severe weather or endangered missing persons) in October 2022.

  30. That's two major anchor changes on this new show (in all fairness because of the Don Lemon situation). I wonder if long term CNN will stick with this.

  31. Sounds like a similar lineup as Philo, except with The Weather Channel instead of AccuWeather and a pitiful 20 hour DVR instead of a 1 year DVR
