  1. Scripps must see something in the GM, he recently got promoted to regional GM oversee 3 or 4 other markets. I know he did improve advertising revenue quite a bit when he was in Green Bay especially when they started airing local sports, but revenue for WTMJ has dropped significantly since Scripps took over, part of that ad revenue is going down for all TV stations especially in the last couple of years, but compared to the other stations in Milwaukee, WTMJ has lost the most. All major decision goes though Cincinnati, that has been the case shortly after the merger. if you look all the Scripps stations for the most part, they are in 3-4 place in the ratings. sure, there are some that do better but are in small markets or where the competition is nonexistence. WTMJ looks like every station in the group performance wise. Nothing WTMJ does stands out, Chamraz and Benson are better reporters than anchors, all the reporters are interchangeable and will likely be gone in 2-3 years when their contract runs out. After the merger everyone that only reported left or was replaced in 6 months. Andrea Williams and Cassandra are the best recent hires, but they are not hard news reporters, they are miss used only to be on the low rated 6:30pm show. WTMJ should be doing more community stories for the intercity on the main 5,6 and 10pm newscast and not just focusing on crime and violence. For decades WTMJ had the biggest and probably the best weather team in the market, but for the most of this summer WTMJ was down to only 3 meteorologists. Every time there was severe weather all the other stations had 2-3 meteorologists on hand compared to WTMJ where they only had one who was standing in front of the green screen looking down on their lap top the whole time. WTMJ recently hired a 4th meteorologist but got rid of the 5th met spot a few years ago. 6,12 and 58 all have 5 metorologists.

  3. So sad to hear of Pablo's passing. I grew up watching him and admiring his storytelling, and then I got to work at the same place as him. He was a nice guy and always made you feel cool. CBS 2 had a nice tribute tonight at 5. The station has unfortunately gotten good at doing these this year. And just a random tweet I came across that showed some of his personality. (This was the live tag after a package. He signed off as "John Slattery.")

  4. I'm glad to see Dr Phil reruns dipping into the archives and not just playing episodes from the last 4 to 5 years. They were even doing so when the show was making new episodes. Similarly, I also like that Judge Mathis had a flashback case segment within newly released episodes. l know long running sydicated shows have an aversion to "dated" episodes but they are cool to see.

  5. I know one team locally is waiting to announce something but is waiting for word from the courts about what they can do to end-around Bally's rights to get those games elsewhere. Let's just say if everything looks static right now for your team and they're happy on air with Bally, that isn't the reality in the front office at all.

  6. I think I'm slightly younger than you...replace Harry on KIRO with his son Andy, Tony with Gaard Swanson, and Susan with Kristy Lee + Margo Myers. But somewhere I do have a baby picture where I point to Harry doing a WX report on the TV Anyways, the thing I will remember most about Steve Pool is his friendly presence on TV. When KOMO started doing 4:00 news (with Mary Nam), Steve and Mary would try to guess the answer to the "question of the day"...usually a survey question. Often they would both get stumped. But it often involved chuckles and quips. Then he did his weather report just like a professional. Steve reminded us when to pull out the umbrella, when to expect school closures (i.e., if Seattle was getting an inch of snow or for heaven's sake, MORE), and when to pull out the sunscreen and go out to the beach, those 85 to 90 degree summer days. KOMO was like his second home. He interned there while he was a student at UW in the mid-1970s. KOMO gave him the job in 1977 (sports/reporting), and he became chief meteorologist in 1984. One of those cases where a news personality didn't have to work his way up from little Bozeman or Parkersburg, up to mid-size, and finally to major-market...he stayed in Seattle, at KOMO, for his entire career, besides those 70+ times where he filled in for Spencer Christian on GMA because he was just THAT good at his job. Don't forget to say hi to Ken Schram for us, Steve. I hope the weather is a perfect 75 and sunny up in Heaven.

  7. Same. Grew up watching them, as well as Jean, Dennis, Jeff & Lori over on KING and Steve, Susan, Harry & Tony over on KIRO.

  8. Weigel is definitely not an afterthought in the market and they've long left their 90s era struggles at this point. They definitely have the more powerful schedule and good overall lead-ins outside mornings, and they (along with the other four ops in town) hire good people from everywhere rather than MMJs who are hamstrung from the get-go. WTMJ is just in a fugue state where they're still stuck trying to recapture their 90s peak, but with Carole Meekins about to depart they no longer have any of those people in the newsroom and it's mainly either personnel with no connection to the area, or those who came on to try to salvage things, or those who are just there because they sucked up to management still living as if Journal hasn't fully ceased to exist. There's just no encouragement there, or any management that wants it to be unique; their GM did absolutely nothing with WGBA and somehow got promoted, and their 'no comment' in that Next TV article says it all; it's a station that wants to do the bare minimum without Cincy catching onto them.

  9. Finally switching to the new logo, during a parade, 2 years after network's initial rebrand rollout isn't really a sign of anything.

  10. Did anyone else notice 6ABC changed to the new bug in the middle of the parade? They are certainly close to switching over to the new graphics.

  13. I don't hate it but I don't like it either. Better than whatever WXIA has. Downside is that the temp set 46 was on looks a lot better than this.

  22. WSB started a temporary 3pm newscast this week, lasting until the midterms are over. As a result, Tamron Hall is bumped until 1:36am. And they outright admitted it's for political ad revenue: https://www.ajc.com/life/radiotvtalk-blog/wsb-tv-newscast-temporarily-pre-empts-tamron-hall-talk-show-at-3-pm-until-midterm-elections/K2M3KLB4FVHATB5U33ZICKY53M/

  24. Now, all four of Cleveland's news stations are doing newscasts at 4PM. With WOIO on at 3pm, I wouldn't be surprised if more stations start at 3 as well.
