  1. WTSP 1994 promo for the switch to CBS programming: At the beginning of November, WTSP was airing CBS This Morning and GMA had moved to WFTS. IIRC, primetime programming and network news did not make the switch until 12/12/94. I can only imagine how confused viewers were.
  2. I'm not sure what this is, but it has something to do with WTSP and a tie-in with ABC's Saturday night campaign in 1990:
  3. I knew I remembered print ads from WXFL with the "Time Well Spent" slogan and that image of the house at the end of the promo. Believe that slogan was a dig at WTSP's hourlong 6 o'clock news experiment from 1986-87. By 1988, 'XFL had largely passed WTSP at 6 o'clock but the 11 o'clock race was still competitive into 1989. Also probably a dig at WTVT and their hourlong 6 o'clock newscast.
  4. So it sounds like KTVX used the "WCCO 1978 News Theme" but it's not listed in the NMSA. I think it was misidentified as the "WCCO 1983" theme:
  5. WXFL, Tampa, 1988 promo spot and news teaser:
  6. WSYX meteorologist Rachael Penton is leaving the station, as she announced tonight. She said she and her husband are "going back home" to central Louisiana. She's been with WSYX since 2017. She was a standout. Good luck to her.
  7. I have no idea what music WSYX was using in that 1995-98 period but I know I heard "ABC Affiliate News" package by Score Productions at some point on WSYX.
  8. WEAR 3 "Eyewitness News" Brief 1980 with the "Clearly Yours" jingle at the end:
  9. So it looks like KMTV changed from "News 3" to "NewsCenter 3" in 1979 but I was not expecting an updated version of their 1977 theme. Guessing that "Tuesday A" debuted at the very end of '79. Would love to see more of that KMTV "dream team" Anybody know what happened to John McDonald after KMTV? Looks like he was gone by the end of 1980.
  10. That's so awesome you found that. I thought I had found all the Tampa Bay TV nostalgia I could find. For some additional WFLA info, it looks like they started using "Part of Your Life" in 1977 since that's the first appearance of the slogan I could find in the newspapers. I also wonder if there may have been a different theme used between 1979 and 1981 since that slogan disappeared in favor of "Nobody does it better!".
  11. WTSP 11:00 news clip from January 2001. Pretty interesting as this was when Tampa was hosting the Super Bowl. WTSP was badly in need of an overhaul at this point. In April, they debuted a new set and graphics. There was a promo from early 2001 I wish I could find where they highlighted the upgrades.
  12. The Tampa Bay market has had some really impressive custom news music over the decades. They weren't afraid to spend the dough instead of utilizing syndicated packages. It is kind of surprising that "Hello News" or some of the other iconic themes like CHL (that we know of-looking at you WLCY) weren't used in the Tampa market.
  13. WTAE with "Hello News" from Jan. 1, 1982:

    In Memoriam

Former WTSP sports anchor/reporter Jerry Johnson has passed away. Johnson was a fixture at the station from 1982-2001. He also was an author. He is remembered for his enthusiastic delivery. https://www.wtsp.com/article/entertainment/television/former-10news-sports-anchor-jerry-johnson-dies/67-02a63d90-2e29-4916-acd4-ec80ab31c446
  15. Mid America's Leading News Station! WOWT from 1986 with a pretty epic open. The music must have debuted in the early '80s based on the John McCaa news clip
  16. Sounds like WAVE used "Signature News" by Telesound!
  17. KMTV from 1980. Anybody know what happened to John McDonald after KMTV? At this point, Dale Hansen and Dick Fletcher had left for greener pastures.
  18. Long time 10TV reporter Maureen Kocot quietly retired. They used to have such a strong bench of reporters. I had a feeling after they renovated their studios a few years ago that they were preparing the station for a sale.
  19. Was KRON always considered the also-ran of the market? From clips on YT, it looks like they pulled off a valiant effort in the early-mid '80s.
  20. A better fit for him, honestly.
  21. Yes, that is Dave Kaylor. One of his co-anchors was Oprah in Nashville.
  22. I read an article about Giant Octopus and the founder said she did the graphics for WFLA-her first job. I'm assuming this one. That skyline graphic behind Bob and Irene-never could figure out what was going on besides the skyline. Is that a mushroom cloud? LOL
