I think this is a really nice upgrade. Sure it's not super exciting, but I genuinely don't know what more people could possibly want from a news set. It's by no means a small set, the materials and overall design are much more cohesive and high quality than 3K. It's absolutely a set worthy of DMA #1. I think back to the 2012 3C set, which despite its size looked amazing, and was way ahead of its time, launching a design thread that even persists into this current set, 11 years later. That set didn't get in the way of telling the news then, so I truly don't understand the present gripes about a lovely, expensive new set that is almost double the size of 3C.3 points

Seems to me CNN should have placed Chris and Christiane shows in Saturday primetime or something. Move first of all after Smerconish and leave CNN This Morning the regular full hours2 points

As mentioned above, CNN's new Saturday morning premiered today. First of All - Victor Blackwell says he wants to add more context to stories and showcase voices and places people are not familiar with. Interestingly, the desk says CNN Center on it, even though I don't think the new location is called that. (I think this set is mostly used for CNN International, right?) After the longtime Smerconish, it's The Chris Wallace Show. The setup reminded me of The McLaughlin Group (Wallace actually said something like: I hate to play John McLaughlin here but you're right, you're wrong!). I'm just not sure the mix of a pretaped show with Chris Wallace, who seems pretty old and has a strong accent, is formula for success but we'll see. And then there was The Amanpour Hour, also not live, and of course with an international focus. The music seems to keep the signature from her "Amanpour" show and the open has some elements of the design as well. One of the more interesting parts to me was "The Amanpour Archive," when they played a few minutes from a documentary Christiane Amanpour did for CNN in 2007 (which was relevant to today's Israel-Hamas war), followed by a clip from an interview she did in 1996. But otherwise, putting a two-hour block of taped programming every Saturday morning in this age of war of never-ending political news seems like an odd choice to me.2 points

I love just reading this with no contest and just being like 'that tracks for NWA' (I am not a wrestling fan, I just observe from afar).1 point

CALLED IT! I FRICKIN CALLED IT! Nice plan for The CW though, as it seemed no other TV stations were available.1 point

Looks like a contemporary take on those 70s promos from fellow ABC affiliates (not O&Os). Here's one from WTAE Pittsburgh (Hearst-owned ABC station) And here's another one past the 3:38 mark from WEWS Cleveland (Scripps-owned ABC affiliate) Watching that Brian Taff/Rick Williams promo did give off that vibe for me1 point

I really don't see what the big bruhaha is either, I think it's sleek and clean - now is it as grand as WTVJ, WBTS or some of the larger sets? No but it gets the job done IMO1 point

My one wish is that they would have used a curved screen for the corner set up like they have in both the Today and MSNBC 3A studios. The desk is an improvement (no longer see through) and can accommodate standing (which is fine) and seating which happens during TINY. it’s an effective use of space (yes smaller than 3K but larger than when they were in 3C). Is it fancy - no. Is it in the family of NBC sets -yes. And it is functional where the story is the focus , rather than the set or anchors.1 point

What's the problem that I sense everyone is having? I had to look back at pictures of the last set and this looks different, even if using the same elements, and looks MILES better, is more professional and modern looking in my opinion and is a nice way to have optimize your space, no matter how big or small.1 point

As I had mentioned - certainly Nothing groundbreaking or even much different than 3K. updated technology. Use of LED panels as opposed to duratrans screens, but basically still the same look in a smaller space1 point

I like the desk but I’m never going to stop complaining about how stupid the standing anchors look is.1 point
