  1. People in Philly, NYC and Atlanta would disagree.

  2. People do not need to be rabid fans to recognize the brand. Brand equity and recognition matters. Sometimes of course there is a good reason to move on from a brand, but there are more cases it has far more downside risk than upside potential.

  3. The people in Raleigh-Durham (WTVD), New York (WABC), Los Angeles (KABC), Houston (KTRK), Chicago (WLS) and for Action News Philadelphia (WPVI) would disagree. I would riot if WTVD dropped the “Eyewitness News” brand they had the brand as long as I’ve been alive.

  4. It’s also an incredibly tired, dated brand. Would be insane to launch it in 2026. Fine for other markets for the sake of nostalgia I guess… but nostalgia does nothing for revenue. Would love to see it and “Action News” go away.

  5. The only accurate statement in that ad is that allowing Nexstar to buy Tegna will help MAGA. The keep "local TV local" is 100% false. Allowing Nexstar to own more "local" stations does the exact opposite of keeping them "local". The "local" stations owned by Nexstar are anything but local. All decisions for the stations are made by Nexstar. Nexstar decides what programming they air, what programming they buy, and what programming they pre-empt regardless if it makes sense for the local station or the local market. The "local" station has ZERO say in any of the decisions for the station, it's all up to Nexstar. They are forced to air far right Nexstar propaganda, forced to promote and broadcast content from the far right horribly rated disgrace known as NewsNation. A foreign company would do a better job at running local U.S. stations than Nexstar. U.S. television media is now among the worst in the world for pro-government bias. It's no different than state TV in other authoritarian countries.

  6. Weather coverage, especially with lots of snow in the South this weekend, so they need all the schedule flexibility they can get.

  8. Rabid fans, yes. People, the general public, no. All of these stations have had secondary brands for decades.

  9. Glad I’m not the only one feeling a bit sad about this. I took the long walk home today from work to go by there and it’s crazy to see it gone! Walking by the old GMA studios in TS is also stark. One of my favorite photos from outside of Peter Jennings Way.

  12. This has been in the making for weeks. It was down to Perry and Ike Ejiochi. Part of moving everyone together into the same building, studios on 4 and newsroom on 6, was to combine resources and this is an example of that. I’m sure you have all seen the frequent appearances of ABC network talent on local since the move. Most notably would probably be Aaron Katersky and Darian Sutton. Conversely, the same with weather - Lee doing WNT W-F, and Dani or Jeff doing weekend evenings. It’s all part of creative cost savings - which we all need to do as the landscape changes. Perry will continue to contribute to network 3 days a week - but eventually his role at local will grow. Some 411 - Toni does not want a regular anchor slot. She enjoys her role in NJ and being close to home. She’s always happy to help wherever needed - but she likes her weekends to spend with her boys.

  15. United Kingdom Sky News at Ten is coming to an end on Sunday after a nearly 26-year run, as well as Sky News at 11, and the separate Press Preview (10:30 and 11:30pm) programs. Instead, its being replaced by a new two-hour program called The Wrap from 10pm-12 midnight. Anna Botting, who's been at Sky News for as long as I've been alive (30 years), will anchor Mondays-Thursdays with Gillian Joseph (celebrating 25 years at Sky News this year) anchoring Fridays-Sundays. https://news.sky.com/story/sky-news-to-launch-new-late-night-show-the-wrap-hosted-by-anna-botting-and-gillian-joseph-13496168
