  1. GMA, Today, and The Early Show had been streetside for 12+ years by the time WABC debuted their corner set. At a local level, 3 stations in Chicago were in streetside space before WABC. Fox29 in Philly also comes to mind, predating New York. Revolutionary? Hardly.

  2. Weather coverage, especially with lots of snow in the South this weekend, so they need all the schedule flexibility they can get.

  3. People do not need to be rabid fans to recognize the brand. Brand equity and recognition matters. Sometimes of course there is a good reason to move on from a brand, but there are more cases it has far more downside risk than upside potential.

  4. People in Philly, NYC and Atlanta would disagree.

  5. The only accurate statement in that ad is that allowing Nexstar to buy Tegna will help MAGA. The keep "local TV local" is 100% false. Allowing Nexstar to own more "local" stations does the exact opposite of keeping them "local". The "local" stations owned by Nexstar are anything but local. All decisions for the stations are made by Nexstar. Nexstar decides what programming they air, what programming they buy, and what programming they pre-empt regardless if it makes sense for the local station or the local market. The "local" station has ZERO say in any of the decisions for the station, it's all up to Nexstar. They are forced to air far right Nexstar propaganda, forced to promote and broadcast content from the far right horribly rated disgrace known as NewsNation. A foreign company would do a better job at running local U.S. stations than Nexstar. U.S. television media is now among the worst in the world for pro-government bias. It's no different than state TV in other authoritarian countries.

  6. It seems the stations that still have the old package are stuck with it because of the old graphics systems. The weather graphics are different because it's a totally different platform. Same with the promo graphics package that marketing gets. You would have thought they would made a "GrayOne" package for the stations still on the old CG, but it looks like the package they're using is the one for the holdouts. Likely a purely business decision, since the systems haven't reached "retirement age" and that the day to replace them is still years away in a future capital expense...

  7. WWL is finally getting into the hour-long 4:00 p.m. news game, 16 and a half years after WDSU launched it for New Orleans in 2009, and 14 and a half years after WVUE did the same in 2011. Devin Bartolotta will anchor the new hour at 4:00 while Katie Moore and Charisse Gibson (two longtime veterans at WWL; Katie's 20 years this year and Charisse's 16 years this year) will continue at 5:00, 6:00 (Charisse also solo anchors at 6:30 on WUPL), and 10:00 p.m. It begins next Monday, January 26th, and will push Family Feud back to an hour earlier at 3:00 p.m. https://www.nola.com/news/wwl-afternoon-newscast-new-orleans/article_1a54e64b-b5d8-4fce-8fe0-ebf8e1369f45.html

  8. Probably because now the Nats don't have to keep fighting over a Orioles-dominated network and have the Orioles continually go after them on carrying their games.

  9. Re Kev's suspension... This is why I am VERY cautious on what gets uploaded to the AVTB YT after losing thousands of videos on my personal accounts in March 2021. Most entire sitcoms w/ commercials are off the table entirely, unless there is nowhere else to put them (and I'd rather they go on the Archive instead). Soaps too, most go to Archive except for the Sony/Bell soaps, which sit in my personal hard drive for anyone to enjoy...they can't be enjoyed online for a general audience. With all the Roku channels, why hasn't Sony launched Classic Y&R, Classic Days of Our Lives, Classic B&B, Classic Wheel, and Classic Jeopardy! channels yet for streaming? I mean...you can watch Family Feud all day long, same w/ Supermarket Sweep. Maybe instead of hiding them from the general public and taking down any uploads from those who are trying to preserve these episodes for nostalgic purposes, launch a bunch of streaming channels or even work with a subscription service (like Paramount+) to release classic soaps to long-time fans. My mother would LOVE classic Y&R episodes available at any time. P&G has left ATWT/GL alone, for the most part, on the other hand.

  10. Bill Beutel and Roger Grimsby were a pair for almost 16 years. Your point? Just because management has gone with same-sex pairs in the past, doesn’t mean that that’s what they were looking for here. Also, the Diana Sade pairing didn’t exactly come about because there was an opening and they decided they wanted two females to anchor together. Diana decided she wanted to scale back her schedule so they moved her to the 5 PM, pairing her with the more senior anchor of Roz Abrams, and pushing aside the junior anchor of Rob Hanrahan, and then when Roz left, she was replaced by Sade who just prior was brought in without a show to anchor and displaced Lori at noon. Anyway, I didn’t say it was definitively the reason, just a possibility.

  11. Nice of Maurice to add a bit of Murrow at the end. Good luck to those two.
