  1. Let's be honest. I really don't think that adding the Journal stations in the mix will help profits at all- not with all the expenses they will be taking on. These are not #1 stations, they are are as NS8401 pointed out, 3rd or 4th place stations. Plus they will need some resources poured into them, just like the former McGraw-Hill stations. And just look at how that turned out... as soon as they don't produce to their liking after they have invested in them, they then start cutting back. Scripps needs to stick to a sound plan and give it time, and not sidetrack itself with these gimmicky stunts/programs/ideas/products that they come up with or invest in. Frankly, I'm surprised that Brian Lawlor still has a job with the company seeing as that many of the stations he oversees are at the bottom of barrel.
  2. The thing with Scripps is that for every one good move they make, they turn around and make ten bad ones. I'm not sure if their decisions/moves are consultant driven or if they just base them on trying to see what shit sticks on the wall, but boy they do make you scratch your head and ask why. I get the need to be at the forefront of the digital age and attract the younger audience, but they do not need to alienate one segment of the audience to reach the other. It goes to show you that they have no idea what they are doing when they have no issue alienating the older audience that consume their products. While the focus is on KNXV right now, here in San Diego, KGTV has been cleaning house left and right. In the last few months, several prominent, older talent have been pushed out the door recently. That's in addition to the other layoffs earlier in the year.
  3. Looks like it was slapped together in a short amount of time. Which makes me wonder why they didn't take the time to do the talent open/rejoin look the same as the other ones? Also, i'm under the impression that they will be looking to move Bill off the noon show in the not so distant future. I'm sure they only kept him around to provide some stability and to give them some time to look for another weather person to add. They can do what KTRK does and have one weather person for the AM, one for the midday/noon and early afternoon news and the evening weather person to balance the load out.

The timing is too coincidental. Seems a bit suspicious that they would all of a sudden promote the Weatherate seal and the "San Diego's Most Accurate forecast" crap in the days before their lead weather anchor was canned.

I wanted to say that the cuts at KGTV were isolated to the station and some if it's long time talent, then I read that WFTS' main weather guy Wayne Shattuck "retired." And by retired we all know...pushed out. So that says that these cuts are coming from Scripps corporate. Which is a shame because Scripps did a really good job these last two years in really investing in the station to make it competitive in the evening and now with all these moves, they don't care about alienating the long time viewers.
  6. Looks like they will be using their old chopper as a backup/secondary chopper. I guess they're trying to take a page out of KNBC's book by having two choppers at their disposal.

The rumors had been flying for several days now. The news of her departure was posted a few days ago on this thread I believe. Ashlee is heading to KPHO/KTVK, not KSAZ. Frankly, all this turnover these last few months is really surprising. I am not sure if it's Scripps ordering these cuts, or the new news director making her mark, but it doesn't bode well for a station that is trying to play catch up to KFMB.

Cleveland Meteorologist Angelica Campos is leaving WJW in Cleveland for the Chief Met job at KGTV in San Diego. So the big question of the day is, what will happen to current weeknight weather anchor Pat Brown? Pat is very well liked in San Diego, and she got the short end of the stick when she was dumped at KNSD during the NBC 2.0 cuts. Hopefully she'll still be on the air in some capacity. http://www.cleveland.com/tv-blog/index.ssf/2015/05/angelica_campos_leaving_channel_8_for_job_in_san_diego.html
  9. WGN's baseball graphics pack has aged pretty well. Sure, it could use a tweak or two but compared to other networks (MASN, YES, NESN), it's still one of the best looks out there.
  10. Now only if WLS would do the same...

I noticed that as well. I was a bit surprised to see him on KNSD on Wed. afternoon after he was on KSWB the previous night (wearing a KTLA branded jacket). I don't know why NBC didn't use their other freelance correspondents like Jennifer Bjorklund or Jinah Kim.

Doubtful. Bill and Bob are both in their 60s, Kimberly is in her 50s. Plus, they are in a tight race with KFMB for 1st/2nd place on the 11pm news and I doubt they are going to want to make changes when they are pretty competitive.
  13. I'm curious to know what the intentions behind this move are. Is it that after Lisa's untimely death, that the ND wants the morning shift to work less hours? Or is it that they are wanting viewers to get acclimated with Shirleen so that she can eventually replace another anchor? Or maybe both? But for some reason, I think that Diana will be the one to be replaced-- via retirement or just leaving on her own.
  14. KGTV debuted it a few months ago and it was very much needed. Their old weather graphics were beyond horrible. Plus they were using a satellite image from Bing as the default map, so you can imagine just how ugly it looked having a watermarked Bing logo in the top right hand corner.
  15. That's a shame, although a platform like The View can really help her out in getting new opportunities/projects. I'm not sure if it's the fact that she would have to relocate from LA to NY for the show that she considers a no-go, but if she really wants that exposure... Plus, over the years, several of the panelists have done side jobs like movies and stand up shows while doing The View. Not to mention that they don't tape on Fridays, so they automatically get a three day weekend. It really isn't a bad gig... In by 8am and out by 12-1pm on most days. Plus, if the rumors are true about NIcolle and Rosie's salaries ($400k/year, at the minimum), then it's a great great gig if you can get it.
  16. Good write up by Variety. I think this really confirms just how bad things were behind the scenes. The show has really improved in the months since O'Donnell left- even with the rotating guest co-hosts. Some of the guests co-hosts that they've had on have no business being on the show- let alone co-hosting, but it's really helped distinguish the good [potential] replacement candidates from the terrible ones. I will say (and has been reported), that they are seriously considering Raven Symone for the show. This is her third straight week on the show. One dark horse candidate that has surprisingly had good reviews is, Cristela Alonzo- despite her annoying laugh, but I digress. I think that Cristela adds a breath of fresh, honest air to the show. She is relatable and most importantly, she is not the blonde, self-indulged, air-head type that permeate the tv business. If anything, Cristela reminds me of a younger, less polarizing version of Joy Behar. Plus, you can tell Whoopi is at ease when Raven or Cristela is guest co-hosting.

It's probably a case of waiting for her maternity leave to be over before they announce any changes. It's a very weird predicament to be in, that's for sure.

Well, the lawsuits he filed were against KABC and KCBS/KCAL, never against any of the Tribune properties. So, I don't know if that played a part in it, or maybe they wanted someone who could fill in more regularly?

I don't think she was a freelancer at 6. She might be now, depending on what KFMB plans to do with the position. She's been at KSWB for a few months now. Since Brad is on the morning shift probably for sweeps, Amy has been filling in. The biggest change was KSWB not using Kyle Hunter anymore to fill in.

Renee--supposedly. I am not sure if it's a permanent thing since Renee has gotten the short end of the stick several times now.

She hasn't left. Natasha is on maternity leave and Kimi is taking her place temporarily. The job posting a few weeks ago mentioned that they were looking for a temporary weather anchor for the morning show. This is not to say that Natasha won't/can't decide later on to leave the station, but for now she is on maternity leave.
  22. They really need to re-do the opens. They look very sloppy. On a side note, it seems like WTVJ picked up V.2 of the lower thirds (same style/design as KNBC/WMAQ/KXAS) albeit with the aqua color they've been using.
  23. I think they started doing ST games in HD last year. The year before that the PQ was terrible and you could definitely tell that it was not in HD.
  24. Weren't they lasvegasnow.com prior to adopting the 8news Now branding? They could go back to that.
  25. Good points. I think that part of her less-confrontational stance is due to her being intimidated by Rosie, because often times whenever she has a contrary stance to something, she looks over to see what/if Rosie O. will react. Although, surprisingly (or not) Whoopi seems to have this protective-ness for Nicolle like she did with Elisabeth. While Nicolle does not seem like the one to argue just for the sake of arguing, it will be interesting to see just how much she will open up once Rosie O. leaves.
