  1. This logo actually reminds me of the logo they had in the last years under Jefferson-Pilot/Lincoln if anything.

  3. Let me throw my 2 cents in here right quick: It takes a dedicated news anchor team to work weekday mornings and weekend mornings. For some of you guys that are bickering about Michelle working mornings and Shirleen working PM's right now is not going to happen. Are they both great journalists (YES), and they both have a cult following. So I say this, sometimes things work out the way they are and what is not broken doesn't need to be fixed. Let's just enjoy the moments for now until both anchors return to their regularly scheduled slots.

  4. This is an improvement. I never cared for the old logo... it was a bastardization of the 2003 logo.

  5. I guess "Wake Up Central" as in, KTHV is central to waking up. Question: Who is number one in the AMs in Little Rock?

  7. If you live in places like Mobile and Rochester, NY it'd be a good idea to get an antenna because (and I hope I'm wrong and this dispute gets resolved soon) I see no end in sight with this ongoing dispute

  8. Who would be acceptable to be seen "hanging out" with? Milo probably takes 500 selfies a day, with all types of people. Would you approve if it was Rachael Maddow? Most tv types who spend all day in the field are gonna have photos and selfies from all kinds of newsworthy folks. I'm gonna side with Ellen on this one. https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2019/10/08/ellen-degeneres-george-bush-times-shes-addressed-critics/3906283002/ ...and just "who" determines credibility of a news organization? Some group of pointy bearded types? Or does the viewer decide?

  10. The old 5 was a bit out of date, but the new logo looks so painfully generic it could be in a movie.

  11. They went with the WXIX version of the open. More stations should use it, it looks better than WMC's version.

  14. Let’s be honest the chemistry between Steve, Lori and Bill was great.. they all just flowed well together kind of like Greg and Rosanna.. some people just “mesh” well.. it’s hard to find. I really wanted Jeff Rosen to get Steve’s position when that happened.. but Ken was obviously a great choice.. I agree with previous posts where Michelle should’ve gotten the morning show.. Shirleen would do well at like 4:00.. if an anchor shake up we’re to happen I wouldn’t mind seeing Shirleen moved a bit later.

  17. It's weird because the previous FTN studio was perfectly serviceable for the Evening News and was only a year or so old - and IIRC Norah anchored EN from there a couple times and it looked really good. An 11PM or otherwise late national news won't work - too many are in bed by that hour and it would probably need to be "edgy" to have a snowball's chance. What I do think would work is someone expanding their evening newscast to an hour each night, so there's more opportunity to produce and air stories with depth and not try to jam everything most of the public already knows into 90 second packages--basically put on a watered down 60 Minutes, but every night. That's basically what Scott Pelley's Evening News was, and even in a 30 minute slot it was excellent. As the syndication market falters and more programming's coming in-house, I wonder what network would have the guts to try it. CBS, honestly, is a prime candidate. Their syndie arm just dropped the Insider and while Inside Edition filled the hole in a lot of markets, that time could absolutely be spent putting better content on the air. I bet plenty of station groups would love to not have to pay for another half-hour of programming for their stations.

  18. Interesting idea to move the Evening News to a different time slot, but I'm not sure if it would be better. I imagine most people have heard the news of the day by that point, and are more interested in relaxing with entertainment content before bed, rather than news. I wonder what it would be like if primetime across the country moved from 7pm-10pm, local news 10-11pm, then network news at 11pm, with the late shows at 11:30pm? Anyways, despite whatever reason people may claim is the problem with CBS in the short term, I think it's really much simpler. Do you really think people are not tuning in to CBS because 20 years ago something happened that most people aren't even aware of? I don't think so. While there may be a few specific reasons CBS Evening News is struggling against its competitors, I think it just comes down to the fact that TV news is slowly dying. Yeah, that sucks for "us" as fans or myself personally, it being my career. But society and culture is changing, and TV news is losing out to other methods to get news and to other ways people want to spend their free time. Some organizations are experimenting (Tegna) to see if there is something they can produce that consumers want....maybe they'll strike gold, but currently I don't see that happening. Ultimately, I view TV news like a landline phone. Slowly dying. Some people still have one and enjoy it, but others have dropped it and moved on to other options. Then there's others that will never use one because there are better, more attractive, more convenient options (cell phones, internet), so they will never want a landline. Which means there is almost nothing landline providers can do to attract people unless society/culture shifts in some way to prefer landlines again, which doesn't seem likely.

  19. I kind of don't see CBS wanting to repeat the mistake of filling 10PM hour Monday-Friday with CBS Evening News much like a decade ago how NBC filled 10PM hour Monday-Friday with Jay Leno's failed prime-time talk show. Plus, I don't think CBS would want to cancel its news show anytime soon. Things to remember is: (1) Many TV viewers have lost faith in local and national news organizations for a multitude of reasons. (2) CBS has never fully recovered from the mid 90s affiliation switch, where CBS lost affiliates (in Atlanta, Austin, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Milwaukee, Phoenix, and Tampa Bay) to Fox, as well as additional switches that took place in Baltimore, Boston, Denver, Philly, Sacramento, and Salt Lake City about that same time. (3) And whether it's Scott Pelley, or Jeff Glor, or Norah O'Donnell anchoring, or if CBS were to pick a name like Shephard Smith or Ann Curry, ratings aren't going to improve overnight. This will take time.

  20. IF they were to ever move 'Evening News,' there's no way in hell an hour (or even 30 minutes) of primetime gets dumped. COULD they consider shifting it to 7 ET/6 CT? Sure, but I believe a station or two out east just ended longtime 6:30 local newscasts so they could carry 'EN' at it's normal airtime, likely at the network's recommendation. CBS isn't moving it anywhere. They'll cancel it altogether, before they reschedule.

  23. They just never got along and unfortunately that kind of stuff came out in the press. They never specified what were the spats. Bill denied them to the press as well. Roesgen was 29 when she was hired by WABC, kind of this flashy young anchor to replace Kaity Tong, who had been forced out unfairly when they didn't renew her contract. I don't get the sense that Bill liked that flashy kind of personality next to him. Having worked with Kaity Tong, Roger Grimsby, Ernie Anastos, John Johnson and other real professionals with less flare, Susan was likely a different style. Regardless, she was gone by August 1, 1992. She made $175,000 a year in her stint with WABC compared to Kaity, who was making $600,000. Ratings at WABC actually had gone 10% up with Susan, which means it was not ratings related at all. Ultimately, this led to Diana WIlliams getting the 11 pm slot with Beutel and Harry Martin getting the weekend slot. Rest is history as you can say.

  25. Brazil's Record TV, just one year after they last renovated their news set, they decided to tear it down, remove the working newsroom, since it was pretty empty during primetime and build an entirely new set for their flagship newscast, Jornal da Record, which launched last night, with the addition of four short bulletins throughout the day, called Jornal da Record 24 Horas. Here's how the flagship 9:30pm BRT newscast looks like: The first-ever Jornal da Record 24 Horas bulletin (0:30am BRT edition - JR 24H also has bulletins at 11:40am, 4:45pm and 5:45pm): And how JR used to look like: And the close from the temporary green-screen set, last Friday:
