  1. In a press release, Michael Corn, President of News at NewsNation, said, “NewsNation’s mission is to provide fair and unbiased news coverage, and that’s the way we will approach this important debate. We take this responsibility very seriously and are proud to help inform and educate voters and to contribute to the democratic process.” Dude gonna really sit there with a straight face and say “fair and unbiased coverage” with Megyn Kelly as a moderator.

  2. Honestly, posting rumormongering stories like "why is so-and-so not at work" calls into question the status of being a "legitimate" news outlet. Even as a public figure, some things are no one's business unless and until someone feels they want to share.

  3. People asking questions does not require any news outlet do the same. People noticing someone is gone does not mean it’s newsworthy, particularly the often salacious way it’s portrayed. It needn’t actually spread a specific rumor to be clearly invasive. Yes, they covered the bachelorette party, because she chose to share that. She also chose to share details of her medical diagnosis some time back. We would, as a society, be better served by observing the mind-your-own-business approach.

  4. This is the kind of thing most people wouldn’t have even cared about if there weren’t predatory outlets that drew attention to it. I don’t understand the tabloid fixation with this kind of stuff; if Strahan is dealing w/ something in private, leave him alone and give him a break.

  5. The station that uses Dimensional the best is CBS 5. I don't understand why the other O&O's don't use the full package like CBS 5 does.

  6. Yet, in Tulsa (and OKC), not only can the competition still do well, but there is still a locally-owned independent in each market (KOTV and KWTV, both of which I believe lead their markets). This looks like a Sinclair-specific problem.

  7. One of my managers is a former Sinclair ND. It's all anyone could talk about today. Tulsa is not a small market and KTUL, I think, was in second place.

  8. This is the same show that just did a full blown out celebration of an anchor’s bachelorette party and wedding. Michael is entitled to his privacy but you can’t stop people from asking questions. Sadly there are different expectations of “privacy” for someone in a public profession.

  9. Are there any actual CBS O&O folks here? Word around is the new image (graphics/music) has been a flop. Negative viewer reaction (especially with the music) in just the few months in use. WBBM's President/GM had been very vocal about her concerns about the whole package prior to rollout which are turning out to be true. WBBM has been continuing to use one music cut from the Enforcer package for the opens of the 5, 6, and 10 PM weekday opens since their changeover. I've noticed they've been phasing in more Enforcer cuts here and there, and again for the 10PM bumps. I have a feeling the graphics may stay but the new music may get dumped in the close future.

  10. I'm of the mind that as long as things are okay for him it's none of our business, and we should just let hosts take breaks when they need them. The age of social media where everyone is required to check in daily because otherwise Deadline and The Sun will harass their management as to why is so damaging to privacy.

  11. No, that's not a mistype. Dr. Phil plans to launch a new cable network by February which will feature him in primetime from a new base in the DFW Metroplex and former staffers with the talk show have also moved out there. And yes, he plans a news operation of some kind led by Joel Cheatwood, so make of that what you will. All I can say is it would probably be easier to lease time on OWN or another existing cable channel than launching a new one during the decline of the format, but apparently I'm not mainlining Dr. Phil's out-of-date gut here.

  12. Basically. I really wish there was a company that would come in and buy KTUL but sadly I doubt that will happen.

  14. I can tell you KTUL’s newscasts have not performed well for sometime. its not uncommon for their viewers o be in the hundreds. They occasionally perform worse than longtime basement dweller KJRH. KOTV and KOKI are overwhelmingly dominant in the Tulsa market.

  15. The entire network subsists on FUD, especially on crime, which is incredibly over-covered even compared to FNC. It's balanced towards the local news side that can't stop mainlining bleed-leading journalism even as viewers have long tired of overcoverage of news they absolutely cannot use (Alex Murdaugh, accidents on roads they'll never see in their lives, and UFOs).

  17. This basically further buttresses the theory that the company’s debt (exacerbated by Sinclair’s mismanagement of Diamond Sports into bankruptcy) is having an effect on the bottom line enough that it’s choosing not only to cut back on news operations at lower-rated stations in sub-65 markets, but now cut those in (somewhat) larger markets where their newscasts perform well. It would have been easier for Sinclair to sell off stations to help pay off its debt (setting aside their plans to expand into other non-broadcast businesses until things get stable with their media arms), but their unwillingness to do so means employees at the affected stations suffer the consequences.

  18. I disagree somewhat. These are public people. They have regular schedules and when they're missing, the public notices. As far as I can tell, the stories aren't reporting on any rumors or making things up, just sharing publicly seen details with some requests for comment. If Strahan wants to keep what's happening private, hopefully he can do that. So far, these stories are not invading his privacy. And I hope things turn out OK.

  19. Music I can somewhat understand but the graphics, seriously? I much prefer these to that tired 8 year old package!

  21. I think this is an industry problem today. One or two asks a question or is upset about something and media coverage ballons the matter into a larger issue than it really is.

  22. He, like anyone else, definitely deserves his privacy no doubt. But I’m not surprised some people are curious of his absence, he’s an anchor on the most popular morning show and NFL Sunday.

  24. Considering he broke the contract (which going by what he claims didn't exist in the first place) clearly he doesn't really have a case here; he might be confusing himself with the terms of the has-been networks he carried before; this is a station that proudly carried Newsmax for a couple years in primetime for some reason and couldn't bother for years to upgrade to HD while they carried WDIV pre-emptions, so his business acumen is really dreadful.

  25. I've already got the answer. NGL, I Kevin kinda blew it here. I get that the FCC wasn't eager to greenlight the sale to Mission, but demanding more money from Nexstar in the age of reverse compensation cost WADL dearly. On the other hand, the fact that Scripps was willing to sacrifice what might have been eventual prime time space for the Tigers/Pistons/Red Wings if/when DSG goes belly-up suggests they can be talked into keeping The CW on at least some their stations.

  27. Apologies for the bump. Here's a picture of WKRG's old set in use at the University of South Alabama. They kept the desk, and parts of the backdrop. This was during a visit of Alan Sealls, who also teaches meteorology classes at South Alabama.

  28. Which WGN will get The CW back in 2024 next year at this time when WICU contract with The CW ends. The CW was right to make a deal to air Miss USA always preferred that over Miss America.

  29. What I will say is that this was an absolute bloodbath. 30-40 people let go. the only ones being kept are a handful of MMJs and one anchor. Everyone, and I mean everyone else is gone.

  30. That's just awful to hear too, especially in fairly large markets. I wonder what kind of openings exist in the other stations in each market? I know Gray was very aggressive to pick up those laid off elsewhere, but Gray does not have a station in either OKC or Tulsa.

  31. Well, this is big... and something you'd expect from Sinclair in small markets, but now it's coming to the middle markets too. Sinclair is consolidating KTUL news production with KOKH in Oklahoma City. Sounds like a few on-air folks have already been let go, but the axe will likely continue to swing as KTUL's Tulsa facility basically becomes a newsroom only with broadcasts originating from OKC beginning December 11. From the Tulsa World article: I can't find anything about this on the KTUL site, so it sounds like it's being kept sortof quiet. Given the fast developments, I'm guessing the KTUL and KOKH shows will become something like "Oklahoma News Now" statewide shows, and not truly local to either market. What a shame, and a sad end for one of the foundational TV and journalism brands in the state.

  32. I guess they want to take a stab at getting some real numbers, as opposed to what they get on NewsNation. Still, it's the CW, but it'll be interesting to see what the numbers are....

  33. I’d buy that it could be a TBN Inspire replacement over the idea of Merit being a replacement for the main network. In the past decade, TBN has: * launched TBN Salsa (a bilingual network aimed at Latinos, otherwise redundant in target audience with the Spanish-language Enlace USA), only to drop it three years later; * combined the OTA schedules of JUCE TV and Smile (a la Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite and Cartoon Network/Adult Swim) into one subchannel to make room for Salsa, only to restore their separate 24-hour feeds after Salsa disappeared; * turned JUCE into an online-only channel, and launched Positiv (which carries both faith-based and secular family movies, including some mainstream theatrical films) to fill JUCE’s former linear channel space; * and relaunched The Church Channel as Hillsong Channel and then Inspire (after the Hillsong scandals came to light). But the fact that it’s being advertised as a cable network (in the cord-cutting era), suggests otherwise. We’d need more details to confirm, especially as Merit being a replacement for a TBN network would require a channel-lease deal. (TBN has owned all of its networks, including Inspire during its existence as Hillsong Channel, which was at that time a co-venture with Hillsong Church.)

  34. Did some digging, their website Whois info points to Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and their press release and trademark applications also mentions "Ft. Worth, TX" as building a new "state of the art" facility there, well guess what TBN has been doing since 2021, building a state of the art facility in Ft. Worth that's scheduled for completion by Jan 2024, exactly one month before the new Dr. Phil Primetime show is announced to premiere. It's 100% replacing TBN.
