  1. The joke’s on them. This actually makes the games more accessible than they were on Bally

  2. Raycom was producing the ACC games that aired on Bally, they just used Bally’s onscreen graphics for presentation purposes Interesting that 2 ACC homes markets (Pittsburgh and atlanta) don’t currently have a CW affiliate….Nexstar better start making some calls

  3. Nah, for the most part this is returning quite a few stations to the Saturday status quo they had for at least a couple decades where they'd carry ESPN+ (the old regional sports version) or Raycom coverage. This should have been done back to when UPN was carrying XFLI games but the weekend syndie hour show market hadn't yet hard-crashed. They might be the thinner matches, but it's still college football on Saturdays and basketball on weeknights. It's better than Nielsen scratch-athons the 55th episode of dead sitcoms or Byron Allen filler... ...and this package will affect his HBCU coverage for the next season. Expect that to bump exclusively to MyNet affiliates and subchannels if it was on a CW station last year. Of course this is contingent on the CW renewing SInclair, which is still quite in limbo.

  5. I'm amazed that Raycom Sports (now part of Gray) will be producing the games. Nexstar and Gray, while two big broadcast companies, are about as far apart as can be when it comes to things like cable, digital and OTT...

  6. This definitely came from the Bally contract they ended up voided earlier this year.

  8. Ben Atkins is at it again. There is a lot here, so it's worth unpacking — I had to go deep diving into Back Stage once more! Editel/Boston was established in 1988 when Scanline (which had Editel studio companies in other cities) acquired Century III Teleproductions, which had offices in Boston and Orlando. Century III was a prolific producer of music, animation (through its Digital Images division), and other design/media services in New England. The fact that Ben has labeled this Editel tells me the tape was possibly compiled in 1988, but the material in it seems to be more 1987. The notable things on here are: An image package for WVIT, "Connecticut's NBC Station", and (at 10:07) the WVIT 1987 theme from when they rebranded as Connecticut News, titled here as "The News". I believe the actual launch date for both of these is in 1986; the image and logo debuted in June, and the news theme debuted when Toby Moffett joined WVIT in November. An image package for WGOT in New Hampshire, which would be from its launch in August 1987. A syndicated news package titled Window on the World, better known in the NMSA as WDEF 1987. This is credited to "CIII Audio" (took a fair amount of digging to realize why C3 turned up no hits). A sung image set for WCVB, titled "Tune to the Ears, Tune to the Eyes". The open music adopted by the Boston Red Sox on WSBK in 1987, dubbed here as "Target". Digital Images produced this open. "Latitudes", a syndicated music and graphics package for independent stations produced for WXIN in 1987. WGNT, KMSS, KWKT, and other stations used elements from this. We know that in 1987, CIII Audio launched syndicated music packages through Digital Images to sell to stations, first shown at the BPME/BDA conference in Atlanta, and that they did customs for WVIT, WLVI, WCVB, and WNEV in just that time period. (This opens up some really unusual Pandora's boxes: WCVB 87? WNEV 87 + KCBS?) Their staff composer was an Evie Nelson. Digital Images was no slouch. They did work for WCVB, WBTV (the 1986 city map flyover open), WTTG (Forty Years Together, Channel 5 and You), WHCT (their Right Now image from the 1985 relaunch), and the animation for WTVJ's 1988 overhaul, and for Showtime and the Discovery Channel.

  9. The man’s also been hospitalized over this, so that’s also a factor. The story is complex, and there’s still a lot we don’t know, including both the motives of the accusers and the full severity of the accusations. I think a lot of the anger at The Sun is because they implied criminality; one article implied that Huw (still unnamed) “could face criminal charges.” This wouldn’t look good for them if he didn’t commit a crime, unsavory though his actions may be. There’s also a broader discussion to be had about the right to privacy, if it was violated, and whether it can realistically be maintained in the case of a high profile individual at a public institution. If it turns out that none of the allegations amount to either criminal activity or workplace misconduct, one might ask if this ever should have been a story at all. As far as misconduct is concerned, I can’t judge one way or another until we know absolutely all of the facts, especially considering that authorities found no evidence of a crime. It’s tempting for people to make a verdict, but it wouldn’t be an informed (or just) one. Sexual misconduct is a scourge on society, but so is defamation. IMO the only appropriate thing I can say is that I hope everyone, including the alleged victims, Huw Edwards, and his family, gets much needed help and support.

  10. I somewhat understand this opinion, and also acknowledge that it’s possible for some shows to use swearing as a bit of a crutch, but to me, that’s a problem of bad writing, not the existence of swear words. You could also argue that a complete ban on swear words makes certain shows unrealistic. Can you really suspend your disbelief about the average CBS police procedural when you don’t hear the occasional F-bomb flying around? I understand having no explicit content before, say, 9pm, but I still think a complete ban is unrealistic in 2023. Although, given the fact that we’re about to experience a drought of scripted shows, this is probably a moot point. Oh well, get ready for Deal or No Deal: Electric Boogaloo.

  11. Ehhh... I like that broadcast remains mostly clean. I don't think shows should have to curse or have explicit sex scenes in order to be good. A good drama can stand on its own without those elements. We've all seen how low standards can go when they're relaxed (example the VMAs).

  14. My bad, that was a glitch on my phone. The submit button didn't take me back to the main thread page. One more: WNCN is 17, WTVD is 11.

  15. Ron and Jennifer don't do the WATL Shows, Jeff Hullinger who got relegated to weekends this year still does the primetime news block which is TAPED at 7:00 and repeated at 8:00, 8:30, 9:00 and 9:30 with a Live 10:00 p.m. newscast. Maybe Faith and Johnathan will end up taking part of the primetime news block as well
