  1. They need to pay the good ones more! I still miss Meghan Packer and Hillary Lane. I'm actually surprised that Jamie Stover is still around, she is really good and has gotten better I think in the past year than she ever was.

  2. Has anyone else noticed that they label everything as "Breaking News"? It just occurred to me tonight, and now I can't stop noticing it. Every. Single. Story. "BREAKING NEWS." Why? An update from a story days ago isn't breaking news, it's an update.

  3. WCVB commercials from Sunday, June 19, 1994, during ABC's Sunday Night Movie. Includes a NewsCenter5 update with Anthony Everett at 9:24.

  4. From November 2004, the first KYW newscast with their WNBC-esque Pyburn Films package. Plus I let the recording go over at the end, so you get to see some WPVI circa 2004:

  5. Dispatch and DIRECTV still haven't reached a deal. On 10TV News a few weeks ago, they even suggested affected viewers get an antenna to pull in WHIO out of Dayton for Bengals games. Saw an ad during the Y&R station break from WBNS urging viewers to get Spectrum, WOW, or use an antenna. This is the LONGEST i've seen negotiations stall

  6. My point is that new ownership of WPHL (be it Sinclair, Fox, or whoever) would likely spell the end of 6abc's production of it.

  7. Would be nice to see some KNXV from this era, too... Then again, given what's been uncovered, who knows.

  8. As a kid growing up in Northern VA, today's a bittersweet day. I was never 100% loyal to any news channel, but when it snowed, I always loved watching Doug Hill, especially because I thought the "ABC7 Snow Machine" was the coolest thing ever. Best wishes in your retirement, Doug! Feel free to come back and bring Bob Ryan with you when it snows again!

  11. So this video is interesting if only to note that KOAT was still using the John Christopher Burns graphics but the desk on their set had hints of the Hearst package to come...

  12. Here's more rare KOAT in the 1980s. It includes a news close using "Where You Belong" by TM Productions at 4:32 and a news open from 1983 at 4:54. The open from 1983 features an unknown news theme.

  13. Incomming Rant... Can NBC please stop forcing/tricking guests who clearly don't like nor want to be with Megyn Kelly on her show? If I were MK, I would rather have no celebrity guests that day or maybe interview a politician or newsmaker or fellow journalist about current events instead. There's too much celebrity stuff and it's clearly not in her wheel house and now it's causing PR issues. I defended the Debra Messing thing on Monday cause it was only a joke, but I can't defend the Jane Fonda debacle today. The producers and/or MK clearly did not vet the Q's cause Jane seemed like she only wanted to talk about her movie. After this week, what Hollywood agent is going to put their clients on MK? It's better to have no guest or guests that actually don't mind being there instead of guests who look forced to be. NBC needs to tone down the celebrity gaga that MK is clearly not comfortable with and have on more news making and yes, political guests. How is it that "The View" can do this but not the woman who made a name for herself interviewing politicians and newsmakers. Politicians are used to interrogating like questions, not celebrity's who will bash you later on Twitter. I really do see potential in the show but not if they can't utilize MK's strengths. End Rant.

  14. 3 people died working on the WSVN/WPLG tower. http://wsvn.com/news/local/3-dead-after-falling-from-television-tower-in-miami-gardens/ (as an aside, the reporter seems very uncomfortable. repeated himself a lot)

  18. :53 seconds to say good bye after 20 years of service... He deserved a lot more time. And to add insult to injury he has to toss back to the lady that was in diapers 20 years ago. Good luck Drew...enjoy the normal life.

  19. It's a lot easier now with the net to cross reference with newspapers and air checks. Most stations made a daily aircheck starting with the 1/2in and U-Matic formats....so you can cross reference much easier with the net and even some crowd sourcing. The fun part is you become a video detective. If there is no info in the film can then you have to go with what you see. it's pretty simple because the 1950's thru the 1980's there was not a huge amount of film or tape that made air...there was a lot less filmed and taped(edited) content. Plus you only have to log and transfer the local events because the network stuff was not saved locally in most cases. It's like those retired detectives that return from retirement to work "cold" cases. A serious news viewer in a market for the last 30-40 years would find it to be a cakewalk since they know who all the local "players" big stories have been over the years.

  21. Fun fact: when this newscast aired in 1997, KPHO was using the slogan "Local, Live, Late-Breaking," while KNXV was using "Live, Local Late-Breaking." BTW, unusual to have chopper coverage on a Saturday.

  22. A hunk of WYOU from 1994: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=0pKl-mEHfbQ;t=99 From the Phoenix Faucet, some KTVK news teases and syndie show promos from 1988. I believe the end tags on the Oprah and Donahue promos are voiced by Tony Evans: ...And it's time for Arizona 5 News at 6:
