  1. Also, DirecTV subscribers will get all 3 of Disney’s direct to consumer streaming services (Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+) included in certain TV packages. This is better than the deal Spectrum got, since their subscribers only get Disney+ and ESPN+, still having to pay full price for Hulu. Thank you for not caving, DirecTV!

  2. It's not hard, it's just cheaper. I do agree that newscast voiceovers (and talent opens) add extra flavor. Look at how much Scott Chapin's voice added to WSVN or Howard Reig's raspy voiceovers for NBC.

  3. This is not a bad idea. GMA First Look would roll of the tounge better though.

  4. https://www.crossingbroad.com/2024/09/digging-up-some-details-on-jessica-kartalijas-cbs-3-departure.html This news about Jessica Kartalija leaving KYW may explain how the time slots at WCBS will work with Maurice DuBois moving to CBS EN. It looks like CBS O&Os will adopt solo anchors for the 6pm and 11pm newscasts. If Maurice keeps the dual anchoring, perhaps he will do CBS EN and the 11pm solo slot on WCBS.

  5. There are faint rumblings that CBS might not-so-subtly push solo anchors for their stations' 6 & late newscasts. Kristine is already solo at 6, and if Maurice only stays on doing like 1 show or even just special correspondent, they could certain make her the singular, lead anchor.

  6. Has WCBS or CBS News announced the future changes on air yet? Getting way ahead of myself here but.. if Maurice decides he can't pull double duty longterm, and if Lonnie's role expands, would CBS be willing to destabilize 2/3rds of its flagship station's A team to propel it's fluid flagship national broadcast. Again, big promotions but I would keep my WCBS job on the back burner since that has lasted way longer than the last few tenures at CBSEN.

  7. Just watched tonight's CBS Evening News. Maurice anchors flawlessly. Lonnie does weather perfect in their new format. Time for a change and it can't happen soon enough. May the Broadcast Center live on, it ain't broke. It's a jewel.

  8. Really nothing new. Jack Paar didn't do a show on Friday nights; that time was filled with a "Best of Paar" rerun. At one time Carson was on only three nights a week; Monday was a guest host and Tuesday a "Best of Carson." He agreed to come back on Tuesday when NBC cut the "Tonight" show to an hour in 1980. It is something of a grind to put a show like "Tonight" together, even more so when it was 90 or even 105 minutes. Carson once explained that doing his nightclub act was like a vacation because he knew exactly what he was going to do. But with a talk show, he said, you never knew if you might have to go out there and fight to "get it moving, get it cooking." Carson also took a day off when he hosted "Who Do You Trust?" and for the same reason. That show aired live Tuesday-Friday at 3:30 PM; Monday's show was taped on Friday night. The show was a talk show disguised as a game show (much like "You Bet Your Life") and here, too, Carson never knew exactly how the show was going to go. Steve Allen, the original "Tonight Show" host, cut back from five nights to three after he began his Sunday-night show that was on against Ed Sullivan. NBC wanted him to concentrate on the Sunday show; Ernie Kovacs hosted two nights a week to probably the biggest audiences he ever had. Ironically, his announcer was Bill Wendell, who announced Letterman's show until his death. Allen gave up the "Tonight Show" altogether in January 1957 and was replaced by what was essentially a nighttime version of the "Today Show" called "Tonight! America After Dark" with host Jack Lescoulie. That show bombed, opening the door for Paar. Sounds like what KABC and KGO do with World News Tonight. They carry the Eastern feed at 3:30 (PT) then the Pacific feed at 6:30. And I believe KNBC does the same thing with NBC Nightly News.

  9. WKBN and WYTV have been doing them for the past several years. Since newspapers are on the verge of extinction (and Youngstown's Vindicator is a zombie newspaper operated out of Warren) TV and web (funeral homes and legacy.com) are the main source now.

  10. I assume Raddatz was the lead will the others adding their analysis. She has more than enough experience to handle debate coverage. Karl on the other hand can be very bias. Other than that, it made sense to have this group given politics, white house, congress, etc.. is what they cover normally. While it would have been great to have Muir (and/or Davis lead), I would argue that ABC has a solid group of anchors/reporters that are fully capable to handle whatever. Honestly, he would have been fine as well. It was a debate not election night.

  11. 70 years of KOVR 13. They've been riding high ever since CBS took over and are now constantly getting into the top two of ratings in the market (obviously KCRA is the 1,000-lb gorilla that nobody else can touch).

  12. Chuck Scarborough & Sue Simmons anchoring News Channel 4's Live at 5 on 9/11. It's always interesting to see how much or how little of network coverage aired in NYC. WSVN 9/11/01. The station alternates between local coverage and fox news channel coverage. You seldom see them use any Fox News stuff now. https://youtu.be/0dH9Y7346Po?si=Fga84QO_bA8ky73s

  13. Let's see...4-11am, noon-1pm, 4-5pm, 8-10:45pm. 11 hours, 45 minutes, and that's not to mention three and a half hours of news produced for KCBS (although one of those hours is simulcast on 9). That's more than 15 hours produced each weekday by the CBS Los Angeles operation, trailing only KTLA by less than a few hours in terms of local newscasts. How much more news can 2/9 fit in, unless they go overnight (lol)?

  14. Will they consider putting more local news on this station?

  15. Agreed. Of the big 3 I think ABC is strongest in terms of on air talent. They are the weakest journalistically however, given their flare for entertainment and tabloid stories. Examples being WNT, 20/20 and GMA. While CBS is the weakest personality wise, they are the best in journalistic quality as evidenced by Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes, and CBS Mornings. NBC is a good medium between the two.

  16. * Linnert. That's a surprise. She's been there for what seemed like forever but its been 18 years at WOOD and she spent 6 before that at WLNS.

  17. ABC offered to run a 3-hour feed of last night's Presidential debates on the channels of the blacked-out ABC stations (and on the ABC channel space of DirecTV Stream) for free. DirecTV, knowing that ABC had already let the event simulcast on every major news-generating outlet in the country, rejected it out of hand and countered with a blanket reinstatement of all affected channels through the the end of next week's MNF game. https://deadline.com/2024/09/debate-blackout-lifted-directv-1236083661/

  18. I’ve never been big on David Muir but he did an impressive job last night despite the flak ABC is catching this morning. No offense to Robin but she would have been completely out of her depth leading political coverage. I think George and David both have some sort of clause that limits the other’s command of coverage for their respective day parts. Whit is good but he hasn’t done much political anchoring at ABC. Given all those, I think who they had was solid.

  19. I really think that CWMiami and CWDetroit would be "tighter." Tacking the channel number at the end is a mouthful.

  21. James Earl Jones has died. For anyone who remembers CNN's glory days...you'll know it when he said "This...is CNN." Sadly, he outlived the network as it was a viable news source thanks to Jeff Zucker onwards....

  22. Here's a free link to a Deadline article that confirms the number of stations (up to 60) as well: https://deadline.com/2024/09/sinclair-tennis-channel-ceo-ousting-dr-phil-1236080980/ Sinclair should have never have bought that many stations to begin with. Groups like Sinclair are in way over their heads right now and viewers are paying the price because of their greed, especially in markets where competitors have been consolidated and decimated.
