Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
CircleSeven replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
They've been so much talk about this, months before the Sinclair-Tribune deal was made. They even said they were going to launch a national cable channel, and as you see four years later, that hasn't happened. So I take this with a giant grain of sea salt. I'll believe it when I see it. -
Tulsa's Scripps outlet KJRH has released its morning anchor pair of Taniya Wright and Daniel Winn. It's a shocker when you get fired before the end of sweeps. Now the station is looking for replacements.

Rielle has resurfaced. She's now at WFOR.

The only time I see them do a solo broadcast, is if when they air the late news after a primetime sporting event, and that's only if it runs late.

New M&A. Back on April 20, Deerfield Media has bought K45CX-D in Park City, UT for $1.75M. The sale was greenlighted June 22. Even though they didn't form a JSA with Sinclair (they could've bought the station outright because the station is an LP), the Salt Lake Tribune said that they've made a partnership with Sinclair-owned KJZZ to air some of Park City TV's programming on KJZZ's signal. -
So one station got rid of "The Now" (WRTV), and another one is starting it up. WKBW is launching "The Now" in September (could start airing on the 4th) at 7pm, after World News Tonight. Hannah Buehler will anchor the broadcast.

Damn, that's a big jump for Leigh. Kudos. But how many investigative reporters do they need? Is Jim or Nina leaving or being reassigned?
-
Okay, here's the paperwork again. They've amended the app to include the FSW and main studio waiver request. Why you didn't post it in the first damn place?! Sloppy.

Speaking of Dolinsky, he was live in-studio for a lengthy "Saturday Night Sampler" segment. I'm not sure if this was a first. He almost always was in-studio for the now former "Friday Night Special" segments. Also earlier on the 10pm, I actually saw the floor director extend his arm to point at Ravi, before the OTS graphic popped up. Maybe that floor director should move a couple of inches back so we won't see that arm pop up.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! The Heathens of Hunt Valley will always apologize for something they don't really mean. Just like the time they greatly edited a video of a Baltimore protest march so it would sound like they're making an anti-law enforcement chant. From Zurawik's piece ten days ago: You can't make that up either. And this was a few months before the Freddie Gray incident. -

You can't make that up. You just can't. -
Here's some courtesy of @ctmajka's YT. This was from December 3rd of '92. As you see from the full shot on the , this was the 80s set, but used that same backdrop you mentioned above. And that desk is the same. But it includes the new '92 music. So I'm thinking the new music pre-dated the new 90s set. I also thought about that first image. Could that also be a chroma key backdrop? Because I also remember during those years they would use pictures and videos on a backdrop behind the anchors. This is similar to what they do now with that giant video wall.

This was missed. But back on Sunday, a truck slamed into the facade of the building of Lockwood Broadcasting's KAKE in west Wichita. The article said that the driver of the truck suffered a medical episode, but a dispatcher supervisor said that no one was transfered from that scene to a hospital.

Nexstar has renew its affiliation agreement with Fox in all 31 markets, through the end of 2019 (Why so short?)

Adam Symson will assume the role as President & CEO of Scripps, on August 8th. Richard Boehne will remain Chairman of the Lighthouse.

Why would they say that they're seeking a waiver, when in many cases a failed waiver request on the paperwork, would already been made. That I don't understand. The current rules wouldn't allow common ownership for WFXU & WCTV because both station's contours overlap. Are they're banking on Pai to change the duopoly rules so they won't have to file for a failed waiver? That alone would be very gutsy. They should've attached the waiver request in the paperwork anyway, and not play the waiting change. Because a change may not even happen.
-
If it was a failed station waiver involved, they would've stated it on the paperwork.

New M&A for Gray. Gray is buying Budd Broadcasting's WFXU and WUFX-LP for $600K. No telling what they're going to use it for.

Another approval. And I missed this one. On May 26, the FCC greenlighted this deal. The deal hasn't been closed but should that occur, WDKA & KBSI will be commonly-owned. -
McGinnis is filling in for Schwarz tonight. This is my first time seeing him on the night side.
