They had a 4pm long ago — “From the heart of the tri-state area, street level on 5th Avenue, with Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark…” — that was replaced by Judge Judy.3 points

It’s just how the schedule worked out this time. David and Liz have filled in at 11pm before.1 point

Well, I had a feeling that weird half-hour gap at 8:30am wouldn’t last long. The 8am newscast will become an hour-long later this month. So, WCBS will now go head-to-head against WNYW and WPIX from 4:30-10am.1 point

First of all, being a politician should bar you from owning any journalism entity. Journalists investigate public officials and hold them to account of the public interest. Republican or Democrat, politicians shouldn't invest in those that hold them accountable. It's a conflict of interest. However, not all politician is the same. Don't paint with a broad brush. Those who follow the letter of law have no issue being held to account. It is those that are vehemently opposed to accountability that are the ones that are abusing our institutions and laws that are here to protect us. If organizations like Sinclair Broadcast Group and Bill Fielder (a party politician directly), are openly interested in curtailing the accountability that journalism is intended to enforce, then you can easily tell who is on the right and wrong side of the people and easily tell for which political parties they support. I do like they leaned into their longtime font rather than the 'Dare to Defy' font with the design; it's clean and simple in that sense, but I'm just tired of oversized scoreboards. Whenever scoreboards compress to show some stat it looks much better in a smaller form than as a full-screen banner, but sadly vertical video has made a middle score compulsory for social sharing.1 point

It’s important to note that the bottom-third ESPN graphic known as the ESPN BottomLine, which you’ll see a picture of here… actually mentioned The CW when a football (now basketball, found that out while watching College Gameday this morning) game was gonna be broadcast on the channel. So probably not what you’re thinking.1 point

Fox and MSNBC succeed in primetime because they have well-known or decently developed pundits that command an audience, and are good at marketing side projects like books and podcasts (Maddow, Hannity). Outside of Anderson Cooper, CNN lacks draw factor at night. Gayle and Charles were obviously an attempt to bring in well-known personalities, but things look iffy. I support Licht's vision of a news first CNN. If there is to be political commentary however, primetime is definitely the place to confine it. I would get a right, left, and independent personality to each have their own show. Pundits with decent social media draws, who aren't spewing misinformation.1 point

Again, fair points. Unfortunately, from working in the industry and seeing journalist vlogs, it seems people are leaving for PR in droves because of that...among other problems. A lot of the topical talk shows like The Talk, and The View discuss the very same news headlines. So even non-news products are feeding into the repitition. Overall, my point is, is it possible to do something profitable, different , and of good quality that draws ratings---rather than low effort programing.1 point

Red flags here. 1. The station owner is a POLITICIAN. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. 2. He fires more than half of the news crew the station started with. 3. You WILL end up surrendering and working for news stations in other cities. 4. Your budget for newscasts goes DOWN THE DRAIN. Don’t be like KVRR/KQDS. (I sound like one of those children’s advice posters lol)1 point

Even for dear old grandmom, outside of the one thing she paid attention to, the rest didn’t matter. Did anyone (in any significant numbers) really watch (as in engaged) all day long? In the days of games and soaps, were the Price is Right fans really sticking around through four soaps or whatever it was? And look, if someone really does actively watch all day, on say NBC, is that all that different from someone watching CNN etc? Today occupies four hours but by design the 9 and 10 am hours are different. NBC News Daily is different again. The one-man band crews, yeah, that’s hard. But then again, many jobs are rough, and you push through and hopefully move on, whatever your field.1 point

As someone who worked for a station bought by Coastal Television only to get terminated 2 weeks after the fact. LEAVE....NOW!!!!!!!!!!! They come in with all of these promises saying they will make the newsroom much better, invest in a lot of new equipment, provide better resources, the CEO (Bill Fielder) who is also a politician (if that gives you any idea as to what kind of person he is) will act like he is your best friend, has your interest at heart, then when he takes over he eliminates about 90% of the newsroom staff. He will offer you a severance of 1 weeks pay and an extra weeks pay if you sign paperwork promising not to discuss what happened. Spoiler alert, none of us did, and we all took to the competition and newspaper. This company makes Sinclair look like a 5 star company to work for. The guy who owns this is seriously scum. To those who work at KVRR and KQDS, get your resume and reel ready and be prepared to be on the chopping block if you do not leave immediately.1 point

They could give the News at noon to Cindy, so her hours would be 9am and 12pm, and Mary and Chris 4:30-8:30 (although that still is long)1 point

I think it’s been on at least a month. I saw it the one day randomly while waiting for the news at 9am to begin. Honestly, the morning crew works the worst hours. At this point they really need to be excused altogether from the news at noon because their day is too long—I mean, unless they enjoy doing it. They really could just replay the morning news instead of the 7/8am news because it’s all the same information, unless something serious breaks after the morning news is over.1 point

They're in an adjacent market and WITI was a sister station to them until 2020 (even discounting she came in a year later you don't exactly sever sister station relationships that quickly), so they probably have more than a glancing familiarity with her work.1 point

I am extremely excited to announce that "Hello News" and "Hello Quad Cities" has officially made its return to KWQC-TV6, and will soon return to all shows and newscasts permanently effective Tuesday at noon when we kick-off our 75th Anniversary Celebration. This has been in the works for sometime, and wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for my station manager giving me free reign. The amount of calls, emails and messages since last night has overwhelmed all of us, but what is most notable is the huge morale boost in the building from all of the employees. There is not a person in the building who hasn't been caught humming the chorus. Here's a clip of the open and close from last nights special, and also a sneak peak at the new open that begins on Tuesday. My favorite part is the image campaign that I have been working on for months now...but that will have to wait until Tuesday.1 point

Yeah KRON was forced to bring back Instant Classics in the 2000s over the SESAC licensing KTVU almost brought back the Randall theme before Fox bought them Enforcer was effectively a throwback for WCBS/WBBM/KCBS KGO in the 80s twice dropped Cool Hand Luke/NS2K only to bring them back The 99 update to Eyewitness News by WABC was a throwback to the teletype sound Not my favorite package but I’d bet KARE has some brand value in the old Third Coast packages if they brought elements back1 point

They can, and occasionally do. KGNS in Laredo has brought Signature (one of my favorites) back to the airwaves recently, and others can name additional stations that have. Jim1 point

Why should a Flat VO matter in this case, isn't the point of the voice-over to clearly introduce the newscast to the viewer? the lack of emotion is important in that case.1 point

You can see this from there "hello clinton" special last week, they posted it on their website https://www.kwqc.com/video/2023/10/27/hello-clinton-live-clinton-6-pm-pt-5/1 point

Can't figure out how to upload it, but for the 6pm close they're putting the icing on the cake - the 'Hello' waves and the old school closing music.1 point

That is awesome. Wish some other stations could bring back some classic themes for their anniversaries.1 point

I literally get chills hearing that theme. It is my favorite, without question. It brings back so many memories growing up watching WXIA. And it still has a contemporary sound. Well done!1 point

KWQCHELLO2023 (1).mp4 The relaunch happened right after InvestigateTV+ concluded. Attached is what preceded the inaugural noon newscast, the Hello image campaign in all its glory, sadly compressed to fit the filesize limits of this website. I will have the inaugural broadcast, including this promo, in higher quality uploaded on my YouTube channel later. Kudos to everyone at TV6 who made it possible!1 point

I have attempted to reach out to him through contact info that is public but have had no luck unfortunately. I’d love that! We are doing a year long celebration leading up to it. We went on the air 10/31/49.1 point

One of the best local news themes ever produced! Great to see it being brought back! I wonder if anyone has asked Frank Gari for his reaction. He must be proud.1 point

Looks like MSNBC handled this as most of us expected: Alicia was back tonight and addressed the issue at the top saying that she would not be covering the story:1 point
-
Not all situations are comparable. Chris Cuomo crossed a huge ethical line. That doesn’t mean every other person related to a public figure in hot water is going to cross a line. Keep her off covering that story, fine. If there is evidence she crosses a line, do what needs to be done. Don’t assume a problem where one is not indicated and stymie her career for something she did not do.1 point
-
I don't think it's necessary for MSNBC's anchors and reporters to mention the fact that one of their colleagues is related to a figure in the news for corruption. But I think it would be necessary for her to mention that at the top of her show as a reason why she is not covering one of the week's big stories. I think it's unfair to punish or sideline Alicia for her father's troubles, but perhaps it would be good to have her skip this weekend.1 point

I am curious to see how MSNBC handles this as well. They go out of their way to remind the viewers that their parent company is part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers’s (AMPTP) whenever they cover the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike but so far have not mentioned the family connection to Alicia. There will be tough times ahead for Alicia and her brother Rep. Menendez (NJ-8) as they support their parents throughout this challenge while maintaining their professional roles. As long as Alicia doesn't cross the line like Chris Cuomo did and respects the journalistic boundaries that are required she will be fine - but I can only imagine how tough it will be as they are her parents.1 point

Not a big fan of the look. So many things to touch but I'll keep it short. I like the fact they are trying to go for a clean futuristic feel but it's just executed horribly. If you're going to a super wide scorebug, at least find a way to put the school logos in with all that space. Another annoying thing is the network logo placement, I don't get why networks like NBC do this but you shouldn't have your TV logo in the scorebug and as a screenbug in the top right corner. Makes it look repetitive and a mess. Just make up your mind and keep it in one area in order to keep it simple and effective. The last thing is the font, not sure why they made the clock use a skinny font and the period and shot clock bolded. Makes it very hard to see for viewers. Overall, they definitely have some work to do but at least they are finally going their own creative direction. I'm glad to see that the ESPN graphics was just a temporary solution just to get their ACC broadcasts up and running in a short time frame.0 points

The half-hour gap between the 8am and 9am newscast is weird. They should just make the 8am a full hour and go nonstop from 4:30-10am between WCBS, WLNY and streaming.0 points
