  1. Someone has uploaded the full hour to YouTube. They've recreated more than one Local Forecast intro plus there was some limited narration, regional conditions plus satellite and radar and even a travel cities forecast! This is an unusually decent effort for something that runs at 4 in the morning.

  2. He is their media reporter writing for their media newsletter. He thought he was being clever tying the bolder font with a bolder direction. Perhaps you disagree. It's not just "some Trump tape from 2021." It is audio of the former president of the United States, currently under federal indictment, admitting that a document he was so cavalierly showing off to a writer was classified and that he could no longer declassify it. It completely blows up each of his public defenses since last August. Yes, it is news, and MSNBC led with it last night at 9. And don't worry, CNN devoted much coverage to Russia as well. The fact that it's from 2021 does not make it any less newsworthy. Hearing the former president say this stuff, instead of just reading transcripts, is rather incredible, and gives new insight into his tone and the tone of those around him. Any news organization wishes they had obtained this.

  3. WFSB announces new set on-air WFSB-Hartford CT has been working on a new set. Expected completion according to their site- end of summer. I think they’ve had a long history of pretty great sets (my opinion) but the most recent one, while probably the most technologically advanced, was rather bland and one dimensional.

  4. I see that too, which is funny in hindsight, considering HLN’s shift away from news.

  5. As much as Scott Jones (FTV Live) likes to call out the regression of modern-day broadcast journalism, the man fails at modern blog/website creation and simple editing of stories. ChatGPT could write better and more clearly than he does. He also thinks an email newsletter is revolutionary…in 2023. But, I will say, good for him for making a living (for 20+ years) with that site!

  6. Speaking of UK game shows, Noel Edmunds' version of Deal was 100x better than Howie's. No fancy models opening cases (or in this case, boxes), Noel had a sense of humor, the contestants came from all walks of life, and it wasn't gimmicky. Most of all, it had NINE £250,000 winners, the highest prize on the show. US Deal only had two $1,000,000 winners after they added numerous million-dollar cases to the game. UK Deal never did that. I suspect Person, Place or Thing will go to my local FOX station in central/SE WA, just like with Pictionary and 25 Words or Less. I heard somewhere that Vanna will stay on with Ryan Seacrest in 2024-25 on Wheel of Fortune. Seacrest has never been married so that takes away a female 'Seacrest' from taking over Vanna's role.

  7. A 1992 promo for WMAQ's First Thing in the Morning, a wacky, informal newscast featuring Allison Rosati and the antics of Bob Sirott, a former WLS-AM disc jockey: By the way, Bob Sirott's and his antics were not appreciated by WMAQ's management and he ended up being let go by the station in 1993. He moved to WFLD where he reinvented First Thing in the Morning as the equally off-beat Fox Thing in the Morning, but now with a co-anchor, Marianne Murciano, who played along with his jokes. (The would eventually get married.) Here's a clip -- including the open -- from 1999:

  8. The HLN’s new logo looks like the former ITN logo IMO.

  10. Incorrect; it’s a third of the article. Oliver Darcy managed to pump four whole paragraphs about the font, the graphics, and how the new graphics were somehow emblematic of Chris Licht’s tenure. Forgive me for expecting better from a major American news outlet, but I think it’s rather childish for a reporter to ramble on about this sort of thing in an attempt to air the network’s dirty laundry. Of course, that’s just my opinion; others are available.

  11. I'll be curious to see how many different cities are covered on the Retro 8s. Going to have to remember to DVR it tonight. Also of note, because "Weather Doesn't Happen On Weekends™", both Retro 8s and Twilight Live are only scheduled to air on weekdays; however, because the TWC programming day starts at 5am ET, this means that Retro 8s actually airs Tuesday through Saturday morning at 4am ET while Twilight Live airs Monday through Friday morning at 5am ET. Also, it looks like they have already dumped the Byron Allen game show from their schedule. They must have gotten some backlash for that.

  13. Yes, Shirley at 10pm is permanent now. I did tune in to see the early evening, and Tamsen is still with Kori for the other dayparts. But aside from promos there is no press release or social media posting on the change. Either way i'd argue there is no responsibility of a news anchor to have a strong social media presence (despite that Tamsen does). Neither Shirley or Kori seem to and that is perfectly okay, as long as they can read the news effectively.

  14. This dude has said and done a ton of horrible things and this tape simply doesn't hold any tangible weight. It's just another item to add to the list. It's the unfortunate reality in which we live. Not saying that CNN shouldn't have aired the tape; I just see it (the tape) as emblematic of them moving away from creating shows like CNN News Central and looking at the majority of things through a political/opinion lens. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it.

  15. There’ve been rumors of it becoming a classic TV channel in the fall, and that tagline certainly will feed the speculation

  16. Really sad news out of Des Moines as of yesterday: Separate article written about it here: Des Moines meteorologist leaving KCCI after death threat, PTSD I remember watching Chris's climate change coverage when he was in Boston and thought about how much more local weather these days could actually use his type of coverage -- at the very least, more stations in the biggest markets could do the bare minimum. Alas, it's very depressing to see the hate take its toll and accomplish what it set out to do. Wishing him well.
