  1. I doubt that this administration would force Skydance to divest cable channels. They'd probably be in favor of Skydance keeping everything.

  3. On the subject, a Roger Grimsby obituary from World News Now (1995) just to mind. Kevin Newman basically said that though 1970 clips of WABC Eyewitness News looked similar to '95 newscasts, it set the standards for modern formatting. Anyway back to graphics...

  6. My guess is the first thing they get rid of are the smaller (non-top 10) CBS O&O's.

  7. This morning, Frank read a statement acknowledging the layoffs on air saying that it was limited as to what he could say and that KTLA is a family and they are hurting. No names were mentioned in the statement.

  8. The same week that Nexstar cut 17 (at last count) high-profile on-air talent at their three largest stations, now we're getting word from our online & Nexstar sources that sweeping cuts are now being made across any and all Creative Services departments. Number of people and/or stations being impacted are still unclear, but this all appears to be part of cost reductions as the company looks to ram through complete its acquisition of the Tegna group stations. I'll post more details when I hear it.

  9. I can't personally defend this branding decision. However, I have several friends/past coworkers who are from New Mexico - it is DEFINITELY one of those places where, for some reason, the originally assigned area code is part of what people use as part of the local identity. Even if they are from areas that were split off into the other area code a while back. I've never understood the area code as part of the local identity anywhere, but it definitely is a thing that exists in some communities and Nexstar must have felt it was strong enough there to work as a brand.
