  1. Guess I'm in the minority of not hating Gayle. She has her ways about her but she's not all that bad. Perhaps I'm overstating Gayle's importance but isn't she the identifying factor of the show? A lot of people know what That CBS Morning Show is because Oprah's friend Gayle King is on. Replacing her with a CBS random doesn't carry that same name recognition factor that Robin Roberts, fomerly Hoda -- and especially now --- Savannah have.

  2. Any Fort Myers only branding would alienate a large portion of the potential audience. Fort Myers isn’t the largest city in the DMA. Cape Coral is the largest city in the market by far. Lehigh Acres, which isn’t an incorporated city, also has more people than the city of Fort Myers. That said, there are large portions of unincorporated Lee County that have a Fort Myers mailing address. As for Fox Florida… if the domain name is available and no one else is branding that way, why not? Less is more. 10 letter domain name. Two words. Alliteration. Says what the product is, still a clear change and a clean slate from the Fox4 News brand the WINK/Sun McSchwartzel leadership team wants people to forget was a thing.

  3. I’m certain most people know her as Oprah’s best friend more than the morning show she’s on. If as many people knew or cared about her as she seems to think then it would reflect in the show’s viewership. And it has not. I don’t have any particularly strong issue with her other than that she’s always seemed pompous and full of herself. Her statement on her contract is embarrassingly petulant for a 70 year old woman, especially when she seemed incredibly insecure about her own standing just a few months ago.

  4. Again... why?!?! They barely cover a fraction of the state?!?! I would see this more for WOFL or heck even WSVN

  5. Two retransmission revenue streams (minus the cut network gets), two stations worth of advertising revenue with the opportunity to bundle both stations to advertisers, operating cost/scale advantages over the other single station operators in the market. Realistic added costs: Power bill for second transmitter, programming costs, maybe a handful of WTVQ staffers added to WLEX employee headcount post closing.

  6. Both CNN and CBS News are shells of the brands they used to be, but data doesn't lie. CNN has 42 Million Facebook followers compared to the 11 Million for CBS News (hell, even FOX News only has 33 million followers on FB). Also (according to Google Gemini) CNN.com attracts 100-150 Million unique visitors each month, CBSnews.com draws some 87 Million visitors. Long story short, CNN still has solid value and recognition as a brand- despite what their broadcast ratings show.

  7. From what I've read, the font used by many Nexstar stations is actually "Wix Madefor Text". Link for the font: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Wix+Madefor+Text

  8. It's been a problem for years. WOIO employees have had to deal with many of the same issues including rat infestations, being harassed by vagrants, and even the heat going out earlier this year. Gray really messed up by not pursuing the new studios in Independence. And in hindsight, they should have moved in with WUAB on Day Drive in their purpose-built studios way back when they merged. Parmatown may have been booming back then, but it emptied out soon enough as all of the action shifted to Strongsville and South Park mall... 30 years ago, Reserve Square was high-class living, and even had fancy commercials on the radio on how swank it was to live "in the heart of the city". Sounds like little has been done to keep it viable as more people are moving downtown. It may as well be a section 8 development in it's current state.

  10. For what it's worth... no station groups are licensing their fonts. Hearst did try with Effra, but I am sure that completely got out of hand to enforce. At TEGNA, you can install Proxima Nova on any machine via an IT admin workaround that they built... and I am sure that they were not reporting back to the font foundry with a user count. I think it's this https://www.myfonts.com/collections/infra-font-fontfont/

  13. CBS has blown up every element of the morning show since "Early" gave way to CTM/Mornings- the studio (from the unique setup from the Charlie/Erica/Gayle days, to Times Square, to whatever they have now), the "news is back in morning news" format to the same thing Today/GMA are doing... The one thing they have not traded out is Gayle. I'm not saying that doing so will send them on a rocket ship in the ratings, but you've swapped out every other element more than once...

  14. This woman is so damn insufferable. The speculation “of her demise” was coming from the CBS Broadcasting Center which she seemed to understand fairly well when she was arguing with paparazzi outside the building a few months ago. Her statement is true to form with her pathetic character.

  15. Indeed. And let it not be said companies have not made moves that in hindsight were kind of stupid. But whatever one may think of the new owners (and I fall into the “not remotely a fan”’camp), the odds they are dumb enough to axe that brand are next to nil. That is not to say they can’t or won’t mess around (even more than they already have) with the content and can’t or won’t do more cross-pollination, but there is no way in heck they’re killing the brand itself.

  16. That would be stupid to get rid of a highly recognized global brand.

  17. Nah. Just consolidation, but the branding is too powerful.
