  1. That is true. Though, I'd argue it never was.
  2. The difference is that KCNC doesn't have a master control at the station and the assignment desk only works for 1 station. Trying to cover news for 2 stations and hub master control for multiple stations, while Perry takes any profit from KDVR|KWGN, KXRM|KXTU, and KREX|KFQX and shovels it into the DOA NewsNation while you're not able to mean the minimum cost of living would piss anyone off. Per the KDVR article: And ironically, per another article from KDVR - https://kdvr.com/news/local/have-things-become-more-expensive-in-denver/ :
  3. I suspect that the L3s and the flat elements were created by the inhouse team and the tired 3D stuff (which isn't tired because it's 3D, but because it brings nothing new to the table), is probably from something like videohive. No one said that Apollo was going to invest significant resources in a hub. They are a PE Firm, intent on strip-mining as many assets as possible, local stations included.
  4. I disagree with him.
  5. This has more to do with the latter and with the direction that studios are viewing the streaming landscape.
  6. And it's used at KKTV as well. So, This is the Place is used across the whole state. Also it will soon be the package KDVR has used the longest. Lastly, KCNC and KUSA are the only stations in Colorado not using a Stephen Arnold Music package.
  7. Wait. Are you saying that the mockups that you find on this forum aren't worthy of cable news!?
  8. Yep. The viewers don't matter.
  9. In the short of it, they want their balance sheets to show lower operating costs than revenue so it boosts interest from perspective buyers. This is what Meredith did before they sold to Gray. If debt equity is high, this other method will be the most attractive things to Wall Street. You're pointing out the single largest problem with having large-scale station ownership. They have no connection to the community they serve or local values. They only care about finances. You are right that these are part of the value of the station images with the public, but the finances are far abstracted from that. No one is looking or cares. It's all about the balance sheet at the end of the day.
  10. Scripps is prepping a sale.
  11. Exactly. Well, as you know in technology, acronyms have multiple meanings. Subscription Streaming Service in this context. FAST is Free Ad-supported Streaming Television.
  12. Cable is linear... Do you mean Broadcast vs Cable? You compare Linear to OTT. You compare FAST to SSS.
  13. Honestly, I won't be surprised and will laugh hysterically when this has consistently better ratings than News Nation.
  14. GrayOne is the package going forward. No options. All stations will eventually use it.
  15. This is absolutely awful. First, the fact that they are using red tends to indicate Breaking News, which is exactly what Alert insinuates. This is why First Alert Weather has always struck me as bad branding for weather too. You're going to burn out your audience if all news product is branded as "First Alert" instead prioritizing the content. Ultimately, having clear brand and design language is really needed to inform viewers and boost ratings... This won't do it.
  16. First of all, being a politician should bar you from owning any journalism entity. Journalists investigate public officials and hold them to account of the public interest. Republican or Democrat, politicians shouldn't invest in those that hold them accountable. It's a conflict of interest. However, not all politician is the same. Don't paint with a broad brush. Those who follow the letter of law have no issue being held to account. It is those that are vehemently opposed to accountability that are the ones that are abusing our institutions and laws that are here to protect us. If organizations like Sinclair Broadcast Group and Bill Fielder (a party politician directly), are openly interested in curtailing the accountability that journalism is intended to enforce, then you can easily tell who is on the right and wrong side of the people and easily tell for which political parties they support. Period.
  17. One of the individuals labeled as a "Senior Reporter" has an anchor title.
  18. If they're going to standardize, might it be the music too, except for the open?
  19. You want to have a main Voice actor that you can use across opens, topicals, POPs, and various campaigns. You don't use your main voice for just one thing, like opens.
  20. Steve is such a flat VO. Can't emote at all.
  21. Just want to point out that they are using the NBC Nightly News font that they get access to as an affiliate.
  22. KCNC uses just one cut.
  23. About time. That last thing was clunky.
  24. And even their previous set was only about 6 years old. They keep replacing sets like that is going to improve ratings. Honestly, Byron Grandy needs to be fired. He and Joan Barrett haven't a clue what they are doing.
  25. This is what you would expect for a market of this size. This isn't what you'd expect for Denver... Yet that is exactly what we got and it looks like crap.
