The major issue I have with the editorial is it focuses too much on all these Big Four issues, when the major problem are these subfarm broadcasters like H2/Edge/DTV America, along with Coastal and WRNN that should be operating stations in the local interest, but instead have bought out stations to turn into subchannel farms of absolute low-effort IPTV crap run by the same kinds of people who have made the Internet an advertising hellscape. Or with Coastal and Sinclair, have completely garbage newscasts recorded during studio downtime that are viewer-repellant. Edge Spectrum has been tolling out CP's for nearly 6-8 years with no intention of actually broadcasting, while H2 has wound down networks for filler crap like Timeless TV and Vision Latina and absolutely refused to be competitive. Even Tegna, Scripps and Sinclair are complicit with this, as outside Ion the rest of their channels are reality glurge only there for advertising slots, and instead of multiple networks like Twist dying because there's nobody watching, they're being replaced with more things nobody is watching. There should be a local broadcaster running these stations, and the religious broadcasters should be serving their community. They aren't, and the FCC is at least trying something. I understand the justification being the Main Studio Rule repeal, but there should be some kind of local programming on these stations, and not just 'I called some NPO to drone 20 minutes about their stuff, we're good' malicious compliance. There are YouTubers in those communities that could probably fulfill those guidelines better in themselves. Just stop consolidating and racing to the bottom, broadcasters. You see what happened to radio; don't try to even venture near that result.

I'm sorry, all I can hear is the sound of a tongues scraping across the soles of boots. All joking aside, how is allowing far off corporations to control the country supposed to promote localism? For that matter, how the hell is any of the consolidation that's happened over the past several years done anything but screw over the little guy? I'm no fan of big government myself, but this recent change is one of the few I've completely agreed with, and before you point to "market realities" (I don't think you know what that word means), let's not kid ourselves; a lot of the wounds the broadcast industry has suffered over the years have been entirely their own fault (iHeartMedia and Sinclair say hi), and things like retransmission consent and reverse compensation have served little purpose than to further alienate the consumers they supposedly speak for.

WKBT has had them for over a year. They debuted them when they debuted Ross Overdrive in 2022. It was a test to see if their VP of news actually liked this vision or if he wanted to switch back to the old look. (I worked there during this transition.)

With local news, occupying much of local station's schedules, surprisingly stations havent adopted a cable like discussion model (minus the arguing) to fill airtime. Much of what I've seen are straight vo/sots and packages. I wonder how much of KTLA's heavy news product is discussion based--outside of mornings?

They must be getting the triangle diagrid graphics in the next few months. Meanwhile, the new websites are definitely a huge improvement.

I like her energy and how she's unique imo - it can be a bit too much at some times but I like the energy when she's on the mornings.

New WRC/T44 newsroom looks nice.

Red flags here. 1. The station owner is a POLITICIAN. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. 2. He fires more than half of the news crew the station started with. 3. You WILL end up surrendering and working for news stations in other cities. 4. Your budget for newscasts goes DOWN THE DRAIN. Don’t be like KVRR/KQDS. (I sound like one of those children’s advice posters lol)

That's terrible, terrible news for those stations. Even Byron Allen or Nexstar would have been much better.

WMYD should’ve been chosen from day one. They are a much better option for CW. Also, never do business with Kevin Adell. The man is a pariah!!

I've already got the answer. NGL, I Kevin kinda blew it here. I get that the FCC wasn't eager to greenlight the sale to Mission, but demanding more money from Nexstar in the age of reverse compensation cost WADL dearly. On the other hand, the fact that Scripps was willing to sacrifice what might have been eventual prime time space for the Tigers/Pistons/Red Wings if/when DSG goes belly-up suggests they can be talked into keeping The CW on at least some their stations.

I think five is sufficient. Four main on-air ones plus a fifth as a behind-the-scenes producer/fill-in.

There may well be exceptions, but by and large, they don’t need to do that. People are tuning in for quick hits, not long blocks. You can adjust the tone and story selection approach to provide different feelings at different times of day, but people aren’t looking for a local version of the cable primetime shows.

WYFF weekday morning anchor Geoff Hart announced that he has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and will not be returning to the station (effectively announcing his retirement from broadcasting). Hart has been with the station since 1993, serving as sports director before transferring to the news side in 2011 as anchor of WYFF News 4 Today. He had been on medical leave from the station since December.
