  1. WBRC is lucky that they can trade on their heritage since they've been a dominant station throughout their existence. Others like Fox 8 in New Orleans, Fox 10 in Mobile, and especially Fox Carolina are going to be interesting to see how they re-brand without "FOX" in their name.

  2. In watching the debut episode of Good Night New York, I was decently impressed. I admit, I had low expectations from the start, but I think it is a good effort to create something unique and local in the daypart. The show isn't live but, more importantly, it isn't a "best of" GDNY clip show. The show is a stand-alone program with a nice naming tie to their morning show. NBC has TODAY and Tonight, and now WNYW has Good Day and Good Night. Maybe it is a bit gimmicky, but I like the tie-in. The topics aren't heavy-hitting, but I think that's ok given they are clearly going for a late-night cocktail party vibe. The graphics give a great late night vibe to the show. Overall, it is much better than I expected and I believe if they stick with it, it has the potential to evolve into a great local show.

  3. If you saw the bug on the 6 News Now intro, the Fox logo remains in the station’s logo alongside the revived ABC-era “6”. So, unless they plan to keep the network logo but deemphasize the “Fox” branding verbally or modify the logo to remove the Fox logo once the package officially launches, it seems like the “WBRC Fox 6” brand will remain in place. WVUE and WALA have kept their Fox branding after switching to the package; to date, Gray stations that have dropped network branding have usually made the change before (like with WMTV and KOSA) or when they switched to GrayONE. Fox has stricter branding guidelines than other networks, and has been pretty selective in allowing affiliates to eschew network references (like it did with WSVN, WDRB, KVRR, WFXT and, before Fox bought it and to a lesser degree, KTVU), so it’s unclear whether Gray will be given the same license to deemphasize network branding.

  5. Nexstar's DC bureau is located in the same building as NBC/FOX/C-SPAN. It possible they renovated/expanded that space for NewsNation DC ops because this view of the capital (which I assume is from real windows) is pretty much identical to Fox News DC. That said, my guess is that this is just another studio (in the same building).

  6. Would have thought that they'd make Cowboys-Browns full national instead of having those in Tampa Bay, Washington DC, and their teams' respective secondary markets see Commanders at Buccaneers instead, i know they need a second game, but it makes no sense.

  7. That's the Meredith lifestyle package. Gray kept it after the purchase and used it for their stations.

  8. He had no business getting into the news business. I feel sorry for all the stations under this division....

  9. Here's another view from the opposite angle. That's quite the panoramic multi-window view of the capitol. Does anyone know if this is the same building where NBC, Fox, and C-SPAN are located, or if this is somewhere else? And do we know if this is the same building as NewsNation's previous DC studio?

  11. WSAZ adopted the look at 4:00p as planned. New logo, kept "WSAZ 3" but dropped the "NewsChannel" part. Corners are very subtly rounded too.

  14. Also they were The WB 11 (or something similar) for the whole existence of The WB. It was after Sam Zell bought Tribune that the CW was deemphasized on all (if not most) of its CW affiliates.

  15. WPIX was branded as CW11 for the first two years of the CW, before going with the more-appropriate PIX 11 branding. WPIX, KTLA and WGN by themselves (and even St. Louis 11 for KPLR) are stronger brand names in their respective markets. But then again, look what Fox did to KCPQ once they got their hands on that station...it was goodbye Q13 (Fox), hello Fox 13.

  16. The primetime staff probably makes more than the actual channel grifting off Nexstar's national ambitions. They had that Beavis and Butthead skit on SNL and when they highlighted it on air it was pointless because NN is so undefinable and nobody outside PIX Plaza actually remembers it was supposed to be spoofing NN. But as for WGN, I hope creative just refuses outright to make the entire logo pumpkin orange.

  17. With respect, what makes you suggest they would do that? PIX11, KTLA... Evidence that the branding will not be messed with. If I had to take a gamble, Branding and logo stays the same except for a somewhat awkwardly placed CW logo to the right of the 9... Just like they did in 2006. I do however look forward to a Paul Konrad WGN Courtesy Desk bit if they do try to mess with rebranding as CW9.
