I give them credit for trying something new. Is the red a bit harsh? Sure. The Dante's Inferno comment made me laugh. But in an era when most stations are swimming in a sea of similarity, I think it is excellent that Local 10 is branching out. The set will also evolve. How they use that LED wall in week 1 will probably look different than week 101. So while it isn't my personal favorite, I applaud their creative thinking.2 points

I'm all for giving the inexperienced a chance if they demonstrate ability...I've been a beneficiary of that. Colleges just need to do a better job of preparing talent before they enter the industry so less on the job training in required. It helps the talent and the station look better.2 points

Agree with the part about redundancy. I can't see why NBCU didn't replace LX Home with NBC News Now as a subchannel. In fact, it would be cool if the Big Four O&Os plug-in their local and national streaming news networks as subchannels, that could at least increase their visibility among those viewers that just rely solely on over-the-air reception. Not everyone has access to or want to use the internet.1 point

Interesting that the red stars disappear when the bug turns red, and they recenter the logo.1 point

The novelty of main anchors being on sunday for a major historical event is certainly worth a note. Keeping talk of other stations in their respective threads is a fair call. BUT To be fair, Now Bergen asked where CBS's main anchors were which drew comparisons to other stations for a context based response to their answer.1 point

To be fair, David Muir was not on ABC either, Whit Johnson lead coverage. CBS did have Margaret Brennan leading coverage who should be considered a familiar face. None of MSNBC's ususal commentators came in, the network simulcast regular NBC. It's always interesting to see how networks handle major breaking coverage on the weekend. So many factors like off times (and summer vacations) play in.1 point

Where was CBS's lead anchor? The other networks quickly brought in their lead anchors quickly. They also used other well known network anchors or correspondents for the late night coverage. It begs lots of CBS News questions.1 point

Yes, was going to mention weekend repeats. The simulcast totally makes sense. I'm not complaining that they didn't have separate coverage as it makes sense to consolidate resources on the weekend, I'm just surprised that they didn't opt to call in their commentators like Rachael Maddow as 90% of their airtime is devoted to Trump.1 point

I wouldn't be surprised if KYW is the next O&O to fully shed the channel number from its branding. The Eye-3 logo is really only vestige of it left as they don't mention 3 at all verbally. Everything is "CBS Philadelphia" and "CBS News Philadelphia". They might as well just finish peeling off the band-aid already.1 point

More generally, how is WBBM doing in the ratings race? I like to see them putting in some effort to stand out again.1 point

I used to think that's how it worked in bigger markets journalists from competing stations being lured from a competing stations to a lower-rated station in the hope of improving their ratings by crossing over to the competition, WCBS did that with Ernie Anastos and Roz Abrams both from competing stations they were great but didn't work out ratings-wise. I thought pulling talent from competing stations in town helped the ratings for the station they're going to. WBMA-LD in Alabama when they launched in 1995, most of the talent was from other Birmingham stations Pam Huff, James Spann, etc it obviously worked for them (though it may have been that Allbritton just did a good job launching them), as most startup news departments birthed from 94-1995 television realignment have since shut down their news departments or are in last place ratings wise. So I thought if it worked in Birmingham it could work at other markets. I guess I was wrong.1 point

European done in all the wrong ways! Look at France 2's set, SVT Rapport, Yle Uutiset, TV2 Denmark have use similar ideas, big desks, curved walls, newsroom shots, and repeated colors, and pull it off 10 time better than this!0 points

Desk is nice, set is in line with their previous abstract looks but it still sucks. What is that shape? South FL? Too many video walls, way to common of a trend on tv now. Welp, at least its better than their early 2010s set The one positive is that the dark lighting masks their previously cheap looking HD. It's also better than the overly fluorescent lighting on TV these days. Other Graham stations looks way better. Wish they drew inspiration from these and added a tropical Florida touch.0 points

I remember seeing YouTube chock full of audition and demo reels of reporters/anchors/mets and now I hardly see any... And yes the ones straight from college even sound inexperienced and a lot of the time you can barely hear them.. They seem to be meek and uninspiring0 points

Always interesting to see how networks handle wall to wall coverage on a weekend which is an atypical time for major breaking events. Lester was the only lead anchor on during the Saturday afternoon Trump shooting. It appears Jose Diaz Balart was on first then Lester took over coverage. Norah and David on CBS/ABC were not on (understandable as its the weekend). Whit Johnson lead ABC, Margaret Brennan lead CBS.0 points
