  1. If they were to start fresh, the perfect pairing would be Tom Llamas and Hallie Jackson. They have already displayed great and unforced chemistry during election and convention coverage (see spin room from the Rep debate hosted by NBC)

  2. Radio is IMPORTANT. Want further proof? The CBS Evening News put a spotlight on Asheville's iHeart's 570 WWNC for being a lifeline during Hurricane Helene's aftermath.

  3. All the other situations don't have an entire state congressional delegation ready to declare 'an abandonment of New Jersey' if they even hinted at doing so. Fox isn't going to make any rebranding decision outside of dropping the "My" from My9 here or even mentioning 5 (notice how their TV listings don't mention Fox 5 at all with moved-over newscasts), especially when they have WTXF's headache still going on. At this point their NY cluster's best move has been to say nothing, and they'll continue to do so.

  5. With the launch of Fox Local, most Fox-owned stations in the CTZ and ETZ now record their newscasts at 10 or 11 for live streaming on Fox Local, then airing OTA after sports (unless breaking news or weather tracking is happening of course). After so many 1am NASCAR-delayed newscasts I'm sure the Fox O&O folks are happy this is an option now. In this case though, that it's simulcast on WWOR is probably the last thing on their minds and their focus is fully on the Fox Local and after-game audiences; the My9 audience is not the focus here. Probably would be the same if WDCA was airing WTTG's 11pm. It's a corporate mandate more than it is a local decision.

  6. I'm a bit confused as to why the presence of a ticker is the metric for whether or not something counts as news. I don't recall tickers being commonplace on news channels until the 2000s. My guess is that they're being phased out because they're no longer necessary now that everyone has a smartphone with them at all times.

  7. It's good to see people who have actually been reporters elevated to positions of power in journalism. In general....Too often we have bosses, especially news directors and producers, who expect the wold. They have no idea about the timing and logistics needed to pull off field reporting and make slot because they were never reporters.

  8. Wall-to-wall coverage already popping up ahead of Hurricane Milton. Hearst's WBBH/WZVN are once again combining their teams. In this pic, you see WZVN's Jesslyn Ferentz using WZVN graphics in WBBH's studio.

  9. 4:30am newscasts are dropping across the O&Os because of CBS cuts.

  10. Probably a cost-savings move. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. Overall, they have been making moves to better position themselves moving forward, imo. Getting the jumbotron fixed, moving back to the streetside studio, getting a AR/VR weather setup and moving Baker back to sports have been huge positives. Heck... they even went as far as to replace the tv monitors in the lobby with four big new ones. Hopefully, they're not forced to make any huge personnel cuts in the near future. Sidenote: I can't help but notice that Jim's hands tend to shake/tremble a lot. I hope he's not dealing with a serious medical condition.

  11. And with so many changes happening at 2, they’ve quietly dropped their 4:30am half of the morning newscast which has been part of the morning show since it was reinstated back in 2010.

  12. Her leaving shouldn't prevent her from going to FL. The news doesn't stop, if you will. It's possible there's another reason. This event, and the VP debate pre/post-coverage, would have been an excellent opportunity to use both Maurice and John more. Not saying that Norah should be pushed to the side, but Maurice could have been on the ground in FL co-anchoring coverage and both him and John could have lead coverage on CBS News 24/7. Also, Rob Marciano (formally of ABC News/GMA) made his first appearance yesterday during CBS Evening News. ABC cut ties with him in April.

  13. It's been a taxing couple of weeks, so I can understand them working in some down time, if you will, for their respective teams (both on the ground and in studio). There's only so much that can be said/done until the storm makes landfall.

  14. Agreed. The Internet's 24/7 news cycle makes non-stop storm broadcasting somewhat unnecessary. Conversely, storm coverage is the draw factor for local stations especially in natural disaster prone areas like Florida. Unless Tampa outlets are using relaxed coverage as an opportunity to evacuate and let the staff tend to their lives, this is puzzling. Even more peculiar: the markets getting the outer effects of the storm, not the market getting landfall are going wall to wall? This might be a domino effect. Once one Tampa station decides to go nonstop, the others might follow to be competitive.

  15. Don't forget that Orlando has stations with sister stations that they can overflow to (Fox had enough time to get the DVR recordings moved from WOFL to WRBW for one, WFTV shifted to WRBQ and WESH and WBBH already pushed their schedules to their .2s). There's no point to exhaust staff until the last possible moment and outside WFLA's Nexstar trash IT having to work around Perry's 2 hour delay, all of them have robust streaming presences to push coverage to for now.

  16. Tuned in to KRON4 at 6 today and was shocked by the new graphics. Much better than their last refresh, that's for sure. But what I'm most excited for is their new music which features the familiar and iconic Instant Classics by Michael Boyd. Such a signature sound for KRON and it's great that they were able to keep it front and center even with the new theme. In this video about the music, they talk about the "four-note brand" that is definitely KRON. And it reminded me of NBC's chimes or something that, for us Bay Area folk of course, is so recognizable.

  17. As of Tuesday evening, non stop coverage in Ft Myers and Orlando, Tampa apparently not. Perhaps this is to allow station employees a chance to tend to their families and belongings?

  18. Launching a newscast at 4pm ET on a sports channel where it's ALWAYS going to be pre-empted by European soccer is just suicidal. I give it one month at minimum before it's quietly off the air once Rachel whines about soccer Twitter calling her various names and Fox Sports notices their ratings for their afternoon shows plunge (they have a live football show from Spain that's like PTI on steroids that's their baby at 6 ET).

  19. CBS News says heated Ta-Nehisi Coates interview did not meet editorial standards after criticism "CBS News executives said Monday that a heated morning show interview with acclaimed author Ta-Nehisi Coates, during which his new book was compared to “extremist” writings, did not meet the network’s editorial standards."

  20. I have to give them snaps for also incorporating an updated version of “Instant Classics” into the music that’s going along with this package. I’m starting to wonder if this becomes the new overused typeface in news graphics because it’s also reminiscent of the ones used in the recent Coxollo refresh. (WSB, WFTV, KIRO, etc.)

  21. I'm surprised as well.. It would make more sense... It's kinda like Indy's WXIN/WTTV -- they have 2 completely different news operations but share some resources... They easily could've puuled a KCBS/KCAL

  22. I'm kind of surprised that with the new graphics that there wasn't a plan for a combined logo. I get that Hearst doesn't do the "combined" branding (ex: like Gray does with Dakota News Now, Valley News Live, etc)- but something where for emergency coverage like a hurricane showed the NBC2 and ABC7 logos side by side? Is it because viewers in the area already subliminally know the two are co-owned (or more likely don't care when a Cat 5 is headed their way?)

  26. In a move shocking absolutely nobody but the most fervent Pat Sajak stans who refuse to watch Seacrest WoF and wanted to see him on CWoF, ABC will now carry Monday Night Football for the rest of the season.
