  1. Reminded me of Lisa Colagrossi's, too.

  2. I really appreciate the way CBS 2 handled a horrible situation today. They mentioned Elise briefly at the top of basically every newscast, but then got to the rest of the news, before going in depth and tossing to a longer tribute package. Cindy, in for Chris, was with Mary this morning. You can tell that Cindy and Elise were close. (Cindy is close with everyone.) John did a great job mixing in memories and positive thoughts with the weather. They played Elise's favorite songs as rejoins throughout the morning. At 5, they tossed to an updated version of the tribute. Then Tony Aiello had a nice package about Elise growing up in Mount Vernon and coming back home. That was followed by Dick (in for Maurice), Kristine and Lonnie sharing heartfelt memories and words at the desk together. At 6, Dana had her own tribute package, and then she, Dick and Lonnie reminisced about Elise again. A very emotional day but I think CBS 2 did Elise proud.

  3. And...what does this have to do with the national scene?

  4. Don't Dateline and 20/20 already have two-hour broadcasts?!

  6. Very shocked and sad to hear this tonight. I was an intern in the summer of 2007. There had recently been a piece in one of the papers about all the new weather hires (I believe three -- Elise, Lonnie and John -- had all just started within the previous few months). It was somewhat critical of the others but lavished praise on Elise. I ran into her in the hallway shortly after that came out, introduced myself, and said something like, "Congratulations on all the kind things said about you in the paper!" She said hello and kindly accepted the compliment but also noted how she didn't feel good about it because her colleagues didn't receive a similar response. I know it's a quick story but I was just impressed as a young intern at her humility and truly feeling like a member of a team. Elise leaves behind her daughter Grace and her husband Graig, who is a photojournalist at the station. https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/remembering-our-beloved-colleague-elise-finch/

  7. It could be worse, like a religious network masquerading as a news network....or vice versa.... But maybe it's time to revisit the must-carry rules, since 99.9% of the stations that opt for them are worthless garbage programming of little benefit to the local viewer....

  9. Yes they do! But NBC has so many episodes of Dateline in the can that you could probably run them all every night at 8/7c and it would be a couple of years before the first repeat (not counting the old format with Jane Pauley and Stone Phillips before it went all true-crime).

  10. I’m wondering the same thing following this article, he’s still listed as a NBC News Corespondent, so I’m assuming he’s moving to a new role, hopefully something on streaming or news on MSNBC. https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/zinhle-essamuah-joins-kate-snow-as-co-anchor-of-nbc-news-nows-afternoon-block/534464/

  11. Honestly it's about time they've used it forever through it's many tracks I think in the late 90s maybe 1996. They started using in-sink music.

  12. That's interesting. My guess is some networks may have to look for non-unionized scabs for some of the behind-the-scenes positions. I guess we will see come fall which syndicated daytime shows stay in reruns, and which don't... EDIT - Saw on the Game Show Forum that Jay Leno is keeping You Bet Your Life on hold, and of course, Mayim Bialik walked out too.

  13. I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but it looks like the Sat & Sun 10PM CBS/CW news is no longer on. It's been replaced with SEAL Team & Magnum, PI reruns.

  14. I’ve been a weather watcher on CBS 2 for 9 years and she did so much for me with getting me on tv more than I should have. She was such a nice woman and I’ll never forget her. Mornings will not be the same without her presence. Such a shock—so young and had so much more to give. I’m devastated.

  16. Please don't encourage people to call newsrooms, even if you're not serious. Frankly, I suggest you lose that number, as well. Nobody should be calling a newsroom line (what was posted above was a public NEWS tipline), whether publicly-advertised or not, for any trivial shit, like weather graphics. If you don't like it. Don't watch. It's that simple. Frankly, I'm getting tired of this discussion, no matter someone's opinion on this matter. That means that no response to this post is necessary. Failure to restrain from reiterating the same tired points could result in...well, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

  17. Pittsburgh has neither Gray nor Nexstar as owners...while Atlanta has WPCH that could align with the CW. The overlap that Wheeling-Steubenville had in the old analog days could have come in handy here...

  18. Raycom was producing the ACC games that aired on Bally, they just used Bally’s onscreen graphics for presentation purposes Interesting that 2 ACC homes markets (Pittsburgh and atlanta) don’t currently have a CW affiliate….Nexstar better start making some calls

  21. Sad! I remember many a time hearing (from YouTube) his billing in old WFAA Dallas openings of the 80s and 90s, one of which was for the News 8 Update late edition: "It's 10:00, and this is WFAA-TV Channel 8. Working in the Spirit of Texas...this is the News 8 Update...with Tracy Rowlett...John Criswell...Troy Dungan with weather...and Dale Hansen on sports."

  22. Given NewsNation, even as lackluster as it is, there will be NN local programing on CW, guaranteed.

  23. I had read that the weekend editions of the "News NOW" centralized newscasts had been discontinued but was surprised to see that KYW didn't revert to a local half-hour and instead dropped news altogether. The belief is that once the CBS stations drop The CW, they'll be adding more newscasts, so I'm optimistic that come Fall weekend news will be back. I always preferred their half-hour option at 10.

  24. This was already posted in the WCBS topic but might as well post it here: morning meteorologist Elise Finch has suddenly passed away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPXWRsRpOt4&pp=ygUMY2JzIG5ldyB5b3Jr https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/remembering-our-beloved-colleague-elise-finch/

  25. Oh my, I certainly was not expecting to hear Jessica Moore announce this on the news at 6:30 tonight. Elise Finch has passed away. https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/remembering-our-beloved-colleague-elise-finch/ Prayers and condolences to her whole family. WCBS will probably have more of a tribute tomorrow morning

  26. I wouldn’t exactly say they “lost control” of their sister stations, but they did certainly lose valuable local news real estate. I’m also surprised those weekend editions haven’t been replaced with local newscasts, at least not yet. If we’re to believe what we read, local newscasts will likely be back (perhaps even doubled) on those sister stations, but we don’t know for sure to what level. Perhaps they’re waiting to re-add weekend newscasts if/when the full news expansions take place after the CW is dropped. Most people are under the impression that these sister operations will follow something of a KCAL route (who are heavy in news all morning and evening) but I’d imagine how many new newscasts are added will really vary by market.

  27. Very happy to hear this, hopefully WCBS just regains control of the full 9pm hour and does a traditional newscast again. Preferably reinstate Dick and Alice and the WLNY branding

  28. I’ve never seen WABC start the 11pm news early before tonight. The newscast started at 10:59.

  29. The inevitable has happened; RNN Associates, which turned several major market stations into zombies carrying ShopHQ programming, has purchased ShopHQ's parent company out of (duh) Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They're probably going to keep their viewer-hostile 'only appeal to 50+ers until they're in the grave' strategy going. Great job, FCC; your spectrum auction turned a broadcaster into a shopping network-owning literal waste of electricity for a channel that should've died decades ago but hangs on because of must-carry. Really great for that 'diversity of voices' thing you used to judge licensees on in the old days.

  30. Just heard about this on the radio. Longtime DFW anchor John Criswell has passed. He anchored at WFAA for 17 years, then moved to KDFW and anchored there for 7 years. Criswell is likely the most notable for starting WFAA's regular feature "Wednesday's Child", where a child is profiled who has been fostered and would like to eventually be adopted. "Wednesday's Child" is still a weekly feature on WFAA. Criswell was 83. https://www.wfaa.com/amp/article/news/local/wfaa-anchor-john-criswell-dies/287-84a009b0-db4e-4457-a2f5-22416b476aba
