  1. Weren't they lasvegasnow.com prior to adopting the 8news Now branding? They could go back to that.
  2. Good points. I think that part of her less-confrontational stance is due to her being intimidated by Rosie, because often times whenever she has a contrary stance to something, she looks over to see what/if Rosie O. will react. Although, surprisingly (or not) Whoopi seems to have this protective-ness for Nicolle like she did with Elisabeth. While Nicolle does not seem like the one to argue just for the sake of arguing, it will be interesting to see just how much she will open up once Rosie O. leaves.
  3. She's listed as an EP, but I don't think that she has any decision-making capabilities anymore. I would say that while the panel search was done in haste, Nicolle has really been a great addition. She has really stepped up her game in the last few months.
  4. It's not surprising. I had a weird feeling that something was going to happen sooner rather than later. If any one has seen the show in the last few weeks, things have been TENSE on set- especially between Rosie and Whoopi. They barely would talk to each other. If anything, I think this might help the show get better ratings as some people had tuned out because of Rosie. In the interim, they probably will have Barbara and Joy fill in but the timing of this is just too coincidental.
  5. Luckily, Rosie O's contract is up at the end of the season (along with Nicolle and Rosie P.) Only Whoopi is signed through next season.
  6. Part of the problem lies with the fact that Rosie wants to do the show her way. She wants to be the moderator and have the show revolve around Rosie. She really is not interested in talking politics or reality/pop culture topics. If she were in charge, The View would be arts & crafts, discussions on social issues and some current events and celebrity interviews. The show has become unbearable as you have Whoopi constantly being negative- almost like she is doing it on purpose to piss Rosie O. off. NIcolle seems intimidated by Rosie, she has gotten better about voicing her point of view but Rosie often cuts her off. I really think that they should do better once O'Donnell is off the show.
  7. Good points. If you believe the tabloids... Jenny never caught on with the viewers and her whole anti-vaccination stance was one of the main reasons why- plus she was boring and unfunny. Although towards the end of her time on the show, she did get more bold and spoke her mind quite a bit. Sherri was probably a casualty of the sagging ratings and the fact that her time on the panel had run its course. So it's not surprising that they could not agree on a new contract. Geddie was forced out by the network once Barbara sold her stake in the show to ABC, plus it has been widely reported that Rosie O'Donnell and Geddie despised each other. I can't remember if I read that she would only come back to the show if he was no longer the EP of the show. During the summer turmoil, Whoopi supposedly wanted out of her contract but she still had a few years on her deal so ABC say no. It has been reported that she is still under contract for next season at $5 million bucks- she'll get paid whether the show airs or not. Joy, regardless of politics was a big loss for the show. After she left, it felt like The View lost its identity. There have been enough hints from Joy these past few years to suggest that she was pushed out by the higher ups at ABC. And if i'm not mistaken, the decision was made by Ann Sweeney (who was instrumental in bringing Rosie O back to the show).
  8. If they were to add 3-4 hosts/panelists to a GAA show, then why not just put them The View? It would be a whole lot easier, cheaper and still have that recognizable brand. Heck, the graphics/feel/set of The View right now look like they would fit GAA... Why? They wouldn't be able to use the name, or any concepts that are too similar to The View, so i'm not sure what the purpose would be. ABC is the owner of The View brand/show, plain and simple. I'm pretty sure that the network has a clause that would prohibit Walters and Geddie from starting a similar show that could compete with The View and at this point, I doubt Barbara is looking to work full time. Barbara mentioned how they had a chance years ago to take The View to syndication but they decided against it because ABC provided stability, good money and a prime spot on the daytime schedule. Here is an article from the NY Daily News on why ABC might not be ready to cancel the show, despite the rumors... http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/view-troubles-not-finished-article-1.2081076
  9. ABC is the majority owner of The View. Bill Geddie sold all of his stake to ABC while Barbara sold all but 17% of her stake in the show. There was an article on it last summer while rumors were swirling of cast changes. So the chances that The View moves to another network are none. ABC does not own/produce The Rachael Ray show, so they wouldn't have the ability to cancel the show.
  10. The problem with this season's refresh was that it was hastily done. Bill Geddie the EP for the show was canned towards the end of the summer and the new EP Bill Wolfe only had a few weeks to decide on the remaining panelists while being handicapped with Rosie O'Donnell's hiring. From the reports of GAA possibly making a comeback, it was mentioned that the show would focus on light-hearted/pop-culture topics. Yes, they could have the ability to cover breaking news, but that will be few and far between. A View type of program as I mentioned earlier, can delve into a variety of topics and guests that would be more far-reaching to all different types of viewers. If done correctly, they can attract young, old, affluent, etc. types of viewers. They don't need another straight-forward newscast, nor an Entertainment Tonight/The Insider type of program like GAA. They can fix The View, it will just take [more] time and [more] patience. Hell, even The Talk had a rough few years to start off, but eventually they climbed their way up. The View can get back there in time.
  11. ABC has denied that Perez will be leaving/fired from the show. Rosie addressed it last week on the show saying that Perez will be back next month, once she is done with rehearsals for her play- We shall see, although her hiatus has been planned since she joined the show in September. Both Rosie's and Nicolle's contract are up after this year, Whoopi still has one year left on her contract (at a reported $5 million dollars). Despite all the turmoil and falling ratings, I think that ABC will stick with the show...for now at least. The show still makes money for the company and the presidential elections are coming up next year which is very lucrative in terms of ratings/ads. The View is one of a few shows where news events can be discussed alongside funny/quirky/pop culture/serious topics and then turn around and discuss politics without having to conform to the journalistic standard of a news program. While Good Afternoon America can be a good replacement, IMO it will severely limit what ABC/ABC News can do with that hour. I doubt that politics or serious topics will be on docket of a GAA show. The View needs a fresh approach (a couple of younger panelists) and go back to their bread and butter of discussing politics with differing views.
  12. Yeah and in the Hearst thread it was pointed out that WBAL has been using a different voiceover instead of Ratner. KFMB is using the Inside Edition guy to voice promos and have been using him for at least two weeks. Not sure if Ratner is ill or just on vacation.
  13. Looks very nice and clean. The L3 is part of Look F v.2, KNBC has been using it for months now.
  14. KCBS has been using those graphics for the AM promos for over a month now. I see them everyday on Facebook, don't know if they use them on air.

Probably ratings. It happened towards the end of October, I thought that Brandi was on vacation but then I saw her on weekends and I figured they swapped places. Good change though, Lisa IMO is a lot more energetic/engaging and better to watch, while Brandi comes across as an airhead most of the time.
  16. Despite all the changes, The View is not doing too bad on the ratings front. The biggest issue that they're facing is that 18-54 demo, to which they're neck and neck with The Talk. What they need now is stability and let the panel gel, And if IIRC it was instability (among other things) that brought about all the problems at Today, and ABC needs to avoid going down that route (again) if they want The View to be on top. I still think they'll bring in a 5th person to the panel, and a name that has been floated around before is Ali Wentworth- Wife of GMA anchor George Stephanopoulos.
  17. Correct. Zucker really screwed up NBC while he was at the helm, and the O&Os were clearly not on his list of priorities. Many of the O&O's suffered greatly as a result of his NBC 2.0 plan where in some cases the stations were left with a bare bone staff (i.e. KNSD). Also, WVIT was in the middle of building their new facility around that time and construction was stopped for a while due to the budget cuts. It wasn't until Comcast was about to come in that the new building was completed.
  18. That was beyond their control as several of the NBC O&O's were also late to converting their newscasts to HD and the blame falls squarely on Jeff Zucker/GE.
  19. The rumored 3-year contract looks like an idea that was brought up by both sides to cover their asses. Although, we don't know what Disney/ABC's policy on contract length and money amount is ( for all we know, they may not be allowed to hand out contracts longer than 3 or 4 years). I can think of at least 5 personalities that will most likely not be with the station in 5 years, as such WLS needs to start grooming the younger ones to step up when the time comes.
  20. A lot of these moves are in many ways being dictated by the Mouse. WLS is trying to set up their talent roster for the long term. Cheryl is a lot younger than Mike, Phil and Tracy and realistically they want someone who will probably stick around a lot longer than 5-10 years. Granted that there is no guarantee in life, but if you think about, who do you think will be at WLS in another 10 years... Cheryl Scott or Mike Caplan, Phil Shwarz or Tracy Butler? Also, it happened with the outsourcing of master control at the ABC O&O's but you can almost guarantee that layoffs and or non-renewals are coming up for many employees. The ABC O&O's are pretty bloated to begin with and they can easily shave off some payroll at every station in the group- either via non-renewals or retirements.
  21. So this would explain why they did the viewer survey on the weather personalities several months ago. I honestly don't see everyone sticking around, even when Jerry retires. My guess is that Caplan or Schwarz are on the hot seat. Too many on the payroll.

Haggerty is still listed on their website. Maria went to KSWB, Mitch left for WCAU in Philadelphia and don't know about Hannah. KGTV seems to clean house every few months.
  23. NBC 10 is getting a great investigative reporter in Mitch Blacher. Sad to see him leave San Diego/KGTV, he was by far one of the best. He was at the forefront of exposing former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner's harrasment scandal and the problems affecting the San Diego Police Department. Good addition for NBC 10.
