    In Memoriam

Former WTSP sports anchor/reporter Jerry Johnson has passed away. Johnson was a fixture at the station from 1982-2001. He also was an author. He is remembered for his enthusiastic delivery. https://www.wtsp.com/article/entertainment/television/former-10news-sports-anchor-jerry-johnson-dies/67-02a63d90-2e29-4916-acd4-ec80ab31c446
  2. Mid America's Leading News Station! WOWT from 1986 with a pretty epic open. The music must have debuted in the early '80s based on the John McCaa news clip
  3. Sounds like WAVE used "Signature News" by Telesound!
  4. KMTV from 1980. Anybody know what happened to John McDonald after KMTV? At this point, Dale Hansen and Dick Fletcher had left for greener pastures.
  5. Long time 10TV reporter Maureen Kocot quietly retired. They used to have such a strong bench of reporters. I had a feeling after they renovated their studios a few years ago that they were preparing the station for a sale.
  6. Was KRON always considered the also-ran of the market? From clips on YT, it looks like they pulled off a valiant effort in the early-mid '80s.
  7. A better fit for him, honestly.
  8. WBNS mid 80's montage:
  9. Yes, that is Dave Kaylor. One of his co-anchors was Oprah in Nashville.
  10. I read an article about Giant Octopus and the founder said she did the graphics for WFLA-her first job. I'm assuming this one. That skyline graphic behind Bob and Irene-never could figure out what was going on besides the skyline. Is that a mushroom cloud? LOL
  11. WFLA from 1991, with Barbara Callahan and Bill Ratliff at the helm of the noon report:
  12. A snippet of "Live at 5" from WFLA in 1997 with Bob Hite and Gayle Sierens:
  13. This is the WSYX reporter that is featured toward the end of the WBNS blooper tape!
  14. WBNS bloopers from the '80s/early '90s:
  15. WTSP GM Mike Rodriguez is out the door in Tampa after a short tenure. http://www.tampabay.com/business/general-manager-mike-rodriguez-is-latest-to-leave-wtsp-20190503/
  16. Did WTAE ever manage to pass KDKA in the Pittsburgh ratings war?
  17. Al drove a blue two door 1973 Chevy Impala which he transported the painting in
  18. Can't resist posting Tampa Bay material such as this 1991 WFLA promo for their Gulf War coverage:
  19. KWWL 1979 featuring a weather forecast from meteorologist Jym Ganahl, before he went to Columbus:
  20. WCMH did a decent tribute to it's 70th anniversary at 11:00 tonight. Many of the news clips came from YT, but they had some others I hadn't seen. Sounds like "WMAQ 1974 News Theme" was used during the WLWC days. Didn't really have any tributes from former anchors. They did interview longtime current employees. No mention of Jym Ganahl or Cabot. Also, only a brief clip of Mike Jackson. Anybody know if he's coming back after his stroke? Is Doug Adair still alive? Colleen made a comment to Mark saying "you would have loved him".
  21. Here in Columbus, WCMH is planning to celebrate it's 70th anniversary all day Wednesday, with vintage clips during all the newscasts. Really surprised to see WCMH going all out on this one, apparently, in light of the cuts suffered recently.
  22. Looks like WOI's Rick Taylor was the same Rick Taylor at WLWT from 1980-83 Great find!!
  23. Rare promo from WTSP's "NewsCenter 10" era. Would love to find more! After I posted, I found this gem Dec. 1991 with a "NewsCenter 10" intro:
  24. Omaha is quickly becoming one of my favorite TV markets!!
  25. I wonder if KMTV picked up "Tuesday A" when they changed from "News 3" to "NewsCenter 3" in 1979? That was one helluva news team: Chuck Roberts, Dale Hanson, Dick Fletcher. I don't know much about John McDonald-wonder where he went after KMTV?
