Pardon my French, but this is the kind of stuff only scumbags and Scrooges would do. Mr. Devitt has every right to sue at this point.5 points

30 years ago tonight, a refurbished and relaunched version of 7:30 began on WSVN 7 with Kelley Mitchell and Jessica Aguirre. I'm not sure if anyone has heard of it but its called... Deco Drive. An entertainment news program that fits South Florida well. I mean, its survived 30 years at this point. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1269520051663057&id=1000581522180552 points

WBBH/WZVN has beaten WINK in the ratings for a number of years now and it looks like that will continue. I see their ratings tripling over WINK with this news.1 point

Based on that reel alone, though the abc transfer happened last december, that put the final nail in the coffin of an already rotten corpse. In other words, RIP to 'WLNE' as we knew it. It never stood a chance to succeed. (probably been a minute since that clip was used for any farewell in this thread)1 point

It's management like this that makes the upcoming WFTX merger that much worse. And one of the very few cases where a national owner would be an improvement.1 point

Once the non-compete expires, could WBBH/WZVN try to grab him? If not for the WFTX situation, I would have sensed it leading into a sale.1 point

I find it hard to believe WINK's owners are liberal leaning because of a radio station called Trump Country, which by the way, I find absolutely ridiculous. And I'd say the same thing about any radio station named after any politician.1 point

Eeh IMO Scott is a solid journalist but he was a little bit stiff as host of the CBS evening news. He fits better on 60 Minutes. These old graphics look better. The new themes and set are upgrades though. The Guardian reviews Tony's first week. At the very least, Tony could not have gotten a more active news-week to launch his broadcast. In all fairness, all three network evening newscasts are shells of their former selves. David Muir's program is certainly not the best, it's just the most popular of a shaky bunch. Nightly News feels like a lesser copy of Muir and CBS is an unstable revolving door hopelessly trying to find its rhythm. If CBS was insistent on revamping the format, I wish they would've just kept Maurice as a solo anchor.1 point

Walter Cronkite, an elitist member of the Bohemian Grove masquerading as a journalist while paling around with the wealthy and powerful superelites, the voice of the Bohemian Grove owl rituals on his own volition. Bastion of honesty that one really1 point

I'm not so sure. It all looks so inconsistent and not very well thought-out. Bringing back Didot for only half the logo, and then picking a third font for the lower thirds all looks really sloppy. The open's use of pictures of Tony feels really tacky and self-serving – has any network evening news open ever done that? I love the 1991 theme, but it doesn't match the open or the tone that the overall program is taking. It feels like a really arbitrary choice. The only thing I do like is returning to a newsroom backdrop, and the Studio 47 newsroom has never looked better. It looks much brighter and busier than its most recent incarnation when used on the weekend program. But even the sleek newsroom look is all ruined with the dinky 90s desk taken out of storage.1 point

Looks more like a refresh than a full-on overhaul, and honestly it looks more streamlined. They went through the effort of making unique touchdown animations for every team this season, and those utilize a similar art style/incorporate the "hub" into them, so I wasn't expecting something new unless it were adapted for that.1 point

I'm shocked. I really am. There must and WILL be more to this story. There has to be a reason for this.1 point

I didn't want to bump it in the graphics section... Do we have an approx. update as to which station is getting the new graphics next? It's been a hot minute since the last one1 point

I know this board loves to hate everything, but I'm going to point out things I actually like. Y'all need to put these things into perspective of Tegna's history. They have never been stellar at in-house set design - Honestly, this a studio I wish WHAS would get. They are way overdue and I think were one of the first stations to get the Tegna V1 cookie cutter. - I was surprised to see graphical and musical updates (unless they've already had them and I didn't know). Not what I would expect given an impending sale to Nexstar. Also, if the music means the a Capella crap is finally done then I am all aboard. - The set, though admittedly a bit sterile, works. It might be a little dark, but overall the lighting isn't overpowering (which studio talent probably appreciates) Yes, it isn't perfect. The apparent acoustic sound panels feel slapped in there as an afterthought to break up the big white walls and may have been better if they filled the entire space (it would also have added unique texture).1 point

With the Olympics prep being a focus I can understand why they would do an early intro, so they can focus on improvements before February with these couple of playoff dry-runs. If it's anything like the NBA package I'll be fine with it.1 point

Word is now coming in that the remaining nine MLB teams are also out of FanDuel, according to ESPN. Should be noted that in KC, Miami, Milwaukee, Detriut and Tampa Bay (which has already done so), Scripps is ready to flip those Ion stations or existing indie to local "The Spot" stations to carry teams if needed (and Milwaukee also has Weigel and Fox in play). Atlanta (multiple indies, including WPCH and WANF), St. Louis (Gray's Matrix Midwest), and the Angels (the most Wild West situation; anyone's game, even including Spectrum onto the Lakers network) also have possibilities.1 point

While some newspapers are dying, a surviving one that used to be tied to a Columbus TV station is announcing a new partnership with a former rival. https://www.nbc4i.com/local-4-you/nbc4-columbus-dispatch-agreement/ Interesting in that the Dispatch properties in Columbus are now owned by Tegna (WBNS) and Gannett/USA Today (Columbus Dispatch) in what used to be the same company. But both 10TV and The Dispatch are shells of their former selves.1 point

Actually, I got another retirement... the amazing, legendary Beau Weaver. The voice of Good Day Sacramento, WPLG in my market of Miami, KDVR Denver, and others is retiring and was featured on GDS as a result.1 point

UPDATE (x2) I'll leave this for what it is. From X but it comes from @NewtGingrich. I don't know if all of this is 100% true, but if this is what he got fired for, then SHAME on WINK-TV for doing so.0 points

UPDATE (x2) As I suspected, WJAR's newscasts are now being simulcast on the new Coastal ABC. It looks like Karah Bailey (from Good Morning Providence) was the only one (as far as I'm seeing) retained by Sinclair for WJAR. Go to ABC6.com's live stream and its now airing WJAR's newscasts. https://www.facebook.com/reel/3800943630039012/?__cft__[0]=AZZo6LpD4Xnr_phIGhm9eSmFFv210VCtpyHuvl-poURyQbtj-jUyHahUTduHQFw6VhXBFvzurOVeCJJw0MKdNjt6E0i0JRSJoNQThyrKN3X5CM4oefpugqeCFmA_TczfBAXpmnfE0ul8F0Et-FpWXHAcmY9OSqilw4uDzg0PzwGyBFjLVuuq1yCCqUJiojm71AUwUU8ZU2dV-JagN0KT-3AK&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R0 points

UPDATE They may start simulcasting WJAR's newscasts very soon. I just checked ABC6.com and it hasn't been updated since Friday, WLNE's YouTube page had their last upload on Thursday, and their X and Facebook pages had an ABC6.com story posted from Friday but then, two days later, posted three hours ago (at the time of this post) with a TurnTo10.com story. My thinking is that WLNE's news operations have quietly shut down as of this weekend and could be simulcasting WJAR for local news at any moment now.0 points
