  1. The anthem isn't the problem. It's how OTHERS have polarized it and used it as a tool to test one's "America-ness." That's a right that NO ONE can take away from anyone. EVER. We live in a country where we are free to be patriotic and free to question the powers that be for what they are doing. All this noise is simply because the ideals our country was founded on are alive and well. And it should be pointed out that a certain other company that works the flag into their graphics and ladens their news product with propaganda hasn't picked up on this proud American broadcast tradition.

  2. On September 23, WKYC is changing their 6pm newscast from "Channel 3 News at 6" to "What Matters Most." Saw it in another promo.

  6. Interesting i'm all for local TV innvation, but whatever they do, it better be good. Their new director of news content, Adam Miller, ran the 4th hour of the Today Show before he came to WKYC. So- I think it'll be good. Can you post some of the promos?

  7. Anchor/reporter Chris Emma and weekend anchor Nick Emmons. They've apparently been wiped from the bio page. With such poor ratings, it sounds like one of the newer bosses is looking for scapegoats, but not without some headbutting in the front office.

  10. I mean both stations were apple & oranges back when WAGA was CBS. Despite the numerous ownerships WAGA was solid. It slipped to third a few times, but was able to rebound. WGNX was an Indy outlet that just got a news department 30 years ago late 88/89, and WGNX got the CBS affiliate at the 11th hour, and as time went on. Tribune was only interested in being independent. When WGNO & WGNX started to get a network affiliation. They didn't do too much investment, but WGNX was solid. As for Meredith, they bought the station with hopes of making it something big. However, when numerous management styles, name branding etc. It just hasn't done much for WGCL. Meredith should return the WGNX call letters back to them and sell the station, and start all over like WIAT in Birmingham did in late 90s.

  12. Some markets are like that... they will use Channel x or just the number when referring to a station. The ABC7 thing shouldn’t be a one size fits all if it really doesn’t fit with the market or the audiences attitudes towards the station very well. Channel 7 emphasizes the local aspect... ABC7 emphasizes that they are abc and the 7 is secondary to that so it’s really all about who the audience is and how you want to present the station’s identity to that audience.

  13. I have a feeling they will continue to use this music until they switch to the new building. The music is good, just wish they could use more of their package. I’ve always preferred the “ABC 7” branding better than the “Channel 7” but I doubt that ever change lol. I think they should rebrand themselves as ABC 7 for consistency especially since their website is called “ABC 7 NY”. I feel like saying “Channel Seven” in 2020 is like so dated. They switched back to the “Channel 7” branding in 2004. I remember we had a big discussion on that back then on this site haha. I remembered one of the arguments was that the word “Chan-nel” was easier to say than “A-B-C”. Flows better, less syllables. Another argument was the audience, older folks especially the baby boomers and native New Yorkers whom watch the broadcast call it “Channel 7”. Where in conversation they would say; “Yo, did you see that story on Channel Seven? That was Crazy!” Lol. With that New Yawk accent haha. Out of curiosity, I’ve always wondered, does anyone know if they include Sam Champion for the Friday talent Morning and Noon opens since Sam does not work on Fridays?

  14. It's not a political discussion Roly. It's a discussion about the broadcasting of the national anthem, and the history behind it. The fact that a station owner or group chooses to play the national anthem DOES NOT make that group or owners automatically part of any one political party or belief. Nothing wrong with showing we are all proud Americans. If Roly wants to decide what threads should be locked, then he should apply to be a moderator.

  15. Hey, I know that this topic can often stray into the political, but the political opinions that result often can become germane to the topic at hand.

  16. It's what kind of ticks me off about this forum. If you don't like Trump or whatever, that's a valid thought, I think a lot of people don't really like him. But a lot of people here seem to dislike the idea of anything like playing the national anthem, because of whatever reason it might be. I don't think playing the SSB is anywhere near nationalism, and it really bugs me that people think this way, that somehow being proud of where you live is a bad thing.

  18. Don't know how she sunk the ship when she was at 19 in Cleveland & KMOV. WGCL has been a titanic ever since Meredith bought them over 20 yrs ago.
