  1. Not that this is specifically germane to this subject, but I expect The Weather Channel to be sold too. Allen has not invested in a pivot strategy for them. Hyper-targeting would keep the platform viable.
  2. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/media/republican-state-attorneys-general-join-suit-stop-nexstar-tegna-merger-rcna343016 Even though this doesn't do a damn thing except delay the inevitable. It's not a solution. Fuck the Ohio AG for being so transparent.
  3. Failing station waiver to keep them? Idk.
  4. And that comes with a pay cut.
  5. Honestly, with all of the new-to-air content these days, who is watching syndicated reruns?
  6. Was this package built in-house?
  7. Maybe I'm not seeing this, but how are these package L3s any different from the Troika package?
  8. Would this be a nail in the coffin for the 10/11PM newscast entirely?
  9. I called this play out earlier. Nexstar won't play ethically, of course.
  10. How is Scott a tool? Feel free to DM me if you want to discuss privately. I just haven't found that to be the case. From Harry's Biography: "Prior to launching TVNewsCheck in January 2006, Harry worked for more than 25 years as a reporter and editor for B&C (formerly Broadcasting). As the magazine’s top editor from 1997 to 2004, Harry moved the magazine from Washington to New York City and shifted its focus from law and regulation to programming and business". Harry is more concerned with profit. Public interest be damn.
  11. I swear they just fired everyone, from the GM to the Engineers and the entire IT team. The website hasn't been updated since the deal closed. It's not even redirecting to http://wishtv.com. WRTV is now just a holding channel and network assets.
  12. Rey Rodriguez designs everything. It will all be unified under a suite of packages designed by him and a SAM package because there is no independence now. Although if Nexstar has their way, all stations will unaffiliate from Network and solely run NewsNation I suppose be know similarly to CBS News stations (e.g., NewsNation Denver, NewsNation Sacramento, NewsNation Jacksonville, etc.). TEGNA Design Tank will be shut down to streamline things. Why invest in anything except the bare minimum while your business model dies and you can eek out more profits? Who cares about public interest mandates anyway? This is Vulture Capitalism.
  13. The graphics will def be dropped though.
  14. Nope! I don't think Standard General is going to be acquiring many more stations.
  15. No. Nexstar isn't in the business of the public interest. Streaming doesn't pad the bottom line. While Nexstar could sell ads specifically for streaming, I suppose they calculated that it was more profitable to pump up the retransmission contracts. They don't care about "localism" at all. It's all bullshit. No indication yet. It's called lying. All corporations are good at it.
  16. They are moving quickly so that the merger can't be unwound. It's disgusting.
  17. For example, they could have spun off WATN to Mission, Cunningham or White Knight instead of TEGNA.
  18. Does anyone besides me find it ironic that Nexstar went to the effort to spin off stations when it acquired Tribune, but is acquiring those stations again and won't be spinning them off again? To me that's essentially an indication that any stations they say that they will spin off is performative at best. In the legal sense, under the same essential leadership, Nexstar's current actions don't align with previous actions, indicating that they do intent to reduce the amount of journalistic voices. Also, the pretext that this will help them fend off big-tech is an indication that Nexstar doesn't, in fact, know how to use technology.
  19. So They merged the CBSN stream for across 2 markets. Honestly, I would expand the coverage of CBS News Los Angeles to cover San Diego and call it CBS News SOCAL.
  20. Yes. All on one website. 9News.com will redirect to KDVR.com. Unified branding and one slogan too. The stations will all look and feel the same. WTHR will be with Mission. At this point, I think Hearst will either be one of the last mid-size groups standing or will exit the business entirely selling to Sinclair.
  21. They will "divest" to Mission, retaining 95% of the profits. Even with divestitures, that's still 80% coverage, in flagrant violation, more than doubling the maximum coverage.
  22. The whole “three branches” thing is doing basically nothing here. The FCC and DOJ are both in the executive branch, and they just chose to waive the ownership cap and bless a merger that reaches the overwhelming majority of U.S. households. Courts almost never blow up a deal like this ab initio; at best they force targeted divestitures in a few conflicted markets, which still leaves one giant broadcaster with massive leverage. Calling that “lawful” mostly means the people in charge of enforcing the law decided not to use the tools Congress gave them under the Clayton Act and the media ownership rules. And yeah, that’s before you even get into party politics. When the president’s party leadership is aligned with the same deregulatory agenda, there’s zero internal pressure to challenge this stuff, so the “checks and balances” are basically a formality while media power gets concentrated.
  23. You highlighted what I've been shouting from rooftop for years.
  24. With ParamountSkydance merging with WBD and this Executive branch without any regard for the law or mass consolidation, maybe PSWBD will just buy Nexstar outright. CBS and WB would effectively own CW again.
  25. Congress will not be doing that. Republicans do not have the numbers to pass legislation. I hope the Democrats hall Perry Sook, Carr and Bondi in front of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee and House Energy and Commerce Committee to grill these motherfuckers.
