  1. I dont want to start bashing Ch5. Creatively it feels off. Seems like when they start using the NBC mandate graphics it just went off a cliff. I think about the themes used by WNBC and KNBC just how they seem a bit more "peppy-er" than WMAQ. I've never been a fan of the announcer or the locked down cameras. Especially when you look back to 90s and how "Big" that station felt. NBC in my opinion has alway been at the very top when it comes to news as far as production, sets, lighting, graphics etc. And you can see that continue at the affiliate level in NY, LA Miami Boston and then you look at WMAQ its not there. I cant chalk it all of space either. WNBC had that tiny set for few years and it looked great. Now WMAQ has all these screens and the beauty shots of the city looks awful. A prime example its the image used for temporary set. I cant imagine KNBC or WNBC doing anything like that. Especially when you think they are broadcasting from a huge a tower with an NBC Peacock proudly displayed (yes I know they dont own the building). Just tired of such a massive creative step down from the #1 station (WLS) to Ch5. Some of the current crop of anchors dont have the big city gravitas. Glad they bought Stefan Holt back he learned well from his father. Because the other male anchors dont have the "Bill Curtis anchor presence". They hardly compare to Dick Johnson, Warner Saunders, etc. Currently a very very weak anchor team in my opinion. Most are fine as reporter but they are basically telepropter readers and thats about it. The weakness shows when there is a major story.
  2. Well if it only took 2 weeks. I wouldnt expect any thing spectacular. A new desk is likely. But for the most parts the big screens will probably be where they are. They probably just installed some columns and panels to cover the places around the screens and thats about it. Because those pieces could have already started to be fabricated well before. Basically there was actually no set there any more. It was just a desk and several huge screens. And because the space is so cramped we will rarely see any wide shots anyway. NBC no longer seems to want to spend money on any major changes at NBC Tower. WMAQ in my opinion always feels "off" creatively when you compare it to the other NBC O&O's. It doesnt feel as "big-market" at is should. It hasnt felt that way in years. From the theme music choice. The cheap "bouncing" Michigan Ave camera view behind the anchors. Some their dubious anchor choices. I could go on...but I dont have much hope in anything impressive happening in 2 weeks. And as was said they certainly didnt take over one of the large production studios. So anything is better than the spare looking space they were using, but somehow Im sure WMAQ will make it look cheap.
  3. Sounds like it. I think thats the point as well. Alternative fact on CTV's part. Seems like CTV/Bell is keen on covering their rears. Kinda hard to make a respected journalist look bad when they are against a big money grabbing corporation.
  4. Its just gets better https://twitter.com/SimonOstler/status/1560638457629868032
  5. The Lisa LaFlamme firing saga continues now CTV is "launching an investigation"
  6. I wonder if any of the other Network anchors are looking vulnerable since Lisa is a free agent. I would imagine that GLOBAL might want to bolster their news product. I cant see Lisa ever dealing with Bell/CTV ever again. Bell/CTV did ruin CHUM back in the day, ruining literally every channel they touched. PLus how they ripped the heart out of CP24/CItyNews. That was messy and sad. But I just wonder if Rogers is looking hard at her. You know they want to build up Citytv into a true national operation. It would be massive step down for Lisa, but a huge get for City. But Citytv has been a disaster for a while now in Rogers hands. Especially their news operation. Its totally not the same anymore. Too bad that they cant re-work the originally CityNews ethos and style for a new era. Not a fan of what they're doing now. Late 80-90s were defo City's strongest creative period. I wonder what a well designed City-style National newscast would look like.
  7. CTV - Lisa LaFLamme is out at CTV. Massive news at CTV as the lead female anchor's contract was not renewed. Sounds like CTV didnt want to pay to keep their main anchor and the let her go! WOW! And they framed it as her leaving. Not that they let her go because they didnt want to pay or something like that. I wonder where she will go. This sounds messy exit WOW!! https://twitter.com/LisaLaFlamme_/status...kJXGMmxV6Q https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/lisa-lafla...-1.6027895 List was one of the female news anchors in Canada which now introduces a man to the main big network anchor chairs. From the Toronto Star Quote:Long-time news anchor and journalist Lisa LaFlamme is speaking out after what she called a “sudden” decision by Bell Media to end her contract with CTV National News. “On June 29, I was informed that Bell Media made a ‘business decision’ to end my contract, bringing to a sudden close my long career with CTV News,” said LaFlamme in a video posted on social media Monday afternoon. “Recognizing changing viewer habits, CTV recently advised LaFlamme that it had made the business decision to move its acclaimed news show, CTV NATIONAL NEWS, and the role of its Chief News Anchor in a different direction,” reads a press release from Bell Media. LaFlamme covered some of the most important stories during her tenure with the company, including the war in Afghanistan, federal elections, natural disasters, the global pandemic and most recently the papal visit in Canada. LaFlamme said she is leaving in a manner “that is not my choice.” This is a developing story. More to come. THey quickly replaced her with Omar Sachendina as the Chief Correspondent. WHOA! https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/omar-sache...-1.6027906 I wonder if this will be City News oppourtunity to grab her and building a national news cast around her. She helmed CTV National News in the #1 for years. So Citytv and Rogers might be licking their chops to grab her.
  8. I've always found WGN's storm coverage to be abysmal. They have all those meterologists and they do such a poor job. Even when they are covering it. I find it really lacking in so many ways. Half the time it was just the warning boxes on the screen and nothing. You couldnt see the roads, the cities or even where the storm was. They arent very good for actual storm coverage considering they have one of the largest weather teams in the City, its like they have no plan on how to cover it. Especially when you compare it to other cities that are doing storm coverage in other markets it find it appalling.
  9. She seemed nice. But I wasnt a fan of her anchoring style. She, like many of the new anchors at NBC5 dont have gravitas. And there is a strange over enunciation to each word that I find grating. Not a fan of Patrick Fazio. He seems nice. There is something light and breezy and but not serious about the way he presents. I'll take a Bill Kurtis or Carol Marin style any day.
  10. Feder is now reporting the new WBBM Set will debut next month sometime. http://www.robertfeder.com/2017/08/25/robservations-bears-radio-rights-grabs/
