  1. Ladies and germs, might I suggest we not do play-by-play of our local stations, checking in to say that nothing has changed? All signs, at this time, are pointing to a package launch closer to, if not during or even after November. From now on, let us know when you see something legitimately new. Otherwise, we might just have to locked up this thread, for a bit.
  2. Are you sure this wasn't the local update during NBC News Daily?
  3. And Chris Tye now co-anchors Sunday nights.
  4. I've watched all 30 seasons, but won't be following it to D+. If the previous hosts hadn't been replaced, I might sign up, just for season 31. As someone who doesn't have his head under a rocked, I'd always be familiar with all but 1 or 2 cast members, every season, even if only by basic name recognition. This season's crop features 5(!) individuals who I've NEVER heard of. If my awareness is any barometer, this year's cast is a step down. Anyway...
  5. Yeah, I'm totally taking this as Bannon giving up the 11, and having the weekenders split the week. Hell, why not recast the whole 11am as a newsroom-anchored vehicle for Brad Edwards, of Streaming with Brad fame?
  6. I'm sure it'll be just a temporary branding. New York and Chicago are sticking with the CBS 2 (News) names for their 9am entries, and we know that won't last.
  7. Someone asked if Cuomo's left-wing CNN material is designed to balance out the Shine influence. I believe it's worse and more pathetic than that. Between Cuomo's attempted comeback story and Abrams' constant bitching about the state of (cable) news, they seem to be setting up not an "Us v. Them" political bent, but an "Us v. The World" attitude, where they think the viewer will see them as a sympathetic underdog. I can't even make fun of how lame and sad that is, because they're even sucking at playing the victim.
  8. Sounds like Susan stays on as co-anchor. https://tvnewscheck.com/journalism/article/christina-pascucci-joins-kttv-as-weekend-evening-anchor/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  9. THAT'S how you do vocals in a new package...not in every cut. As for the graphics, I love everything except for that damn giant bug box, but I'm not surprised by it. The rest is stunning.
  10. So, the first TV listings of the new fall season are out, and there are a few notable changes on the WGN schedule. Despite the show wrapping production, I'm shocked that a rerun slate of Maury isn't included in the afternoon block. Instead, Lauren Lake's Paternity Court (yikes) slots in at 2pm. The biggest surprise, though, might come at 3pm, as Friends reruns return to weekday, daylight hours for the first time in forever. Personally, that programming decision feels like a placeholder move, but what do I know?
  11. KDKA. Is. Not. Special. Whenever a new group-wide package debuts, they'll get the same thing as everyone else, and they'll be better off, for it. Besides, while I understand the civic pride, the black and gold look they have is downright unsightly for any coverage not pertaining to the Pens, Pirates, or Steelers.
  12. I'll go so far as to say it looks beyond bad. So many Scripps stations already look so damn bland. This new lighting just adds to the sterile, soulless vibe.
  13. The weekend anchor team was chatting with tonight's sports anchor, and they noted that the just-concluded 10pm newscast is their final one on the KCAL set. A neglected relic of the late 2000s, they're saying it's finally getting replaced.
  14. FOR THE RECORD... 'World News' returned to 'World News Tonight' BETWEEN permanent anchors. Sawyer retired from 'World News' on a Friday, the weekend shows maintained status quo, it had a generic 'World News Tonight' open on Labor Day Monday, and he debuted on Tuesday, with his name on the program. Anyway...
  15. [Station ditches talent opens] "Booooooo, they suck! No sense of tradition!" [Station updates talent opens] "Booooooo, not good enough! These are crap!" This new open is absolutely fine. The fact that they're using existing shots makes keeping talent opens a more viable option, in the future.
  16. Note, this is the first time in 20-plus years that the co-anchors aren't intro'd in the same shot, which is surely a distancing measure. That said, these exact same shots could be spliced into the new graphics. Assembling these opens should be a fairly simple cut & paste job.
  17. I'm not holding my breath about ANY of this being finalized, but let's slow that down, anyway. wcco the 4.mp4
  18. Ding ding ding. We have a winner. All this.
  19. I've moved all the set posts to the dedicated thread, so we're not carrying on two conversations at once.
  20. "I don't like something, so instead of just not tuning in, it shouldn't exist for anybody."
  21. The #1 station in the #1 market (their preferred moniker) has largely lagged behind its sister stations in rolling out new streaming options. KTRK, as an example, is now going live, in some form, until 10am. Others added up to 2 hours of daily streaming. Last I checked, WABC offers the fewest hours of weekday news of the O&O's, with the only known additions being at 6:30pm, and what, maybe 30 minutes after 7am? (Someone correct me on that.) Point being, there's totally room for growth, and only 4 meteorologists has already felt low for both the market and the fellow large-market O&O's. It's time.
  22. The rest of the O&O group, save for Raleigh and Fresno, have AT LEAST 5, if not 6.
  23. Or maybe, JUST MAYBE, they're finally adding a 5th meteorologist, even if she doesn't carrying a regular show assignment. Besides, as much as we love speculating, there's no reason to not take the chief at his word, for now.
