  1.

To go with WBBH's "take" of Look F, sister station WZVN got an actually not too bad version of KABC's old/KGO's graphics. It's clear that Fort Myers, besides the Fox station, is a market full of knock-offs.

That's not a knock-off. WZVN bought this package syndicated from Hothaus, and, as I posted in another thread, WBBH is using Look F from Artworks not their own take. If anything it was WINK that was using the Look F knock-off.

  2. and let it began for the soon to be gone WVMH stations.

    WBOY is now WVAlways.com

    WOWK is now TriStateUpdate.com.

    WTRF is now YourOhioValley.com.

    WVNS is now WeAreWVProud.com.

What is WKBN going to become!?

  3. KCRA has been using Random New cuts of strive from FUZEARTZ lately. its been very Wierd for KCRA to have.

I have confirmation from Brian Reidinger, co-owner of inthegroovemusic, that Fuze Artz does not own inthegroovemusic nor did they create Strive. Strive is a product of ITG and is informally represented by Fuze Artz.

  4. There really isn't a good reason to get a new graphics package other than this one being three years old. It's three years old but some stations haven't had it that long (WKBW), and it will be "new" in the ex-Journal markets (where WTMJ has had the Journal package for nearly seven years with no updates) once it's ready for them. The older Scripps stations have invested potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in duratrans, vehicle wraps, signage, etc. that all reflect the current look, it'd be stupid to throw that all out for no real reason.

I've heard that Scripps is quite happy with this look and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't be surprised to see it updated here and there, but I think the core orange/white/blue boxy look will be around for years to come.

So why are we going to screw the former Journal stations whom have invested "invested potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in duratrans, vehicle wraps, signage, etc."? Why not leave everything status quo until a new package is needed group-wide?

  5. I wish that Scripps had taken the time and at least designed a new package for all of its stations, new and old, to use. The current one is years old now, so it just annoying to see them give their new stations a package that's already 3 years old and that they will use for presumably at least 3 more.

It's frustrating too that WTVF will be losing Impact V.6 and their really nice package.

TEGNA announced that they have sold their McLean, VA HQ to the Tamares Group for $270m. As part of the sale, they will remain in the building for the next 18 months while they search for a new home for their business. TEGNA's corporate cousin, Gannett however, will lease back the space from Tamares for the print operations on a long term basis.

Could they move to Cleveland or Denver? I'd say Dallas, but they sold off the Belo tower.

I don't know if this still counts as the Gannett/Tegna thread, but the company had a morning show strategy meeting in Texas this month to try to "re-invent" the morning shows at Tegna stations, I've heard, focusing on KHOU, WFAA and KVUE first. I imagine we'll see whatever they came up with in a few months.

Tribune tried this with Eye Opener. It's moronic!

  8.

There's another thing that hit me. Upon the split of Gannett's broadcasting arm into Tegna, will the stations' websites be altered in any way aside from changing from "A Gannett Company" to "A Tegna Company" at some point within a year from then?

That's it! Because the graphics package is pretty fresh still, neither that nor the web design will change for a few years. I suspect that the stations will continue the partnership with USA Today, as well.
