That is purely speculative. When the man says he's leaving on this own terms, why can't we take him at his word?
-
I love the show, but even I'll admit that this has to be the funniest thing the WGN Morning News has pulled off in years. Producer Jeff Hoover has some of the backstory in the video's description.

They're affectionately calling themselves the B-team, like the 4-6am crew. They were pretty good together.

I mean, they save $1250 across the 2 real phrases and my made up one. All 5 vowels are represented. It's the rules.- 3735 replies

As currently constructed, WNT doesn't need much to go to air. Muir hasn't appeared standing up in that studio for the better part of a decade, and wears jeans most nights. Jennings & Gibson moved around the studio more than David. Like local newscasters around the country, a modern, spacious studio might force him to put on nice pants.
-
Hoping that's the case, because I'm sure a few individuals would certainly feel slighted, if passed over.
-
Hmm, looks like they might not be considering internal candidates to replace Steve Sanders on the midday news, despite having at least 5 legitimate (male) options on their bench. https://nexstar.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/nexstar/job/IL-Chicago2501-W-Bradley-Place-WGN-TV/Anchor-Reporter_REQ-3239

The only network newscast (and the highest-rated one, at that), period, that is entirely 4x3 safe.
-
He surely will, but that's still unusual. Who did the sportscast on the 5-7 block tonight? They ran the standard (same) bumper last night, but again, with Dan in AZ, it's hard to tell what standard protocol is going to be. They don't do sports at 10, who knows if Lauren will ever do GN Sports. It's a little messy.
-
I'd guess a promo.
-
You've got 'Tom at Ten', now how about 'More at 4'?
-
The Evening News plays by its own rules. I've seen them OPEN the 4:30 and 6:30 portions with the talent. They seem to float around, if they're aired, at all.
-
Are they running the talent bumpers?
-
Not gonna lie, I feel like this should've been Jarrett and Josh, from the start, like their CLTV days. That way they can keep a quick sportscast at 10 with Dan, and he can put a damn tie back on.
-
Be sure to watch Eyewitness News at 10 with Cheryl & Scott.
-
And really, it's only 4 times for Dan, since he's off on Fridays. I don't like that, when Dan is off, Jarrett is moving to his seat on the right. It's almost like it's Dan's show, and Jarrett only gets to sit the the main chair when Roan is off. No reason they shouldn't have equal status.

Steve retiring has us feeling some kind of way. It's hard to put into words...
-
We won't know the plan, tonight, as David is anchoring from Iowa.
-
Most likely from one of their little flashcam setups. Perfectly acceptable for a solo anchor, but not co-anchors. With ABC News LIVE relaunching this evening, I would bet WNT will remain in the same spot as over the weekend.
-
Also of note, for the first time in the impeachment proceedings, George is not anchoring. Terry Moran is leading coverage this morning, even though George was on GMA this morning. I've always liked Terry in an anchor role.
-
Not necessarily. World News Now will be coming from the ABC News LIVE set for the next few weeks, and the anchors were ready with jokes.
