  1. They changed the news bug in the summer of 2013, updated with an updated 7 and the then-new ABC logo. That lasted for just a few months before they blew everything up with the reintroduction of Eyewitness News. I wouldn't be stunned if this is all temporary. They LOVE to roll stuff out incrementally.
  2. Damn, they're busy today. The new logo has debuted on the time/temp bug. The blue is still a little see-through, and the all-gray ABC has replaced the blue. Everything else, including the opens, remains the same.
  3. Since we're talking about it, might as well bring up some other changes. In the last week, the translucent logo during network programming has changed to a grayscale version of the updated logo, the call letter ID dropped the blue box to be just text last night (though it's back to normal today), and the new logo has also made its way onto the network promos. Those are generally minor, but this next one has me wondering. One of the station's graphic artists has posted some promos and stuff on Vimeo in recent months, reflecting the current on-air look, but a few weeks ago, he dropped these out there. Yes, the typical thinking says that if he's posting, that it's been rejected, though I find it interesting how it builds off the current look. The fact that it doesn't maintain Helvetica in some form also makes me doubt its future, as all signs point to the station using it in the future. It also features a previously-unheard of branding. It could be an upcoming segment, or its own program. I dropped him a line, but no word back, though I'm not surprised.
  4. New morning show promo with a very different look debuted tonight. They've departed from the standard graphics for the morning news before ("7 in the Morning," anyone?), but this one is definitely out there. I REALLY don't like this voiceover. She does work for the west coast O&O's, and that style just doesn't click east of the Mississippi.
  5. Go to 12:26 in that WBKB video for an awesome promo touting the efforts by the then-5 ABC O&O stations to improve such things as awareness of community issues and race relations.
  6. And you can add WBBM to the fold, too, but they haven't adjusted the lower thirds.
  7. Haven't seen a WGN sportscast in awhile, but it looks like Rich King is doing a little Spring Training coverage in his retirement.
  8. 7 billion people on Earth with thousands, if not millions of different names, and I'm still amused that a newscast can be fronted by Cheryl, Mark, Cheryl & Mark.
  9. Rafer confirms it. Curious to see what becomes of the Ponce/Bomke pair, as they're a superior anchor team compared to Schneider/Padilla from 6-9am.
  10. For what it's worth, FOX32 does have a job opening online for an anchor/reporter.
  11. From morning anchor to midday anchor, fill-in anchor demoted to field reporter, Roseanne Tellez finally got out of WBBM, before they could assign her to mopping floors. https://www.robertfeder.com/2019/02/18/robservations-amy-guth-host-daily-podcast-crains/
  12. You get on that.
  13. Since there's still a few minutes left on this Valentine's Day, enjoy these classics...
  14. His last retirement (from WLS) is already on YouTube, well how about Floyd Kalber's first, from WMAQ in 1976, just before his 5-year run as Today's news anchor.
  15. The summer of 1983 was a rough one for ABC anchors. Chicago legend Fahey Flynn died that summer, just weeks after World News Tonight anchor (and one time WLS/WBKB anchor/reporter) Frank Reynolds' passing. The same YouTube account that posted Flynn's memorials now has a look at Ted Koppel and Nightline's remembrance of Reynolds.
  16. Hey, let's see what legendary sportscaster Warner Wolf is up to in retirement...oh. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/sports/sportscaster-warner-wolf-arrested-allegedly-removing-word-plantation-sign-n969556
  17. 1985 WBBM retrospective, looking back at the famous Kennedy/Nixon debate that took place at their Chicago studios. The video is tagged to begin with a very unique take on the classic "I Love Chicago, Chicago My Home" signature, used at their special presentation open.
  18. WGN has proclaimed that CBS 2 "is on a rocket ship to 3rd place." This is brilliant.
  19. PBS Nova, Feb. 1992, takes a deep dive in the business of TV ratings...
  20. Good, now can they finally shut up about it?
  21. NBCSN refreshed their ticker, adding banners promptly upcoming programming on the right side. Gee, I wonder where they got that idea from?
  22. It appears that all the wood trim has been removed from the sides with the installation of the new video wall.
  23. Two new reporters. They'll never be heard from again. https://www.robertfeder.com/2019/01/21/robservations-barry-rozner-says-hes-ready-leave-score/
  24. The odd thing about it is that she essentially shadowed them the day before she began filling in.
  25. I only doubt the LED wall, as they just upgraded the "windows" last summer. The new screens were more upright, and didn't have a glare like the old ones. Here is a pic from that weekend, before they reinstalled the metal accents... Also, Spring Rubber is right. There is so little room in that newsroom for a temp set, their flash cam setup is virtually right behind the set wall. Compare that position to how the open newsroom set was laid out (which is in the same spot as they are now)...
