  1. They’ve (finally) replaced the AccuWeather/EWN duratrans with an actual screen. This is the backdrop that appears behind the weather anchor area of the main news desk.

  2. I'm still trying to get my jaw off the floor and I'm halfway through that video compilation. Not just the KTVK stuff but the co-owned MAC America properties (Phoenix Magazine, KE(S)Z, etc. (Also, several Steve Wood-voiced ads, before he began working with Cox and by extension half our local TV advertisers...)

  3. All the creative work of Richard Holland. Mainly 1986-87 to 1996-97. I liked the short at the end featuring Del and Jewell Lewis, Bill Miller, and the rest of MAC America's management, explaining their growth potential (which didn't come to be after the sold KTVK in 1999).

  4. From Phoenix, a treasure trove of KTVK promos from the '80s, '90s, and '00s, including many never seen before online:

  5. Maybe the hit was non-sponsored and the producer took the time back for other news. Are the shows even sold out right now?

  6. Mid America's Leading News Station! WOWT from 1986 with a pretty epic open. The music must have debuted in the early '80s based on the John McCaa news clip

  7. I thought Norah's debut was excellent. As an employee of various CBS affiliates since 1996, I think this is the best Evening News has looked and felt in quite a while.

  8. There are WAY too many OTS shots. It seems to be the only thing they used in that show. With Glor, they insisted on using the same monitor effects shot over and over. I don't get it. You see more variety of shots in a typical local news broadcast. When Pelley anchored I felt like they used the studio well. The new lighting and feel of the set differentiates it nicely from CTM. I don't really understand all the NYC imagery they're using considering the broadcast is moving to DC soon. I really like the updates to the theme music so far.

  9. I’m fully expecting CBS to hold auditions for Norah’s replacement if they’re not somehow the #1 newscast starting today.

  10. The Infamous Disco Demolition Night at Old Comiskey Park, 40 years ago tonight... WLS coverage from that night... WMAQ & WBBM... More WBBM, from the following night...

  11. Despite switching to Overture by this time, KSTP still used the beeps from its News Image/Leading Edge days to open its news and, in this instance, the severe weather crawl. I still get goosebumps when I hear this teletype effect.

  12. WFIQ/APT Station ID from 1985. I got some various APT promos that I still need to upload but this is a start. WIPB Channel 49 Station ID (1985) KSTP Severe Weather Crawl circa 2001.

  14. 15. I would like to remind everybody that Monday of next week, it would be two years ago, July 22... it was the day that Washingtonian's lost WRC NBC 4's Jim Vance. Take the time to remember him, and re-look back at his career next week.
