  1. I would guess they shot it in the secondary debate/performance studio right next door to the Windy City Live studio. I know for a fact that it's large enough, and the width of the room looks about right in the promo.
  2. GMA is a program that spent the first half of its entire existence being produced by the entertainment division of the network, and enjoyed it's best ratings during that period. Personally, I don't like how fluffy it's gotten, but a news-heavy focus isn't necessary for morning television. CBS gives that option, and I do check them out from time to time. I'm not a Today fan, but I'll also admit that they're beginning to put on a more solid broadcast. My main viewership still lies with WGN Morning News, but I was raised on Charlie and Diane, and still flip over to ABC very often. As always, if you don't like it, don't watch, but stating the obvious doesn't help the matter or change anyone else's minds. Competition is good, and varied options across the morning landscape are great.
  3. It's at least the 2nd year, but it might be the 3rd. One or two of them will stay in LA for the 'Dancing with the Stars'cast announcement tomorrow, instead of flying the whole cast to NYC.
  4. They brought back that theme for commercial bumpers a few months back.
  5. Not televised. Ravi was reporting from the show in full tux all evening, and some video from the event was used when Kathy announced the winners of raffle prizes, but the event did not air. However, Mark give a bit of a hit that some special guests from the station might drop in during the show tomorrow night, and the 3 WCL hosts are also going to have something air during the special.
  6. Ron, Kathy and Mark emceed the charity event tonight, but on Magers made it back to 190 North for the late news.
  7. Roz has been added to the auto show telecast.
  8. Kudos to the station for taking care of the issue quickly and doing their best to level the playing field prior to the debate. Other bosses in local and national news should act like this more often.
  9. That the local segments of 'The List' are being canceled, making the show an entirely national production with everything coming out of Phoenix. Other rumblings say the the whole program is being canned, but Scripps denies any notion. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/scripps-eliminating-local-segment-on-the-list/141361
  10. Well, Cheryl has the experience from doing it at channel 5, JR and Jerry are noted techies, and Giangreco is a gearhead, so the line-up assembled sure makes sense. On another topic, I cannot remember the last time ABC 7 put out a one-time promo to air during a special event. According to Tracy Butler, this spot for the morning show will air on Oscar night. It is no surprise, though, that they're pumping in more funds to promote the "new" team.
  11. NBC 5's coverage was typically 6-7 people (full weather staff plus traffic and entertainment reporters), with each taking maybe one segment. That seemed like too many to me. WGN, on the other hand, uses the host of 'Motorweek' alongside someone from the station (Val Warner and later Frank Holland), with maybe 2 or 3 others on the showroom floor. So much of these specials are pre-taped, that 4 hosts SHOULD suffice.
  12. I was hoping someone would guess 'ABC 7 Eyewitness News at 8PM on 87.7 MeTV FM'.
  13. I'm going to leave this here without any context just to freak you all out.
  14. A two-night team would work for ABC, whereas I think it's a bit of an issue for CBS, but I'll get to that in a moment. Muir's weekend role had been more prominent than just about any of his predecessors, which made him a de facto #2 or #3 at the network (a position always teetering back and forth between him and George behind Diane), much like George was during the Gibson-led era with Diane. Building up David's profile made his ascension to the weekday desk less surprising; we figured he'd be promoted, but we weren't totally sure how. Declaring a sole weekend anchor could give some the impression that they're trying to build another personality into the top-tier anchor. Say what you will about the reporting core at ABC, the depth they have in anchor personnel is pretty impressive and versatile. As for CBS, they could stand to build up another anchor, even if not for the long-term. Jim Axelrod's okay, but I have thought on many occasions that Jeff Glor could easily be developed like Muir was across town.
  15. Any weekday morning consists of Tanja, Jessica, and/or Diane in the field, with the latter being Roz's back-up, though she has also appears any day at any time. That was likely the basis of her part-time arrangement. I think Jade on weekend mornings is a lock, but don't be surprised to she her anywhere on the schedule.
  16. Terrell worked mornings. In the final months before the promotion, he was frequently in the newsroom or the studio doing reports, almost in a Cheryl Burton kind of role.
  17. I think Katie could do better on The View than her last 2 TV roles, primarily due to the ensemble format. As a solo act, her personality becomes overwhelming to many. There's no way she'd be as successful as when she was on Today, but that was a case of lightning striking a bottle twice (or whatever that crappy analogy says). That kind of team and subsequent chemistry may never be recreated, and certainly not on this show.
  18. Effective yesterday, Diane Pathieu has been promoted to full-time reporter, pretty much filling the void left when Terrell hit the desk in January. To take the part-time role is newcomer Jade Hernandez, whose career has taken her from Topeka (KTKA) to KC (KSHB), San Fran (KTVU), and most recently Atlanta (WSB). http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/news/7167-abc-7-promotes-diane-pathieu-to-full-time-reporter-brings-on-jade-hernandez-as-part-time-reporter Here's a clip of Hernandez from her time at KTVU... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUAVao4y-l0
  19. I watched some of GDC the other day, and most of the 9 o'clock news another night, and I have to admit, both products have come a long way...far more watchable than even just a year ago. The reporting core still sucks, though.
  20. It was gone by the time I first saw it live either late Monday or this morning.
  21. It is a liitle harder to read, but otherwise I like it.
  22. I thinks it's far better than what they had. It gives me the impression of being more practical than its predecessor. And though it takes some inspiration from KNBC's weather center, I like the overall look of WMAQ's better.
  23. Yeah, 5 and 10 will differ, and it'll be switched the next night.
