  1. So a big follow-up regard WMC. @Samantha mentioned it yesterday (11/27), but I'll make a mention it here. In the light of the FCC finally lifting the freeze on station modifications and allotment subsitutions last month, WMC has now petitioned to move its full-power signal from the problematic VHF-low 5 to UHF 30! The contour of UHF 30 is smaller than the VHF 5 contour. And the reason is to protect Little Rock's KLRT which is also on RF 30. I guess there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping that they can finally get out of that VHF-low hellhole. But that's not all. Gray has filed petitions to move five more stations off that VHF dial. And that includes two nearby stations: KAIT Jonesboro, AR petitions to vacate VHF 8 for UHF 27. KFVS Cape Girardeau, MO petitions to vacate VHF 11 for UHF 32. They're also applications filed by other Gray stations who have asked for power increases. KWWT (the Odessa station Gray just bought) have asked to move its antenna facility to KOSA's tower and raise the power to 500kW. WVUE in New Orleans wants to boost its power from 850kW to the full maximized 1MW. KVLY, KNOE & KCWY have also applied for power increases. ______________________________________________ So on an unrelated note, KOLN was granted approval to rebuild its antenna tower. Remember, its original tower collapsed in an ice storm earlier this year. It originally wanted to build a larger tower (1650 ft.) but it has decided to lower the height by 150 ft. (which was the height of their original tower (1500 ft.)). This also affects KSNB's petition to move to UHF 24 (which also proposed to use KOLN's new tower). But that petition is currently under review.
  2. All I can say is wow! I feel this like 2009-2010 all over again. 20+ petitions filed on the same day? Damn! Channel substitutions were happening after the DTV transaction, when many vacated off the problematic VHF signals and move to UHF. Then all that ended when they reinforced the freeze in 2011, in anticipation of the forthcoming (and now completed) spectrum auction and repack. With the freeze lifted completely, this may not be the last of those substitution filings.......
  3. That's a damn shame. But I cannot be surprised. Before the M&A craze, Nexstar didn't even live stream their newscasts online. To this day, most of the pre-2011 Nexstar stations still don't live stream. This latest move is just a stark contrast (a complete 180°) to what the other groups are doing. Scripps, Gray, Cox, even the O&Os, have gone all-in on streaming (especially on platforms (ie Roku & FireTV)). Where's Nexstar on any of this? And what's worse about it, as many folks are cutting the cord like crazy, how about when the power goes out, and they can't watch the broadcast without authentication? You might as well call this a paywall. It's not like they're streaming the entire linear station online.
  4. The folks that run the "keepmystation.com" webpage should at least know that WGN is NOT a "My Network" affiliate.....
  5. Big news out of Steel City.....
  6. I think the reason why they bought KSIX was not just for acquiring Telemundo. But to get the "K5" stream back on satellite, which they haven't been since Nexstar took over KFVE's former cable allotments (cable channel 5) almost two years ago. General Manager Katie Pickman basically confirms this in this Star-Advertiser article back in October: So here's what I found out from the station's article earlier this month. The "K5" stream was moved on cable to channel 6 on Charter Spectrum, Hawaii Telecom & DirecTV and channel 8 on Dish Network. Telemundo has now taken over K5's former cable allotments. That includes Spectrum channel 22, and Hawaii Telecom channel 13. But the stream will stay on channel 6 on Dish.
  7. That's not new. The KSIX stream has been simulcasted on KKAI's sub, prior to Gray's acquisition.
  8. Follow-up since the KSIX transaction closed a couple of months back. A callsign changed occured in the Big Island on November 13th. The station that was KFVE (the former KHBC-TV) is now KSIX-TV. And the station that was KSIX-TV (the station Gray just bought) is now KFVE. No word if the "K5" stream (KHNL-DT2) is airing on the new KFVE.
  9. We have another Nexstar station that's dropping MeTV for Antenna TV. La Crosse/Eau Claire's WLAX/WEUX is replacing MeTV for Antenna TV (25.2 & 48.2, respectively) beginning December 3. MeTV will be carried on Quincy's WXOW 19.3 (formerly Decades). Also, no word of what Gray's WEAU will be carrying to displace Antenna. It'll highly likely it'll carry Gray's Circle diginet in its place. I think its "safe to say" that Nexstar is waiting patiently for those MeTV contracts to expire.......
  10. He was already in studio for a special live edition of UpClose that Sunday. This was because the network called the winner of the election that previous morning.
  11. You still think they're going to switch to that god-awful noise? Talkback 16 would be jammed!!.......
  12. The Alex Trebek tributes is in this thread.
  13. Glad that Sade & Bill are anchoring on this historic night.
  14. That deal has been greenlighted today.
  15. Follow-up. Fox 5 made their official announcement this AM. It is the latter. 6-11am.
  16. New M&A. Seems that Weigel continues to grow..... Remember a couple of months back, it announced they're acquiring Nashville's WJFB from HC2 Broadcasting. Well they're now going to acquire four more stations from HC2 for $35M. KAZD Lake Dallas (Dallas) KYAZ Katy (Houston) KMOH Kingman, AZ KEJR-LD Phoenix All of these stations currenty air Azteca America. That carriage will likely away should the deal get to the finish line. But HC2 does have a couple of LPs in those three cities it could move Azteca in. But this could set up for a major shift in subchannel placement once the current carriage deals expires. In Dallas, CBS's KTVT carries Start, while sister KTXA carries MeTV. Fox's KDFW carries Decades, while sister KDFI carries Movies & H&I. In Houston, Graham's KPRC currently carry three of the nets (MeTV, H&I & Start) and Fox's KTXH carries two (Decades & Movies). In Phoenix, KAZT in Prescott carries MeTV, while Fox's KSAZ (H&I) & KUTP (Decades, Movies & Start) carries the rest. Weigel does have group deals with CBS & Fox to carry one (or more) of their diginets. Even two Fox O&Os carry MeTV (WTTG & KTBC). So It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
  17. Jeannette was the morning reporter & fill-in anchor for the two years she was there.
  18. Okay. The Byron Allen diginet talk is in this thread.
  19. The first set of stations going to Mission was greenlighted by the FCC today. KASY/KWBQ, WLAJ, WXXA, & WNAC.
  20. Basically, Tim & Sean are keeping their same positions under their new corporate structure. Tim was the president of subsidiary, Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. And Sean was the EVP of WGN America, WGN Radio & Antenna TV & Director of Content Acquisition. The only one that's leaving is Gregory Raifman, president of Nexstar DIgital, LLC. He will stay on until his term is up at the end of March. The new structure will go in effect November 1st.
  21. Longtime anchor Joel Daly, passed away this morning at the age of 86.
  22. And Gray has swiftly closed on the KUBD acq. on Monday (10/19).
