I'm sure that Comcast is salivating at the thought of picking up TWC. Comcast is not available in several markets where they own NBC O&O's and at the top of my head, they would at least be covering LA (KNBC) and New York (WNBC). Also, if TWC were to include it's regional networks (sports, news) it will fit in nicely with CSN. CSN Los Angeles/CSN New York anyone? (TWC cable does have a stake in SportsNet New York as does Comcast along with the Mets.)
  2. It looks nice. The updated L3's are good, it takes an already established look and enhances it. I always thought the lower thirds on Look F looked incomplete. In regards to the music, I like it. The problem with LA groove was that it had not been updated in almost 6-7 years? and it was starting to sound too boring, so this is a refreshing change.

    At the FCC

Seems unlikely, both of those companies don't seem to be in any rush to expand when compared to Sinclair, Nextstar etc.

KUSI must have very desperate to take him back. Let's see how long this stint lasts. I'm not sure where Alexis winds up, she gave no indication that she was staying- or going. Either way, she'd would make a nice addition to KSWB. Speaking of which, it's interesting that Paul did not say that Susan had the night off, both yesterday and today. It may just be me, but the timing of her absence sure is coincidental to Dan Plante's resurfacing at KUSI.

Just to add that Alexis Del Chiaro decided not to renew her contract with KUSI, to explore her "options". No word on where she is going. That adds another problem to KUSI's already short staffed operation. On KGTV, it seems like Maria Arcega-Dunn is taking over weekend morning anchoring duties from Chris Murphy.
  6. Well. I guess the question about new graphics has an answer....

Good points. IMHO, social media reporters add nothing of value to a broadcast. We have that in here in San Diego for the Padres telecasts every tuesday, and it has gotten to the point where I tune the game out when the segment pops up. They pose topics for viewers to respond to, and the reporter will read them on air- it's stupid. I am not opposed to using social media during a newscast, if it will promote an intelligent discussion and or get an honest reaction of the public. However, far too often we see the typical " OMG, did you see the Miley twerking video, did you guys like it?!?!?!" question on social media, and somehow it finds its way on to a newscast for no legitimate reason. On a side note in regards to traffic reporters...The California Highway Patrol provides traffic reports to local stations. I believe that the CHP partners with KTTV in LA for traffic reports and here in San Diego, they do it on KGTV. In fact, Phil Konstantin, a former CHP officer went to work as traffic reporter at KUSI after he retired from the Highway Patrol. He then jumped to KGTV to be their traffic/helicopter reporter (he was laid off earlier this year when KGTV gave up their chopper), now he is working for Metro Traffic appearing on air at KFMB.
  8. So they never got the "Hey Chicago! Live is moving to ABC 7..." promo? I ask because KGTV got one saying "Hey San Diego! Live is coming to ABC 10, Monday Sept. 2" and then there was another one where Kelly and Michael have several boxes and then explain that they are moving to ABC 10. Cheesy promos, but it gets the point across.

KCBS will move LMAD to 9am as well. KPIX is already airing it at 9am (unsure when it moved into that time slot). Could be a CBS mandate to have the show air at that time.

Ahh well my mistake then. I thought I read somewhere that the Katie show was up in the air with the new 4pm newscast premiering on WFAA. I could have also been a rumor that stations were looking to drop the show in the second season.

Hard to say what happens to Katie, since I have yet to see any promos touting a timeslot change. WFAA did drop the show, so KGTV could also do the same...

Back to San Diego, lots of moving and shaking with syndicated tv shows in the market. KGTV 10 (ABC): has picked up LIVE with Kelly and Michael, it will air at 9am after GMA starting 9/2. The show moves over from KFMB 8 (CBS) were it has aired for the past two years. Also, Right This Minute, which currently airs at 9am will move to 4pm also on 9/2 and occupy the slot being occupied by Katie. No word on what happens to the Katie show, if it has been dropped or moved to another timeslot.

Wow, that is very strange. A lot of people were posting on KFMB's facebook page asking about her whereabouts for the last two months or so and the station made no mention of it, and when the talent was asked they simply replied that she was off for a while. It's strange for an on-air personality to just simply vanish from one day to the next, hopefully everything goes well for her. Natalie Basha was surprising as well, as you mentioned she had only been there for a few months (3 at the most?). Natasha seems to be well liked by Dan and Nichelle as well as the public, so that's a step in the right direction. If only they could get rid of that crappy music and graphics. When the average joe starts to complain on facebook that your music is bad, then it's really bad.

Christine has left KNSD. Catherine replied to me in a tweet mentioning that she unfortunately had to leave for family reasons and was going back to Texas. Really surprising, since she had only been there a year and a half.

Some interesting things going on in San Diego... * Virginia Cha has been moved to anchor the morning/11am newscasts at KGTV 10 (ABC), she previously anchored the 5:30/6pm newscasts. Cha replaces Kaushal Patel, who has left the station. * KNSD 7 (NBC) has dropped the "San Diego" part of their branding, going by just "NBC 7 News" * KNSD 7 (NBC) has also changed their morning newscast title from "News in the Morning" to "NBC 7 News TODAY" * KFMB 8 (CBS) morning weathercaster Vanessa Bezic has been missing in action for more than a month now. The station is being tight lipped on her whereabouts and her bio is still on their website. In an interesting move, former morning meteorologist Natasha Stenbock is back with KFMB filling in on the morning show (She used to do weather in the morning from 2005-2009). *Former KUSI anchor Dan Plante, who most recently at KTVX in Salt Lake City (after being bounced from KUSI) is back in San Diego, doing some fill in work at the desk during KSWB (FOX) News at 10pm.

Just to expand a bit on this. Pomeranz isn't exactly going to be a broadcaster (or play by play guy) for the Padres (that job belongs to former CBS broadcaster Dick Enberg), instead Pomeranz will handle Pre and Post-Game shows for the newly created (and soon to be launched) FOX Sports San Diego. Rumors are flying that Pomeranz could eventually move into the booth to call games, but that is pure speculation as Dick Enberg still has several years on his contract with the Padres. More from U-T San Diego. http://www.utsandieg...es-studio-host/

If Catherine even wants the new duties, because i'm pretty sure that she likes her new schedule since she has a little boy (kind of the same position as Susan). My guess is that they get someone from the outside to fill the spot. Susan is going to be missed, she has really good chemistry with Mark and Laz, hard to replace that.

Kerstin Lindquist, morning weathercaster at KGTV 10 (ABC) has left the station to be a host at QVC. She starts at QVC in October. Robert Santos who currently does weather/anchoring on the weekends will do weekday weather.

In San Diego, CBS affiliate KFMB picks up Live with Regis & Kelly and will air it in the 9am timeslot starting August 22nd. The Bold and the Beautiful moves to 11:30am and the 11am newscast is cut to 30 minutes. Also, KFMB will air Anderson Cooper's new show at 4pm replacing Oprah. KUSI which aired R&K will expand Good Morning San Diego an additional hour, which will air from 5-10am.
  21. They were just testing out the graphics along with the music. I guess they just slapped together whatever new graphics they had. This is actually a sample on 615music.com.
  22. KCBS' new graphics package, with NEWSFORCE instead of NEWSTIME. Guess someone must have leaked the video. EDIT:The video was not leaked but rather a sample that is available on 615 Music's website. [yt=425,350]ruGC0oBsmc0&NR=1[/yt]
