  1. When I saw the name and the face, I did some digging, and honestly, the only confirmation I got was a mention of both father and son on Mrs. Miller's business bio. It says he graduated from Purdue with a degree in meteorology, so i doubt he's an intern. If I were to guess, he's probably a weather producer. https://www.millerbroadcast.com/lisa-miller/ (last paragraph)
  2. I know, right? Maybe. Possibly. Such an odd arrangement.
  3. Just when you thought the era of nepotism in Chicago TV was simmering down, I just discovered that NBC 5 has hired a new, web-only (for now) meteorologist in the last several months. His name is Joey MILLER. Like father, like son. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/chicago-weather-snapshot-showers-storms_Chicago-508907222.html
  4. Nah, I'm thinking more around this time, when they pulled a 180 image-wise. I don't recall when their morning news began. That said, they weren't relevant in the morning realm until this pairing in the latter part of the decade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq2AE5n41N8
  5. Meanwhile, in this weird, alternate universe, WGN Morning News was a calm, sophisticated hour of serious news. And still, no one watched WBBM.
  6. A few months after the fact, but I know this is the first time I've seen the full expanse (and bottom) of the new video wall. I'm no expert, but it seems unnecessarily huge. Considering how they use it, does it have to be so tall and wide, or does it just come that way? The black on top and bottom makes it look almost temporary, disjointed from the rest of the set. lexisutter_58594286_408679286347627_6082097823950674866_n.mp4
  7. Just the updated logo on the scoreboard, that's also been returned to the top left corner of the screen, after awhile on the right.
  8. Nope, the 6pm show was an hour for most of its history, until Wheel of Fortune debuted at 6:30 several months later, but the anchor line-up was bring blown up by then, anyway.
  9. Are we sure that guy on the right isn't Dana Carvey?
  10. Okay, long post. Sure enough, the morning show pretty much blacked out the latter half of the 90's, though mainly because today was a tribute to Roz's 30th anniversary, alongside the program. Rahm Emanuel dedicated the day to her, the Chicago Theatre put her name on the marquee, her mother, husband & daughter surprised her, and Alan Krashesky was in-studio to present her with her Disney-issued 30-year award. https://abc7chicago.com/society/celebrating-30-years-of-abc7s-morning-show/5230765/ Mentioned on Windy City Live, Hosea Sanders' cancer is now in remission. This was posted today by one of WLS's graphics guys. Everything he's previously posted has seen the air, sooner or later. Again, you could draw some parallels to some of the sister stations, but it appears to be their own package. https://vimeo.com/328314550
  11. Despite her mention in Feder's article, all signs point to them ignoring Lauren Cohn's tenure, as none if the promos uploaded to their promotions account featured her time with Hosea (or more rare, with Alan). That said, she was in-studio on Hosea's last day, so I guess anything is possible. She's the afternoon news anchor on WLS-AM.
  12. Deborah Norville announced in a prerecorded message that she will be off 'Inside Edition' for awhile, recovering from thyroid cancer surgery. She shouldn't need any additional treatment. https://www.insideedition.com/inside-editions-deborah-norville-undergo-surgery-cancerous-thyroid-nodule-after-viewer-spotted-lump
  13. "Nexstar talked about a new digital publishing and software service that they were launching called Lakana. Nexstar was hoping that Lakana would help them capitalize on the growing demand in digital publishing services and the system would be used across all the Nexstar stations to post stories and information to the stations websites. [...] But now, sources tell FTVLive that after a number of problems, Nexstar is doing way with Lakana at most of their stations and switching over to Wordpress. The Tribune stations use a form of Wordpress and while looking at it on their sites, the Nexstar suits thought that was the route to go. Most of the Nexstar stations will be making the switch to Wordpress on their station's websites. It is a big undertaking, but Wordpress is used by millions of websites and seems to be much more stable than Lakana. Nexstar's KXAN has made the switch, you can check out the new look at their website. Nexstar is moving away from a company that they own and in this case it is a wise move making the switch to Wordpress."
  14. Quite the opposite. They trained very hard. Good for them!
  15. From stage to screen, radio to television, today is the 100th anniversary of the opening of the State & Lake Theatre. https://abc7chicago.com/society/state-lake-theater-home-of-abc-7-celebrates-100-years/5195875/
  16. List threads aren't allowed. A list within a normal discussion is fine.
  17. Actually, I think they were their own formal arrangements. This article says references Linda filling in that spring of 2002... https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2002-03-15-0203150284-story,amp.html Now, I don't know if Tracy returned and but didn't get the 10 back, but Linda was the late anchor in September, when other changes were made. Maybe they liked the Antonio-Linda duo, and a temporary deal was made permanent, but then I'd still call his first time with Tracy as a permanent team, as the original intention was probably for her to come back to it. https://www.broadcastingcable.com/.amp/news/wbbm-tv-shuffle-72973
  18. Okay, time for some fun on a Friday! Who here can list EVERY 10 o'clock anchor team on WBBM since Lester & Linda were demoted at the start of the century? Grab your pencils, get set, and GO! No cheating at the answers below. (I admittedly forgot 2 of these tenures.) https://www.robertfeder.com/2019/03/15/cbs-2s-revolving-door-takes-another-spin/ . . . , , , , . . . . , A look back at CBS 2’s ever-changing 10pm anchor lineup: Carol Marin (2000) David Kerley & Linda MacLennan (2000-01) David Kerley & Tracy Townsend (2001-02) Antonio Mora & Tracy Townsend (2002) Antonio Mora & Linda MacLennan (2002-03) Antonio Mora & Tracy Townsend (2003) Antonio Mora & Diann Burns (2003-07) Rob Johnson & Diann Burns (2007-08) Rob Johnson & Anne State (2008-09) Rob Johnson (2009-10) Rob Johnson & Kate Sullivan (2010-15) Rob Johnson & Irika Sargent (2015-19) Brad Edwards & Irika Sargent (2019)
  19. I've always thought of Bill as a kind of critic at large, as Jake Hamilton does most of the heavy lifting on press junkets and stuff.
  20. Honestly, I'm not sure where he fits in at any of the other 4 stations. With all due respect, Marissa could probably settle in nicely as a reporter/fill-in anchor somewhere, but Rob has too much built up to be just a reporter, and I don't know where an obvious (weekday) anchor role would be opening up anytime soon. ABC 7 is all locked up across the board, as is WGN. I maintain that FOX32 is in a holding pattern in the mornings, until they figure out what's going to happen at 9, but would they entertain the thought of Rob as 6-9am morning anchor (the only spot that seems up for grabs sooner rather than later). NBC5 might be the strongest contender, if they're interested. By my math, Dick Johnson is around 70, so who knows his long term plans, and ratings are showing weakness across the board on weekdays. Are they satisfied with Alex Maragos in the mornings, Patrick Fazio at 4, or even Rob Stafford at night? If they're lukewarm on any of those 3, things could be wide open for an outsider, as their internal male anchor bench is eternally thin.
  21. Actually, no. Jim and Mai have been broken up, with her going solo on Saturday nights, and him on Sundays. Really.
  22. Well, this is stupid. FTVLive had this this morning. Might this just be the beginning of a repeat of 2008 across the O&O's?
  23. What if 90% of soap fans translates to 1% of the population, and what if only half of those watch with regularity?
  24. Maybe a tryout, but since nothing came of it, he was just filling in. That was a thing back then, like local anchors going to New York to anchor the network weekend news.
  25. As someone that thoroughly enjoyed The Chew, the last months after Mario Batali's firing were rough. The show would've needed a little retooling and additional co-hosts.
