  1. I like the graphics. Surprised some are saying that it's a downgrade from the previous look. There should be plenty of tweaks before the 2020 NFL season begins and as they make their way to other properties, I think.

  2. I'm curious to know how KSHB's big complicated logo will look with these lower thirds, or if they'll use the generic 41 with a peacock that's been springing up on their platforms lately.

  3. Because it's a remnant of the previous package.

  4. Just for fun, here's a bagful of mic flags from Nexstar at the Super Bowl. They will have done more than 1,600 live shots by the end of Sunday.

  5. I'm in the almost certain minority who likes the look because it actually looks like sports. The touchdown animation is definitely too huge if you have a smaller TV, but I'm thinking they're aiming for the audience that has huge 4K screens. Here's what I will say - FOX is definitely downconverting to 720P for the OTA audience, and it showed the most during the halftime show. Completely horrendous picture quality during that.

  6. Yes, we sent our own team and did our own live shots, as well as a few for the Kansas/Missouri Nexstar stations. KRON and KTXL both sent their own crews. Nexstar assembled a team for the rest of the group, one set of reporters doing morning lives, and the other doing evening lives. They were doing live shots on three different paths simultaneously.

  7. Somebody got a picture of a control truck with the new look.

  8. I'm a fan of the new look overall. The previous look was too bland and did not present the energy that you think of when you think of Fox. The touchdown graphics are definitely huge but do the trick if you're watching in a bar and not directly in front of a screen.

  9. Good WVUE needs it after all there hard times they need it, especially a new set.

  10. My gripe is that none of this feels like Fox. A cheap NBC style, unorthodox like ESPN, though I still don't hate it. I could live with the touchdown animation, but those comic book-looking illustrations of the players are so stupid, especially since they don't have renderings of some players. Luckily, that's a very specific thing that could be too complicated to replicate league-wide.

  11. What... wow. What do I even say? There's no doubt that this package was a downgrade. But I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. Like, poor man's NBC bad. Literally nothing in this new package makes sense. The italics, the angularity, the gradients - everything - there's no depth or consistency. The animations are so out-right comical, it always make you question, why? We shouldn't have ended up here with all of that accumulation from the previous two packs. It's like they stepped two decades back in sports presentation. At this rate I'm honestly worried if NBC and Fox brought back the stereotypical design trends of the early 2000's that they've fought for so long to ditch. This... this is bad news.

  12. Given the direction the NFL might be taking when the current TV contract expires that actually does make sense for Fox to have an actual NFL package rather than just a package tailor made for the NFC

  13. The scoring animations are corny. It's like it came from a '90s video game.

  14. WKRG's mic flag is old, they replaced it when they changed to the CBS package 2 years ago. For as penny-pinching a company Nexstar is, you would think that buying a single electronic LED mic flag that you could instantly change the logo on would be more cost effective than shipping and changing out hundreds of mic flags....

  15. Fox just aired a brief bumper during Road To The Super Bowl.

  16. It looks an awful lot like ESPN's CFB design

  17. In anticipation of Fox's new graphics package, here's a look at the NFL on Fox scorebugs through the years, courtesy of a DeviantArt user. I'm partial to the 2006-2009 bar. It had a nice, clean look. The only thing it was missing was the timeout indicators, which came with the next package.

  19. 1983 Week 11 Seattle/St. Louis NFL broadcast on NBC, from the old Busch Stadium in St. Louis (preceded by a full edition of NBC's NFL '83 pregame show w/Len Berman, Pete Axthelm, Bill Macatee, Dave Marash and Ahmad Rashad; the first time I've ever seen that season's NFL pregame show from NBC)

  20. I know that DISH has a new agreement with the legacy COX stations from March 2019, thus I'm leading to believe that the issue with the NWB stations either merging them into the COX agreement or making a new agreement with all the Apollo stations. I also wonder whether the prolonged NWB/AT&T dispute in 2019 resulted in a agreement that included all the Apollo stations.

  21. There really aren’t must runs like Sinclair or Nexstar. They just have the DC reports, National Investigations (which isn’t often) and now Rossen Reports (which appear to be really short <1 minute).

  24. DANG! The Cancellation Bear gets cancelled. A unlikely victim of the Tribune acquisition, TV By the Numbers: https://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/more-tv-news/the-end/ So unfortunate, but I guess Marc Berman will be my go-to for morning after primetime ratings releases for now on.

  25. Big retirement in Houston. Bill Balleza left KPRC Friday night after 4 decades. He joined the station in 1980 as an anchor/reporter and had been the primary evening anchor since 1990. Here’s his farewell ... https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2020/02/01/final-farewell-bill-balleza-thanks-all-those-who-helped-throughout-his-40-year-career-at-kprc-2/
